Everything you've heard is true. Put you car in neutral and watch the landscape pass as you roll back up hill. read more

I was walking Rubio Canyon and serendipitously came across this spot in the road. It was a breezy sunset and I thought I heard the wind rustling through the trees. As I got closer it sounded like animals in distress, then is sounded like babies panicking. I looked over the side and a sudden strong breeze lifted me off of my feet and started pushing me up the hill. It was the most bizarre thing, how can a 200lb man blow up a hill on a beautiful evening with calm skies. I tried to dig my feet into the ground with no luck. Next thing I know I was thrust over the edge, suspended in mid air looking at a gravely water catchment 80 feet below me. I said to myself " sh*t this is going to really hurt or kill me" I then flashed to my wife and children and said "Goodbye I love you" I started plummeting down towards the sharp rocks below. Next think I know I felt like 100 small things flip me over and start pushing my back. They were pushing ever inch of me from my head to my thighs. Next thing I know I'm raising up, I'm pushed onto the road and rotated into a standing position. I crumbled to knees and a child's voice said , "Mr. Be Careful" A minute later my phone rang. It was my daughter she said "where are you, are you ok" I said I was walking and almost fell in a ravine. She said she thought I was in trouble and called me to check. I continued my walk. When I got home my wife asked "What the hell did you do to your fleece?" I said "what" The back of my jacket and pants were covered in handprints. Children's hands dipped in paint. I can no longer walk in that area. read more

It's not a business (as it is listed) but it's a neat little spooky attraction. That's completely free.

My buddy and I went here on a random night checking out, if the myths and legends of this spot is real. We included that it is not real because we put his car in neutral and it did not go up. We even moved to different spots of this hill, but nothing unexplainable happened. Although, his car does not move backwards in neutral (maybe his Kia is just to heavy, but that's something, I guess). I gave this place a 3 star just because the back story of this hill what made us come in the first place. Overall, cool spooky story but... its DEBUNKED!!! PS: Go check it out, if you're around the area and have nothing do PSS: Let me know if it works for you :) read more

Easily explained by a simple Google search. "Objects such as trees and walls that normally provide visual clues to the true vertical, may be leaning slightly. This creates an optical illusion, making a slight downhill look like an uphill slope. Objects may appear to roll uphill. Sometimes rivers even seem to flow against gravity." read more

My phone didn't work up there. SCARY! I was looking around my car for hand prints... from the tales I read. Arrggghhhh... After reading about this infamous supposedly haunted area in the hills of Pasadena, I finally went to see for myself. hrmmm.... really?? Go check it out! Basically, I thought the area would be secluded and dark... which it was kind of. I thought the area would be run down with trees everywhere, and and an old unmaintained road leading to no where... I was wrong! The area around Gravity Hill is beautiful with spectacular views around around parts the area as you drive around the neighborhood. The houses are well kept, and easily worth a bundle because location overseeing parts of L.A. and the San Gabriel Valley. Let's put it this way. The car did steadily roll up the hill with a little gas and then put on neutral. A full bottle of water and my volleyball was also part of the experiment. Yes, it did roll up the hill. The incline going up is about 20 feet, starting from a road sign. BUT the twenty feet of the incline consists of minor bumps on the surface of the road which it was not flat! So if you know the Laws of Physics about gravity, such as the shifting of weight on a circular object giving an object momentum to roll... there you go! Sorry to ruin it for you! I must say it was fun stopped in the middle of the street goofing off. I was waiting for something to pop out just like the Haunted Hayride that would have made us pee in our pants... but oh well. Gravity Hill seems to be more of a "lovers" hangout around the its streets. LOL. read more

I can honestly say that I was scared and surprised when my jeep starting moving uphill really fast. You have to me at the bottom of the hill right next to the house that is always dark. Park in front of the driveway and put your car in neutral and make sure your car is literally nose down, but up. And watch your car move uphill. read more

First time here and oooh my goodness. I did not put powder on my car, I did not step out my car and place things on the street to see if they moved. I did though go to the flat section infront of the speed limit sign "25 MPH", turned off the radio, put the car in neutral and started recording from my phone. Seconds later my car started rolling and then shifting another direction. The radio suddenly turned on. Prior to turning it off I had it on an r&b station. When it suddenly turned on it sounded as if it was loudly flipping through the AM stations and stopped on a weak station. At that point I was so scared I left. Must have stayed for a total of two minutes. read more

