Decent course. A little beat up but In very good condition due to all the rain in the area this year. Dusty gravel cart paths. Great value. Bar was closed the Monday I was there. No starter so line up and go. Honor system is silly since a single walking and a twosome riding was in front of us. A starter would have combined them. read more

For whatever reason the Lake County Forest Preserve doesn't manage this course to the same level as the others. Everything about this course is tired and somewhat neglected. Just a few observations on very basic things... Turf care is marginal at best, weeds are common and cut limbs and brush are scattered across the entire course. The pro shop is a small room that has the feel of a funeral home. The majority of holes don't have ball washers. Pins are not plumb. Traps are sloppy... One or two of these things might not get your attention but add them together and you get a mediocre golf experience. Brae Loch could be a much better (and profitable) course with a little effort. The Forest Preserve is definitely mismanaging this asset. read more

I went golfing with my brothers in law before a wedding. This course is fairly long and straight, with some sand and water, but overall it is not too challenging. The greens and fairways are well maintained. There didn't seem to be as many bothersome geese as at other courses in Chicago, which is a huge plus. We had a foursome on a Saturday beginning at 7am. We didn't have any players rushing us or slowing us down. The course and marshall do a good job setting the speed of play. For a public course, I think this is a great value. It was a beautiful day for golf with friends. I'll certainly play here again. read more

Nice course for the money. You can't stack this place up against an expensive course, but a great value and well maintained for the money. They called me this morning in regards to my late morning tee time to notify me that there are no carts allowed today due to the heavy rain last night. I informed them that I have to cancel because my father I am golfing with is 65 years old. They cancelled my tee time with no issue. I appreciate that way more than letting us show up and telling us then. Always friendly staff. 18 with a cart on weekdays is so cheap it might as well be free. Would definitely recommend for a casual game when funds are limited. read more

Website booking is not synced up with REALITY. Booked a tee time for 5:10pm on the website. Showed up to a parking lot with maybe 3 cars total. Walked up to the "Shop" door. Locked. Noticed someone putting carts in their overnight area. Asked him if anyone was golfing. Shrugged his shoulders, continued what he was doing, and mentioned there's not much daylight left. He was too busy getting what he needed done to talk. I proceeded to put my clubs back in my car. Same guy walks up and starts unlocking the locked "Shop". I mentioned to him that they might want to make sure they don't allow people to book tee times if they're not going to honor them. He said, "I don't have anything to do with the website. it's October, don't you have a calendar?" I gave him a piece of my mind and informed him what a fantastic job he's doing being the face of Brae Loch! One thousand ways to handle a situation with a customer and he picked the bottom of the barrel. I will never be back. I will inform anyone inquiring about Brae Loch to STAY AWAY! Booked a tee time at Countryside in Mundelein and was treated like king the next day. read more

Fun and fairly easy course. Good layout, a few fun holes and more than a few that are pretty unremarkable. Still, it's a good old style track, distance isn't critical, but you still have to have a decent iron game. Very walkable as well. I'll probably play it again. read more

It's an ok course. STRAIGHTforward layout. Fairly easy if you hit fairways- greens are pretty darn fast and like concrete. But fun! A little pricey for what you get... and for how freaking far it is from civilization. read more

I have played here many times in my life and so I am sad to say that this place has gone downhill. I recently paid $20 for 9 holes walking, which is higher than it use to be. The fairways were not mowed because it was "wet", but it looked like it hadn't been mowed in weeks. Multiple holes had standing water and made it unplayable. Not to mention the bugs at Brae Loch are out of control. I'm not sure why but some bugs are normal, but you can't even swing without being attacked in the face by flies. Worst $20 I've ever spent and will be playing at other courses in the future. read more

Went to play golf with my sister as we do on a weekly basis. Brae loch seemed to be a decent and challenging course, so we chose to have this as our go to course for the summer. It was truly disappointing yesterday when bad behavior was rewarded on the golf course. We were told not to drive in the blue flagged area with the carts due to seeding that was to repair damages from the flood. There were 2 young (I won't call them men because men would never act the way they were) adolescent were playing behind us and may I say hazardous to not only the course, but dangerous to the people on the course. Once they bullied and played through a man and his little son playing golf they ended up behind us, driving their golf balls past our game play, two of which nearly him me and one nearly hitting my sister. I waited and as they pulled closer, driving through all the flagged areas to get to where their golf balls were I confronted them about their game play. After having a few heated words with them they said "just let us play through" they're 2 groups ahead of us where do you think you are goi g faster than anyone else. Another few words exchanged and I decided it was time to get the starter involved. Dave the starter met us at the next hole, I discussed with him the issue at hand. He stated he would take care of the issue. Dave took the two young men and rewarded them by going to the first tee and letting them play with no one in front of them. I was shocked and appalled by this action and so were a few other players that had to experience what we did from these two people. Once we finished our round I the person in the clubhouse of what Dave's choice was to resolve the issue. The pro shop employee stated "they paid just as you did and deserve to play" so let's reward the young people with bad behavior, no discipline for their actions? He said "is solved the issue right?" I let him know we have played there all summer and we would not return, his reply? " I'm sorry to hear that" Avoid the course, there are plenty of courses I. The area, better kept, professional staff, and won't put up arrogant young punks that weren't raised to hold any respect for anyone. So please choose another course and enjoy a safe play atmosphere. read more

I enjoy golfing a Brae Loch. It's a nice laid back course. It is great shape considering it is owned by Lake County. I think it is one of the best places to golf for the money. I think I paid around $30 for 18 and a cart on a Saturday morning. I would recommend this Course!!! read more

I've played break loch multiple times every year for the last 10 years. It's an okay course. Today was the worst I've ever been treated. The ranger was really rude and mean. Didn't let us finish the last home with an hour of daylight left. Even though we played for daylight and were walking. read more
