01.15.22 historic and beautiful work of art that draws many suicides
May A.

Historic and beautiful work of art bridge [Pasadena] The Colorado Street Bridge is a beautiful arch bridge. This 2-lane bridge rides parallel along with Highway 134 in Pasadena. The roadway has suicide barriers (more on this shortly). The vintage street lights along the bridge are pretty (like the Urban Light attraction in LACMA). We drove over the bridge from Colorado Blvd West. We did not get a chance to walk the bridge on foot. Maybe next time on another SoCal trip. The Colorado Street Bridge was added in the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. And no wonder this bridge looked familiar it was featured in one of the series of Full House "Leap of Faith" where Jessie and Becky were seen in a bungee jumping scene... it was also featured in the movie La La Land where Sebastian and Mia took an evening stroll across the bridge. Yup! This bridge has made it to Hollywood. We drove to the Desiderio Neighborhood Park to get a better view of the bridge from underneath. Maannn, that's high! We spent some time here, there are benches, trails, night lighting and bathrooms, it's a nice place for a stroll... the bridge earned the name Suicide Bridge because there have been concerns about people contemplating jumping... many were successful, over 20 others were talked down. Ahh, so sad. A 10-foot high fencing was installed along the bridge to deter jumpers. Of course, with stories of suicides, ghost activities were sure to come up. We did some amateur "ghost hunting" underneath the bridge, well, not really, but we captured some anomalies on the SLS Ghost App... more when the lights started to come on at dusk (they draw energy from electricity). I love it here at night

I don't think it's scary and you guys need to be nicer to the spirits. I left a flower and suggest practicing respect and decency rather than treating them like an attraction also to the city of pasadena put some trash cans in would ya

While everyone else is spending quality time with family on a Sunday evening, I spend mine venturing outdoors for my next photo adventure. The Colorado Street Bridge is a historic concrete arch bridge spanning the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, California. It's total length is 1,486 feet with 150 feet in height. The bridge curves over the river bed, giving the bridge a rather unique perspective as you drive over it. Along with the lamps located at regular intervals, the bridge has a very romantic and old charm look from a distance. This bridge has been featured in movies and news. Sadly, this bridge has its ups and down since its inception. Today, the Colorado Street is now renamed to Colorado boulevard. Overall, I liked this bridge for its beautiful architecture and photo op location. I highly recommend you drive by or walk this bridge.

I've driven over this bridge numerous times but thanks to #yelpslocaladventurechallenge @yelpla @yelpsgv @ieyelp I took an early morning stroll to check out the amazing view. This historic bridge was built in 1912. The city put up an additional fence to discourage people from jumping off the bridge. I have always heard that the nik name for the Colorado Street Bridge was suicide bridge. Unfortunately, because of the extra fencing it was difficult to see the beautiful view. There is a small sidewalk with guard rails on each side so you can walk safely across and not worry about getting hit by a car. Every August Pasadena Heritage hosts a benefit called the Colorado Street Party where guests can stroll down the bridge and sample food and drink from various establishments in Pasadena. This year the event was virtual. Hopefully, next year I can attend in person.

Visited as part of the #localadventurechallenge and I'm so glad I did! I've always wanted to see the bridge up close, having always seen it from a distance on the freeway. Easiest way to get there is to plug "Defenders Park" in your GPS. I parked in street parking at Defenders Park. The signs say 2 hour working from 9am-6pm daily. It's right next to the entrance of the bridge and easy to walk to...very flat and obvious. The bridge has tall fencing up on all sides due to a history of suicides. There's also a suicide hotline sign at the entrance. All of this lends a sort of sad, ethereal, surreal atmosphere as you're walking along the bridge. I found myself contemplating what it means to truly live. It's beautiful scenery and a good place to get some steps in if you're looking for a new spot. I took my new Olympus camera with me and found it to be a great place to get in some camera practice too!

