We took a last minute City Tour booking via our Hotel Concierge. Hop on/off. The route covers the main attractions (Marienplatz, Stachus, English Garden, Palace, BMW Museum) as well a good amount of ground-takes about 2 hours if one just stays on the Bus. Our upper level Bus seats were faded and had seen better days. The lower level seats had cushions and were in better shape. (Would imagine because the roof is open during warmer periods). Our Driver as well another Driver were helpful and gave us some good tips. Ear buds were provided for the tour/sights information with multiple language options. A good tour that covers much ground with the option to explore further. read more

The Gray Line Munich is a wonderful hop-on hop-off bus in Munich. I was able to get half price tickets through MasterCard World Elite. The tickets are usually 20 Euros a person however we paid 20 for both of us. We caught the beginning of the tour at the Hauptbahnhof station. We parked underground and were able to take the elevator up to the street very close to the start of the tour. The tour itself was good. It was confusing since they had us do the last half of the tour first, then go back to the beginning and do the first half. However, this actually ended up being better since we were able to have the last stop we got off on a Marienplatz, we were then able to walk to Viktualienmarkt. The bus driver handed out headphones to passengers and they had the tour broadcast in many languages so all could understand what we were driving past. The tour went by many of the top tourist attractions and the bus themselves were fairly comfortable. I would easily take this tour again if I were in Munich. read more

The Gray Line Munich was a great way to spend an afternoon in Munich. My sister was able to get tickets from her credit card company for a great deal. The tickets are usually 20 Euros a ticket but she was able to get them for 20 Euros total. We started the tour at stop 1 which is at the Hauptbahnhof station. There is an underground parking area with plenty of parking spots and there was an elevator that took you up to the street very close to the start of the tour. Parking for about 4 hours was $15 Euros. After we boarded the bus the bus driver handed out headphones to passengers as they have recordings of the tour in many languages. Some of those languages were English, Spanish, and French. It appeared there were about 7 different languages. The tour stops at about 11 different attractions between the two bus rides. The tour itself was nice although we were told to board one bus and it ended up being the last half of the tour so then we had to go back to the starting point and doing the first half last. This ended up working out since we didn't want to get off at any of those stops but the sights were still nice to see. When we boarded the bus for the first half of the tour it was a great tour. I enjoyed that part much more. We ended up getting off at Marienplatz and we spent some time at the Viktualienmarkt. We were able to grab sausages, beer, a pretzel and then ice cream for dessert. We were then able to walk around the area and see some of the amazing old buildings. If you are in Munich and want an easy way to see the city I highly suggest doing this. For me driving in Munich was awful and this way I didn't have to. read more

I took the Gray Line tour from Munich to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein on 12/29/17. All was well until we arrived at Neuschwanstein. Although the English-speaking tour guide discouraged use of the horse drawn carriages to ascend the hill to the castle, it was a necessity for tour participants with physical challenges (especially in the snow). Unfortunately, the timing of the bus arrival did not allow enough time for us to wait in line for the ride uphill, then actually take the trip and get up to the castle in time for the ticketed tour. I, therefore, missed the tour. I felt ripped-off because I was required to pre-pay for the castle tour ticket and it went unused. Once I stepped off of the uphill carriage, I simply lined up again for the downhill ride without touring the castle. Gray Line must be more considerate of guests with physical limitations and ensure that there is plenty of time allotted for them to actually ride up the hill and take the castle tour. Otherwise, the entire experience is a very disappointing. Additionally, our stop in Oberammergau lasted only a few brief minutes because there was no consideration given for a passenger with a walker who took longer than expected to return to the bus after the tour at Linderhof. (A golf cart should have been available to help transport her or additional time should have been allowed to accommodate her slow pace). The tour guide was clearly annoyed by her slow pace and she let her know it. UPDATE: Gray Line refunded our money after we contacted them. read more

