Do not rent from these con-artists. Their boats will leave you stranded on the lake for hours with no way of getting ahold of them to get help. Then take no responsibility for renting out faulty boats. If you like tinkering and fixing someone else's property and paying them while you do it than this place is for you.
We rented a pontoon for nearly $200 for the only option they had 10 hours. We thought that only having one option was a little strange but we showed up around 11 to get out on the water.
When we arrived we were told they'd give us number 13 because "the interior is in good shape." All of their rental boats are in horrific mechanical and cosmetic shape.
The "captains" chair was falling apart, one of the front loungers was held in place with drywall screws and there was a layer of algae/mold on the floor and seats.
Still we were ready to have a good time on the water so we headed out, after 45 minutes on the water the boat didn't shift into forward and then died completely. The piece of paper they gave us suggested we "send word to them" and in the same sentence acknowledge that you won't have cell reception. Maybe take the initiative guys and put a CB radio or long range walkie-talkie on your boats.
We were left drifting aimlessly in a remote part of the lake, the engine wouldn't even try to turn over. Luckily three out of the nine people on the boat are mechanics (not marine) so after taking apart the shifter, and the engine cover, with the only tool we had a pocket knife, and spending another 45 minutes we got the vessel to turn over and out of neutral.
Now that the boat was under its own power and not needing us to use the one emergency paddle that was provided anymore we were barely moving and the engine kept wanting to sputter out. We had to improvise a throttle control with a shoelace tried directly to the motor.
We made our way slowly back to the marina/dock and told them what had happened, they offered no empathy or apology for us having to work on their POS boat. We asked for a refund because we'd just spent over two stressful hours on the water. They stated they can't do refunds but they would eat the cost of fuel ($30) and the engine oil ($8) we used, how considerate of them, maybe we should send a bill for the $64+ an hour that we charge for house calls but I guess our services are just expected to be free. They offered to send us out on another boat, which was in worse shape than the one we just had. Plus as we were requesting our $100 deposit back someone else called in because their boat also wouldn't start and they too were stranded.
I don't know how they get away with renting out boats that are not in mechanical working order, and I am convinced that we would have been out on the lake until our ten hour rental window was up and they MAYBE went looking for the boat but with no working lights it would have been a mess to find us in the cove we were scoping out when the boat died. There were no emergency provisions on board like a flare gun or a simple glow stick so if you aren't a mechanic DO NOT RENT A BOAT HERE you are better off blowing up a raft you can buy at Walmart because at least then you know exactly what you payed for. read more
