If you play from the back tees be ready for a challenge. Even straight drives 280yds or so will still leave some long approach shots. Be mindful of the course layout and study any good phone application's map--the carts don't have GPS. Do this especially on tee shots. Placement is paramount everywhere as the architect has designed many blind tee shots. It's not a tight golf course by any means just a LONG course that requires some quick on the fly shot planning. Get a good golf GPS app on your phone and stay focused for the entire hole. Trust me here. It will save you several strokes. Nice staff, beautiful clubhouse, beautiful holes. You won't see another hole from the one you are on. You could scream at the top of your lungs on each hole and nobody would hear you out there. It's that huge of a place. Also, nobody from the pro shot can see you from any vantage point. Makes for a very private and tranquil experience. Lots of beautiful nature and wildlife out here. Roosters can even be heard on the finishing holes! I loved my experience and will come back soon! Give it a try. Alex

I went golfing with my brothers in law before a wedding. This course is fairly long and straight,…read morewith some sand and water, but overall it is not too challenging. The greens and fairways are well maintained. There didn't seem to be as many bothersome geese as at other courses in Chicago, which is a huge plus. We had a foursome on a Saturday beginning at 7am. We didn't have any players rushing us or slowing us down. The course and marshall do a good job setting the speed of play. For a public course, I think this is a great value. It was a beautiful day for golf with friends. I'll certainly play here again.

I stopped in the pro shop not angry or upset simply letting him know he has one group holding the entire back 9 up. the guy almost didn't even respond or even LOOK at me and after about 15 seconds says, "Yeah there are a lot of groups holding up a lot of holes...."(in a little bitchy tone...) I then reiterate that I'm not upset just wanted to let him know so if he wanted to run out there he could free up all the golfers. he responds with "so what do you want?.... a rain check"(again in a rude bitchy tone) I respond with no of course not we played 7 holes. he continues to make excuses and be extremely rude. I play anywhere between 40-60 rounds of golf a year and will be playing golf for the rest of my life (28 years old) I will NOT come back here again ESPECIALLY with a customer. How hard is it to be in a good mood or to even fake it while you're at work doing your JOB in the PRO SHOP..... never will I come back here and waste my money again total asshole in the pro shop

Working with Jessica Trzop leading up to the event was easy and efficient; she had excellent customer service and ensured that everything we needed was accounted for. Upon arrival, I was surprised to not have known that someone else would be caring for us on the day of the event. I'm wondering if this shift caused things to be lost in communication, as we didn't have things such as the P.A. System and microphone set up, A-frame stands for our welcome sign, or a welcome table. We pivoted and worked through it. Our bartender was so grumpy and passive aggressive. But there was nothing to do about that in the moment either so we tried to kill her with kindness and shake it off. Overall, it ended up being a beautiful shower, the food was excellent, and we were able to persevere through the few hiccups we had.

Nice course just northeast of Crystal Lake. Here are my thoughts:…read more Clubhouse: Nice. Nothing fancy, but better than a lot of other places I know of. Pro shop is on the smaller size, but had a decent selection of equipment, apparel, balls, etc. Snack bar inside is average at best, but a good place to relax after the round for a drink. Driving Range: Yes and No. There is a driving range directly across the street, but that street is a state highway (Rt. 176), and it is not run by the golf course, to my knowledge. It is in very close proximity though, which is why I mention it. Practice Green: I grew up in those neck of the woods and there are courses that were closer to my house, but this is where I went to work on my putting. I really like their practice green. It is medium to large in size, has some undulation to it, plenty of holes to hit at without running into other players. I also liked how the practice green was usually cut to the course greens length. Nothing better than knowing what you are going to face on the course ahead of time! Course: All in all, its a pretty easy track. You have some serious risk vs. reward type holes, and others that are pretty plain. I think the highlight of the course are holes 11-15. 11 has a three-tiered green where if you hit the wrong tier high, you aren't looking at three putts, you might be looking at four! 12 and 13 run straight through the woods and required straight shots. 14 is the best risk/reward hole on the course. Cut the corner just right and you will like where you end up. 15 is a par three completely over water. If you can make through these 5 holes in good shape, you are looking at a solid round. Staff: Have never had a problem with anyone. That said, no one is really memorable either though. Don't know what that really means? Food: Most of the time during the summer when I have been there they have the grill out at the turn grilling brats, hot dogs, burgers, etc. To me, there is nothing better than a freshly grilled meal! Love when they do this. Prices are good too, better than most courses. Overall: In my opinion, I would rate this as one of the best of the second-tier courses in the area. I would not hesitate to play up there with friends if given the chance. You can do better than this, but you also can do a lot worse than this course. Give it a run!