First off, there are tours in English and in German. So make sure you are in the correct language bus prior to boarding -- although they did a very good job making sure they had the right people. They can pick you up from your hotel if it is one of a few hotels that they do this for, so ask. Also, be prepared for the fact that admission to these castles could not be pre-paid through Gray Line (he tried to explain why, but my attention span didn't catch it, although it sounded legit, LOL) -- so bring the cash for the actual admission to the castles. Our guide was simple and direct with his speech especially when it came to giving instructions on drop off, times to meet, and rendezvous locations. These bus tours took us to two castles: Linderhoff and Neuschwanstein, in addition to a brief stop at Oberamergau, home of the passion plays. In german tradition, things were organized and on-time. The surprise we had, was that our guide had a sense of humor, we totally weren't expecting that. German-type humor, but humor nevertheless. We had a blast! We recently purchased a 48hr pass for Munich Germany and I now regret the purchase. I have used hop on/ hop off services before with out trouble, but my experience with Gray Line in Munich was nothing short of infuriating. When we boarded at the first stop the employees on the bus were not friendly. In fact the driver scolded riders for boarding with food, which would have been okay except for the fact that the narration assistant had an open cup of coffee on board. Additionally, the tour narrator had the first 2 seats on the bus "reserved" for her stuff and actually asked two older women to move so she could use the chairs. I don't understand why she didn't use the special elevated chair at the front of the bus. I could understand needing to be near the front, but it didn't seem necessary to me to ask an older woman to move so the guide could have a chair for her backpack. I thought passengers with mobility issues were supposed to have priority seating. Speaking of passengers with mobility issues, the driver on our hop on/off bus had no patience for those passengers with reduced mobility. The whole reason why we spent the absurd amount of money on the hop off tickets instead of using Munich's wonderfully connected S Bahn was to minimize walking distances for one of our group members who has a mobility issue. On our first "hop on" attempt the driver "paused" at the stop and immediately proceeded to drive away. The passengers on the bench who needed a little bit of time to get up or walk to the bus were left in the cold. In fact, the amount of time the driver allowed passengers to embark was so short even many fully able bodied individuals were left behind waiving frantically at the bus. There were many things that were unsatisfactory about my experience with gray line in Munich but the most significant was their treatment of passengers. They were treated rudely with no regard for their special conditions. I would not recommend this service for any type of traveler, but especially not for those who may need a little more time due to physical limitations. If you absolutely feel you need a hop on/hop off service please look into the red bus line instead. read more

Premier package for viewing the Bavarian castles well worth the money if you want a comfortable ride in a small group to see the castles. Our guide Carolina was great and we learned a lot. Because of the small group we were in and out of places quickly. They offered snacks and drinks on the bus and even beer and wine at the end of the day! I did two tours with Gray Line, the Eagle's Nest tour and the Neuschwanstein Tour. I had a great experience with both, especially with the guide Elizabeth. She was the guide for both tours and was incredibly friendly and helpful. The information she presented made the trips far more interesting, and I really felt as though I got my money's worth. The destinations themselves are incredible, Eagle's Nest views are amazing, and the castles are beautiful. I would caution that there isn't a ton of time at each stop, so you have to be ready to go. There's plenty of time on the bus to eat snacks and rest, but once you're off the bus you really have to keep moving in order to see everything. read more

I went on the royal castles tour and all I can say is that it was not worth the money. The tour guide was often unclear about the meeting places and times, which resulted in the bus almost leaving without me at Neuschwanstein Palace. Thankfully, I was at the right place as the bus was leaving and the bus stopped for me. It's disappointing how I paid 79€ for this tour, yet the tour was rushed and disorganized. This was my first tour I've went on and based on my experience with Gray Line, I'll never use this company again. read more

Not worth the price for the Allianz Arena stadium tour. Basically just a bus ride there and back, but with very strict departure times that made us feel like we were rushed and couldn't fully enjoy what Allianz had to offer. Save your money and just take other transport there and back. read more

I took the Romantic Road tour the company offers. I would give the locations and amount of time spent in each place 5 stars, the guide and meeting point organization 1 star--but Gray Line doesn't deserve credit for the beauty of Rothenburg or Harburg Castle, so 2 stars it is. Both destinations are SO worth seeing, but if possible find another way to get there! The tour was disorganized from the start. According to the voucher, I was supposed to board the tour bus in front of the Kardstadt department store. I arrived early, saw a bus, asked the bus driver if I was in the right place. He looked at my voucher and said I was. I waited another 15 minutes and the guide arrived. She said no, the tour I was on met quite a bit up the street. I made my way down the block, eventually the other bus arrived. When that guide arrived, she took my voucher and gave me a ticket to board. She asked what language I spoke, and jotted something down. Several more people boarded, and luckily I was sitting close enough to the front to hear another English speaker told they should be on a different bus, because English would not be spoken on. I went up to ask why I had not been told the same, and she looked confused, then shooed me off to another bus. A lot of other people were milling around, confused about what bus they should be on. The biggest issue was with the guide, Arnoud. To say he was just going through the motions is an understatement. He clearly had no interest in his job, and spend the entire time on the bus puffing on an electronic cigarette... on the bus! I felt so sorry for the poor elderly couple sitting behind him, who looked so uncomfortable with smoke in their face. Then after all that, he shamelessly plugged for tips and positioned himself so that everyone had to pass close by and felt pressured to add to his collection envelope. read more