Well I finally see this bridge in person. I always hear and watch stories about this bridge how it got its name..."suicide bridge". They are weird abs down right creepy / spooky stories. In fact , one of the shows I watched was a group of young guys riding their motorcycles around, one had his go pro camera recording the whole ride where thought he saw a figure of a girl smiling at her and having to turn around to look for her, she disappeared in no time. That's down right creepy and scary. Anyway, being from Northern California, not familiar with Pasadena, I almost missed my turn to get in this street from the exit off the freeway. Really in general, driving around here in Southern California can be frustrating if you miss your exit or turn. Me and my wife crossed the bridge with our vehicle, looking to see any parking off the side to see if we can walk across. We ended up going to desiderio park down below the bridge where we took a few pictures. I couldn't locate the stairs or path to go up so we can cross the bridge. Maybe tomorrow we'll come back. Anyone local can give me some direction ? It started to rain so we cut our time and head out. Again I may return tomorrow and find the stairs to walk the bridge across.

A Pasadena landmark, Colorado Bridge. So often, I remember telling whoever I was in the car with to take the bridge (especially in the evening driving). It's so pretty with the light posts. This is my first time strolling the bridge, but I felt it was the perfect way to end Easter Sunday, after our meal. Sadly, there is now a tall fence due to accidents and suicides. Well walking across the bridge I noticed they have different fencing examples for residents to vote on. I hope an attractive option is chosen that suits the bridges style. This will not be my last time walking this bridge. Can't wait to return!

For sure you have been driving here going to Pasadena. This bridge is built in 1912, but it has a sad historical records of deaths. However, people of the city are helping to stop that. Now, you can see lovers locks on the fences. Let's change the reference if this bridge with love. You can walk there! The view is beautiful! And the architect is really gorgeous.

Please don't jump

Old school since 1913. This bridge is famous for all the wrong reasons - people jumping to their deaths. It's a beautiful landmark and it's now partially ruined because of the ugly anti-climbing fence running on both sides of the street.

Maricel J.

Unfortunately it's not really worth coming here to take pictures anymore, the beautiful bridge is now fenced up and it's not really picture worthy. It gave me that Erie feeling knowing people come here to end their life, sad... I'm glad they put the sign up, but also sad we can't enjoy the bridge. Glad I came here in the past to take great pictures. Hopefully, in the near future they will take down the fence. The bridge still looks amazing from a long distance.

Historic Engineering Landmark

The bridges in Hawaii do not look like this. Ours look rather plain in comparison. This one has antique looking street lights and ornately shaped arches and fancy details. There seems to be nothing under it like a stream or river. It was built in the early 1913 and is a Historical Engineering Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by Waddell and Harrington in Kansas, Missouri. This 1486 foot long bridge was in several television shows, including "The Amazing Race". It is also known as the Arroyo Seco Bridge and Suicide Bridge because many people have ended their lives there. Other reviewers have recommended walking or jogging across and even sitting in one of the niches alongside it. Some day, I'll walk it!

William G.

Sometimes when I head to Pasadena, I take this bridge toward the downtown area. This bridge is a nice small drive. It runs above the Arroyo Seco Channel, and is located between Glendale and Pasadena. It hugs the 134, running almost parallel to it. This bridge is one lane each way, and has a pedestrian walkway on either side. Bicyclists sometimes share the road with motorists, although there usually is enough space as to not slow anyone down. I like the bridge's style, and plan on cycling down this place at nighttime.

I'm a loyalty member and one of the perks is a voucher on your birthday to be used for refreshments. We went to the "secret movie" last night which was terrific. Because the voucher was only good for 30 days I wanted to use it before it expired which is 30 days after your birthday. My birthday is April 12 so we were well within that time frame. The bar code wouldn't scan. Odd because our tickets scanned as they always do with zero issues. The wait became uncomfortable after two employees were unable to scan it and called a manager who still couldn't scan it. The voucher was for $15 and I wish that they had decided early on to just go ahead and process it rather than making us stand there and wait which they eventually did. C'mon guys, don't make this birthday perk uncomfortable for the guest, fix your system.