So i remembered to finally visit this place after many numerous trips up to Pasadena. I was in the area and said F it, let's see what all the hype is about. The location is right across from a mud collection drain. Be sure to get directions here before you go, there are many side streets that you may easily get lost in. I brought my camera to show you where the location is as the photos that are on yelp don't show you exactly where it starts. WTF is with all the ghost stories. Why would a bus be in the foothills in the first place! What is really interesting about being at Gravity Hill is how it really messes with your perception and inner balance. Your mind says, oh it's downhill, but the more you look at it, the more confused you become. Bring a waterbottle or find one on the road. Give it a little push and watch in amazement. read more

Neat little spot to take the kids. They say it's an optical illusion but If u wanna up the story this is what I was told. There was a school bus of kids that crashed over there bridge right below and the reason you go up the hill is because it's the children trying to help keep you from passing the same spot they flipped over. You can also bring some flour for effect. Maybe you can see little handprints on the hood of your car from them pushing ;) haven't gone at night but it'd be fun next time for some cheap thrills, maybe try and get spooked ^_^ read more

Stories you have heard are true, it's haunted. I went there at 4:00am with some friends & on top the truck we put baby powder, & put the car in neutral. When we left gravity hills we seen handprints on the back of the car. To make sure it wasn't our old hand prints we tested it & put our handprints then put baby powder, it did not show us our handprints. Very scary but adventurous experience ! read more

Gravity Hill - Landmarks & Historical Buildings Near Me - Altadena, California

The tale: A long, long time ago a bus full of school children went off of the curve in the mountains in Altadena. No one survived... Now when you go to that spot and put your car in neutral, the children try "saving" you and push your car up the hill... *supposedly if you put powder on your hood/trunk, you can see the little hand prints* Gravity Hill is located by going north on Porter off of Altadena Dr., then go west onto Loma Alta. (If you hit Maiden Lane, you have gone too far...) There is fencing on the south side of the street at a bend. What you do is just that... park your car (either direction...feel free to try both sides of the street) and put it in neutral. You will go in the opposite direction of gravity... and your car will roll UP. Also, if you take a water bottle (not completely full), and put it on the hill, that will also roll up... It's a fun place to take people and tell them the 'tale'... I was super surprised as a teenager when I was first taken up there... but even as an adult it's still really neat!! Good luck finding it... you can always turn your radio down and try to listen children's for laughter. ;P read more

It's a parlor trick. Outside. The illusion: Leave the car in neutral and it looks like it's rolling uphill. The reality: You can't see the horizon and what looks like downhill is really the opposite. And yet, you'll still have people who swear they put talcum powder on the trunk of their car and found children's hand prints all over it that weren't there before. Sure, go ahead and tell your stoned and superstitious friends some cock and bull ghost story about the Mexican American War battle where one side got slaughtered trying to haul a cannon uphill. Or the one about the school bus full of kids that rolled over after skidding on black ice and the only one who made it out alive was a third grade teacher who later committed suicide eating a toxic cocktail of paste and red glitter. Make it up, if you want. I just did. There are a ton of "gravity"/magnetic hill stories out there, but it's pretty much the Knott's Berry Farm Haunted Shack physics found in the real world. If your group goes for that, have at it. read more

There's no such things as ghost, goblins or dead children pushing your car. But it's still a pretty decent night time activity if you're in the area above Pasadena. Besides being a mystery spot it also has a great view of lights high above where Lake ends. The ghost story that school children on a bus who got killed by a train goes back but those who are telling it don't realize that it's for another gravity hill in California. One next to a set of train tracks. So at least it makes sense on that account. The one in Altadena on the other hand... not so much. No matter if the story is total bulls#!%, it doesn't change the fact that if your car is parked on this street, you'll see the tagged up markings on the floor, and you turn off the power, it'll move up hill all by itself. How does it do this? Not ghost children and not a bad break job on your mechanics account. It's due to a 5% grade on the hill. So while it looks like it's going up hill, it's all an optical illusions are created by a hilly road where the level of the horizon is obscured. Sorry to tell you Santa isn't real, but it had to be done sooner or later. Does this mean that the site isn't very fun? Not at all. I've taken friends here when there's nothing else to do late at night and it does freak them the hell out when the car is turned off and it just starts moving backwards. It's five minutes of entertainment. You could always follow this up by going to the "Enchanted Forest" at the end of Lake Blvd. and scaring the crap out of them there. read more

fuk yo couch!! I just went there about 30 min ago with a group of my friends and it is no joke. Very cool and awesome with great company. Located near a house that stands alone on Loma Alta on a bend. There's a open field with a gate that says "NO TRESPASSING." Behind those gates are rocks or some shit to make some graves with. Across the street, you'll find a Green Truck (Old F150 circa 1982?) parked out of the front of the house that looks straight out of a teen scary movie (i.e. Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Water bottle works big time as I got out of my car with a friend and tried it out. Sure enough, the bottle was placed on it's side on a downward slope and it started to go upwards... shitted a brick and ran back to the car. Baby powder is a joke tho... no hand prints... bullshit. Very entertaining when your drunk especially and with good company.. make sure to do this shit at like 1AM for the "spooky effect" (don't be a pussy and go at high noon cause cars come and go constantly)... its hard to find, but you'll probably find someone else who's also trying to find it and they'll tell you where it is. read more