We were unsure about a tour after reading reviews but this was our only option to tour Neuschwanstein and Linderhof at the last minute. Our hotel booked the tickets and the bus even picked us up at the hotel. Our guide, Elizabeth, was warm and friendly and had a wealth of knowledge to offer during the drive. And she spoke excellent English. Unfortunately we hit a traffic jam which further limited our touring time. Elizabeth did an amazing job maximizing our time by quickly getting tickets and thoroughly explaining when, where, how, and most importantly...departure time! We didn't get to stop in Oberammergau but the bus did drive through. The bus was comfortable and sold beverages (beer too!) onboard. This is an active tour, with a jam packed schedule and a lot of walking. Those with mobility issues will find this difficult. We had an amazing day while checking the castles off the bucket list! read more

Oh, How I wish I could put ZERO stars. Rude tour guide. Misinformation, or just plain liars. Not sure which is worse. We started our hop on-hop off tour in Marienplatz, which I guess was our first mistake. The tour guide treated us like an imposition rather than paying customers. Yes the tour is supposedly bilingual, but she spoke in German about 90% of the time, offering up scraps of mumbled English for the Americans who dare board her bus. We got off at the Nymphenburg Palace and wandered the grounds for a while- a beautiful day for November, and boarded again later with a different tour guide who spoke a little better English. (Of course, never once were we offered the headphones I kept hearing about. I saw the plugs for said headphones, and thought "Gee it would be nice to hear whatever it is they're saying in the language I understand and that they falsely advertised that I would hear.") The second tour guide was not unkind, but we asked about catching the last trip back to Marienplatz. She told us that as long as we didn't catch the final pickup of the day, we would be able to make it back around. Sounds like a plan, so we got off to see the English Garten and headed back to the bus stop at the second-to-last pickup time to head back to Marienplatz. Unfortunately we found ourselves back with the the first tour guide, a woman so grossly inconsiderate I have no idea how she keeps her job. First of all, she complained that my mother's slow moving pace was going to make them late. "Come on. It's already 4:47. We are late." The bus driver confirmed with a snarky response in German. (Newsflash: I don't have to speak your language to know that you're being rude to me.) In truth, my atomically calibrated watch, confirmed by iPhone time, said it was 4:43. Secondly, and most importantly, there was NO TRIP BACK around to finish our loop. We had been lied to/egregiously misinformed that we would make it back to Marienplatz on this pickup. They kicked us all off the bus at the next stop where we had to navigate our own way back to the hotel. When I tried to tell her that this was not consistent with what we'd been told earlier, she basically pushed us out of her way, yelled that we were wrong, that we were idiots, and that no one would have told us that. She walked away, the bus drove away, and we were left, stranded in an unfamiliar area of city we did not know by a company that will NEVER see a penny of my money again. Please don't give these jerks your business. Take the train or a taxi. Every other German I have met has been considerate and respectful. This tour left me with a terrible taste in my mouth and huge loss of respect for Gray Line. read more

They explained everything and sold tickets right on the bus to avoid the long cues to buy them and at a discount price!! Do not miss this tour. read more

Booked the small group Neuschwanstein and Lindenhof tour. More than worth it for the extra money!!! We received snacks on board and drinks. The nicest coach bus i have ever ridden in. Large comfortable chairs in single rows that swivel and recline. The ride is so beautiful but i couldnt help but fall asleep several times because it was so comfortable! Our guide was Monica and driver was Frida. For English tourists monica is fantastic! Honestly the best tour guide i have ever had. Super sweet, knowledgable and accommodating. Her english is great and her inflections due to being German are really nice and it makes it almost like she is singing a song while giving the tour! We only had 7 people total on our tour and got a lot of personal attention. The 2 castles were absolutely gorgeous and the German countryside and the Bavarian alps are truly a thing of beauty. I generally hate everything about nature in the Northeast of the US but everything in Bavaria looks like a freaking postcard! I would suggest to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers because the walk up to Neuschwanstein is no joke. It is up hill and can be tiring if you arent use to walking distances. You can rent a horse carriage or take a bus up but its a nice walk and youll save yourself a few euros. We ended up eating lunch at the Museum restaurant down below by the lake. Wow what an exciting view! Being a foreigner i felt really safe and comfortable in Monica's hands. These guys are excellent A+ read more

We participated yesterday in the Neuschwanstein and Linderhof day tour from Munich. The castle and palace are so worth your time, but choose a different tour operator. The time was not spent wisely and we didn't get to do the grotto tour at Linderhof or have a sit down lunch. We did get to spend an hour in a town no one wanted to be in and we were told not to eat lunch there since we'd have time for lunch later, when in fact there was never time for lunch. Plan on going by car yourself to these places or choose a better tour operator. read more

A complete and total waste of money. The bus had a leak and packed us in like sardines. We ended up not getting off at places just because we were fearful of losing our seat and would be forced to stand. The tour guide was quiet in many sections and that was really all we were paying for. Do yourself a favor and take a taxi to Nymphenburg palace and/or the BMW Museum if you're in a group of two or more. You can walk to the rest of the locations yourself. read more