We did purchase beverages today due to heat wave to stay hydrated. They gave those Coke machines that give you at least 100 options with a touchscreen. The recliner seats were very comfortable and due to the 1.5 hour run time, nobody had to sneak out for a restroom break. It was a nutty, completely bonkers film and yet internally consistent and thought provoking. Excellent music, acting, and directing. I guess partly because I had zero expectations, I laughed aloud multiple times and was thoroughly entertained. It's what I would call a surrealistic dramedy maybe? This movie theater is just a fun venue, smaller than a Regal or AMC so therefore never crowded feeling. On a weeknight there's no traffic to go there in 30 min...

And how super intense and cool (figuratively and literally) it was! Total about 10mi from the top of Lake - Echo Mountain - Castle Canyon trail - Inspiration Point - Sam Merrill trail - Echo Mountain and back down to Lake. DEFINITELY a strenuous hike and would highly recommend hiking poles, sunscreen, water, and snacks! The view is incredible, especially with tons of fresh snow everywhere. Hiked this early March 2023 and the Castle Canyon trail leading off from Echo Mountain (a decent hike in its own right) is pretty challenging, if not a bit brutal in some areas: slippery snow, downed trees and bushes blocking the path, and a heavy incline. Again, highly recommend poles. Once at Inspiration Point the view is phenomenal. The Pacific Ocean, Palos Verdes, Catalina Island, and even Anaheim and Irvine are all visible from the top, and downtown LA too of course. Lots of picnic benches and photo-op-worthy view finders for major Southern California sites. Gorgeous San Gabriel mountains in the background. The Sam Merrill trail leading down the backside of the mountain (and then curving back around to the south/west) is much more tame (but still a bit precarious with 2+ feet of snow) and very sun-exposed all the way back to Echo Mountain. All in all probably one of the more butt-kicking Los Angeles hike. Takes about 4-5hrs round trip depending on your pace.

Me and my husband started around 7:30am and finished the whole hike around 1pm at a steady pace with about an hour break when we got to Inspiration Point. The hike from Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain was a breeze for us, but the hike from there to Inspiration was a whole other story. I recommend wearing long pants as the second half of the hiking path isn't as clear and pretty narrow on some parts. We took our time and treaded lightly but still got some minor scratches on our legs from all of the branches and leaves. My husband started getting irritated from walking into all of the spider webs lol. Not sure if the actual hike was 2 miles from Echo Mountain because it felt so much longer than that. We started getting really tired near the end from all the incline. We almost gave up until my husband saw the view of Inspiration Point. Once we got there, the views made it all worth it! Would we do it again? Maaaaaybe lol.

There is also a lovely grassy area in the center where you can sit, relax, or have a small picnic. Geese walk freely around the gardens, and colorful parrots fly overhead, adding even more charm to the atmosphere. In April, the garden looks especially stunning -- the pergola and trees are in full bloom (I wish I remembered the names of those gorgeous flowers!), and the whole place feels alive and magical. Honestly, this garden is beautiful in any season of the year. You can come here with dogs, which is a big plus, but it's important to respect the property rules: pets must be on a leash, owners are responsible for cleanup, professional photography requires a permit, and activities like skateboarding, drinking alcohol, or organized sports events are not allowed. These rules help preserve the calm and cleanliness of the space. There is also a secondary school located on the property, which adds to the unique character of the place. Parking-wise, we were able to find free street parking nearby without any issues. This is a perfect spot to slow down, enjoy nature, and escape the city noise for a while. Highly recommended for a peaceful walk or a quiet moment surrounded by beauty.

I knew that a few house fronts used in popular films were located in the area, including the famed Michael Myers home from the "Halloween" horror franchise. The home was rescued from demolition and moved to its current location, where it now serves as an office building behind the South Pasadena light rail station. Upon arrival, the sky was almost dark so everything was perfectly spooky. My initial plan was to walk around the outside of the home & post the video on TikTok. But as I made my way toward the corner where the home is situated, I noticed a small film crew with a couple tripods. I figured they were recording something for social media too, as it's not unusual to see that type of thing in L.A.. But I received an extra-special surprise immediately after seeing the famed Michael Myers mask atop another tripod. A young man dressed in Myers' signature coveralls appeared & told me he was shooting footage for his TikTok page with the group I saw earlier.