Why is the story always with the bus full of schoolchildren? This is the EXACT same story that corresponds to a spot outside of San Antonio Texas (much more mythical than Altadena) where your car gets "pushed" over some train tracks by the ghosts of little kids. The story is kind of creepy and cool until you hear it more than once in reference to more than one place. This sensation is the product of a forced perspective where landscape features make it appear as though you are starting on a level surface and then a car put into neutral will be propelled forward, when actually the ground is not level to begin with. Those little ghost kids? Yeah those are all the illegitimate children of the god GRAVITY. Oooooohhhhhooohoohoohohhhhhhh read more

Had fun nothing spectacular. But I did post a YouTube video :) gravity hill Altadena. read more

Went once in high school and went to the wrong street, so we left. Came back today and surprisingly it worked. First off driving on that street a presence arose and I didn't feel it when we were on our way up there. Put the car in neutral facing down hill on the right side in front 1054 e Loma Alta drive and we were being pushed back up very slowly. Did it twice. Worked both times. read more

One year about 10 years I took my daughter and her friends on Halloween and the gravity hill thing is real. But the powder thing not. Down the street is the asylum that was shut down. read more

I went at night, and it didn't seem to work. I needed to do it a few times to convince myself that it was real. Sitting as the passenger, I got nothing, but driving, it slowly rolled uphill, i guess.. Cool if you're taking a gullible date up through Altadena, but I don't think I'll be frequenting this place. read more

Finally! Well I've been meaning to check out gravity hill ever since I've heard about it. Yes, it did work. I think my expectations were a little higher than what I got out of it. It was still fun tho and pretty cool to check out. ya, a little spooky, and that makes the fun of it! The best part was when my car and this other random car raced. They hauled ass; we lost. :( wait has anyone explored past the "no trespassing" gate? or is it just part of a house. That would suck to live there, so many cars always pass by and post up in the street to experience the gravity. read more

I went to it. it works. its very dark gives it a scary vibe but nothing scary. science messed up the night. read more

Just when you think not much going on...wait a minute... wait for it...(I hope your CAR is OFF and in NEUTRAL gear :D :0)... do you see your heavy car rolling UP THE HILL!!! XD so freakin creepy! Definitely a say your prayer and let's experiment gut clench moment, have fun everyone and be safe! read more

After watching videos on youtube, I expected a lot more. It took a very long time to find without really knowing how to get here exactly. Stopped at CVS to buy baby powder & ask for directions, but it`s not easy to find without someone knowing the exact location. All the houses around this area apparently don`t like to answer the door at 9PM. There was only one other car here when I was here. Gravity Hill WORKS. Although, it`s just kind of an illusion, it`s pretty cool. Putting baby powder on your car however does not work, it will only require you to get a car wash afterwards. You wont find any hand prints on your car unless they are yours. -» Probably will only be fun the first time around -» Not worth the drive, unless around the area -» will give you a few minutes of entertainment read more

I don't know if this place is haunted but some weird shit happened. I came with a friend and wasn't sure which hill it was so we tested the first slope we saw. Put the car in neutral and see if the car would go up but it didn't, it went down hill and after 10 seconds of it going downhill, my car stuttered and jerked. The engine oil light came up and the battery light came on. My battery is new and my oil life is at 90% so I thought this unusual and put my car in drive and decided to do a U-turn and mid turn my car just shut down completely dead. I turned the keys off and took them off and sat there for a minute then turned it back on and the oil and battery light disappeared. We then found the hill people were talking about and surprisingly your car does go uphill in neutral which doesn't make sense. My friend and I at this point were too freaked out to put the baby powder. Might have been coincidence but it was definitely freaky how it felt like something hit my car from underneath causing it to go dead. read more

proper way to get to gravity hill: head north on Lake Ave from 210 fwy right on Altadena left on Porter left on Alta Loma place car in neutral at the point of the hill where it starts to descend downward get spooked out and enjoy if you cant find the exact spot, there will always be another car there... read more

This place is horrible. Of course your car will slide on neutral! You're on a slope! We found a flat section infront of the speed limit sign "25 MPH", put the car in neutral & nothing happened. BooO! But the view was nice! read more

My friend and I decided to come and check out the hype lol I mean it's cool and a little creepy but we didn't last more than 15 min here we let the car roll a bit and that was it fun was over lol the neighborhood around is very pretty though and there's a little view as well, I'd recommend it if you have nothing better to do and want to goof around for a bit read more