We also took the Royal Castle tour which was amazing- the tour guide, Holger, and driver, Ell, made the entire experience perfect by treating us all like good friends. One of the most disappointing tours that I have taken. We had 3 guides throughout the day, and none of them spoke English well enough to be understood. The headphone translation wasn't working on one of our buses, so that wasn't an option. It also was clear that none of the guides was giving as much information in English as each was in German. Our second guide, Maria, was as rude as could be, insisting on taking up two seats on the upper level even though it was crowded; our other two guides were polite enough to either stand or take a seat on the lower level. Finally, the city tour bus wasn't an open air bus as advertised, making it very difficult to see all the sights, with an opaque plastic roof pulled over us, even though there wasn't a chance of rain in the forecast. I won't be using this company again. read more

We were impressed by the castles but the tour was huge and we were one of two buses which were both full. We were there early and still wound up on the second bus. The drive on the bus was comfortable but seemed unending, especially coming back. We took a Sunday tour yet there was a lot of traffic. I imagine the two stops before Neuschwannstein was to break up the trip. Linderhof was interesting and charming as it looked more like a fancy villa than a castle. The grounds were impressive but the "tour" was hurried and mechanical. Our excursion guide, Peter, (more on him later )impressed on us the need for keeping to the schedule. We then stopped at beautiful Oberammegau but since it was Sunday all the great woodworking shops were closed and that was too bad as what we saw was impressive and we certainly would have lied to examine some items for purchase. The last stop was Hohenschwangau and its Neuschwannstein castle. The village was totally tourist driven, crowded and has lost any charm it may have had at one time, due to the total immersion in a tourist attraction as it is filled with trinket shops and assembly line eateries. We opted for the bus ride up the hill (we highly recommend the bus which was well worth the price). Even with the ride up, there is still about a 15 minute uphill walk which has a stop along the way to get photos from The Mariannes Bridge. On this day it was so crowded the walk to the bridge alone took about a half hour. Once to the bridge, it was crowded and actually seemed to wobble a bit under the stress of so many people jostling for position to get photo ops. The system set up here was pure chaos as the bridge had traffic going on and off from the same small access point with a lot of pushing and shoving. I later found that some people from our tour abandoned the bridge in order to make our appointed tour time. We barely got on and grabbed a few hastily taken photos. Once at the castle, the tour was adequate and the only way you got to see the inner rooms (no photography). The impressive part is at the end of the tour when you can go out into one of the turrets and take massive amounts of photos of the beautiful countryside. The walk downhill was surprisingly tough and you need a good 15-20 minutes (don't take the paid bus down).Leave enough time to catch your bus as several on our tour were substantially late getting back -rude!. The castles were beautiful, as was the countryside, and well worth the trip but I can do without the touristy sidetracks. Next time we would opt for a more leisurely visit (we had tried to book Pure Bavarian Tours which had a minimum of 4 people and max 8 with no luck after waiting several months). As for the tour itself...our tour guide was Peter, easily in his 70's, who was a nice guy but totally reminded me of my father-in-law. Easily distracted he rambled on and on about nonsense throughout the tour. Over-extended explanations, opinions on everything which had nothing to do with the tour and endless meanderings on anything that popped into this head dominated the tour. He just never shut up. Nice man but please you don;t have to fill all the dead air with talk. People were actually laughing when there was a respite in his never ending speeches because each time there was a silence it lasted a few seconds and he started up again. Let the tour speak for itself. One gripe I had with the tour and it had nothing to do with the tour itself is that at our first stop, we returned to our seats upstairs (we had been one of the first people on the bus) there were other people sitting in them. They indicated someone else was in theirs and they looked for the first seats they could find upstairs. They did offer to move to another spot but we grabbed seats two rows behind them. We had to take someone else's seats and those people had to take someone else's seats and so on. So to whoever took someone else's seats they started a ripple effect and lots of folks had to change seats. Not social etiquette and shame on you. After that, at each stop, we put some personal items on the seats so no one would take them. A very warm day, very crowded and too many blips to make this a perfect day. I truly suggest a very small tour or rent a car and seek these sites out on your own. read more

We have take the Gray Line tour in every major city in the states and internationally. This tour is usually one of the highlights of our visit. The Munich tour was by far the worst experience we have ever had. The tour guide told us the names of each building only, there was no context or historical relevance provided. Secondly, we were dropped off at the BMW museum. When we were ready to go, we wanted 15 minutes, which was the waiting time communicated to us by the guide. After 30 mi it's we called the local company to be told it was a 30 minute wait. After 45 minutes in 20 F degrees, I called again and was told the BMW museum shop had been closed down. I explained that we had been dropped off here so that made no sense. She said I could walk 5 minutes to the next stop. Instead we paid 20€ for a taxi back to the hotel. Very disappointing and costly. I would find an alternative tour company. read more