We felt only slight movement here. It's a pretty great street and only a few blocks from Haunted Forest. The chill factor is high here for many reasons other than the car rolling. We were more freaked out by the thought that wolves might come attack the car from the darkness just beyond the fencing. You can hear them howl. read more

This place is creepy at night, and if you want to be scared its cool. But definitely not haunted. Certain areas where you put your car in neutral it will go "backwards" when slanted downhill, but some areas it won't. You just have to be at the perfect angle right beside the fence in order for it to work. It has a creepy vibe there for sure though. read more

Holy crapola!... My friends and I came out here one night to test out the Gravity Hill... at first, it was just a tiny push back against our car... however, my friends out of disbelief wanted to try it a few more times... I swear, the third time, I almost flipped out because we literally we're shoved at least 20 feet backwards... spooky feeling.. haaha... gotta love Pasadena read more

I'd give zero stars, same amount as the number of ghosts you're likely to see; however, four stars for just goofing off with friends and spending time together going on silly adventures. I looked up the explanation of places like Gravity Hill online. Science always ruins your fun! read more

My boyfriend and I drove all the way from Irvine to visit gravity hill and "ghost hunt". We arrived around 6 pm. We put baby powder on the front of the car and everything... sadly there were no handprints (surprise surprise!), but it was pretty cool to put the car in neutral and see/feel us going back up the hill. Because we went at 6pm, we had to keep stopping the experiment and driving/pulling over so we don't block traffic, but it was still fairly cool. We went back around and did it a few times. If you're looking for a truly "scary" ghost experience, I definitely wouldn't recommend this - not unless you're super easily spooked and wanna go at, like, midnight or something. But if you just wanna try out the car going backwards trick, give it a try! If you've got nothing better to do, it's a fun little adventure. Oh and bring a water bottle if you're gonna use the baby powder - not to experiment with (unless you want to!), but to splatter all over the front of your car to get some of the baby powder off when you're done. read more

Put your car in neutral and see it roll uphill ... Kind of insane! Worth the experience!

ZERO stars.... Went up there excited to see ghosts or actually witness the car go up the hill by itself & instead the car kept going back down when In neutral, plus there was nothing scary or paranormal about the location. The views up there are nice though! read more

Alright so I'm going to give you two more spots where the phenomenon occurs. Over in Burbank, ( if I am not mistaking the city ) heading North on N Hollywood Way, under the 5 Freeway Bridge (exit 149). If you are heading North on Hollywood Way in order to take the 5 Freeway North. You will go under the freeway's bridge and make a left onto the Ramp. Alright. If you are fortunate to get the red light and you are one of the first 6 cars. You may experience the Gravity Hill effect. Make sure no cars are behind you. Turn off the engine, and keep the car on neutral. Second and this is more scarier than the Pasadena one. Mentioned here. Why is it scarier? Lets say midnight, up in the mountains, right in the middle of a cemetery. Its called Glen Heaven Memorial Park. Now, its been ages since I've gone up there. I don't quite remember if is on the side of Kagel Canyon Rd. or Lopez Canyon Rd. but the grave stones are right there as your car moves on its own. If you have the guts to go and explore the area, let us know the exact spot. Take the 210 North. Get off on Foothill Blvd. Exit 8. You know just google this address: ( 13070 Lopez Canyon Rd, South Antelope Valley, CA ) read more

If you live outside of the San Gabriel Valley, it's not worth coming to Altadena just for Gravity Hill. I'm sorry, but it's an optical illusion. There are no ghosts lurking in the shadows. There may be some wild animals, but that's about it. Furthermore, it's very irritating to the people who live next to Gravity Hill to have young thrill-seekers shining their car lights in their windows. Anyone who finds this place frightening needs to get out more. read more

Definitely an optical illusion, (as opposed to being haunted as urban legend suggest) but it does seem like you're moving uphill once you put your car in neutral and pump the gas a little bit to get yourself going. Even so, you're only moving about 1-2mph once you get going. If you're in the Altadena area, might be worth checking out, if only to say you've been, but not worth the drive all by itself. Minimized my losses by checking out City Hall in Pasadena which was worth the visit. But if you want to go, here's how I got there... exit the 210 freeway at Lake Ave. and head north. Once you get into the residential area north of Altadena Drive, you can take any number of sides street to the east, but I made a right on Delores Dr. It eventually turns into Maiden Lane. Once you get to Rubio Canyon Rd., make a right. It'll eventually wind around and turn into Loma Alta Drive. "Gravity Hill" is about a 1-2 block stretch just before you hit Sunnyoaks Circle. Should only take you about 5 minutes, or so, to get there once you turn onto Delores. read more
