Our experience was less than positive so we decided on the way back to stay at the Holiday inn in Hillsville. This was definitely the correct decision. It is not a large Holiday Inn but it is quite comfortable and clean. The parking lot has very few handicapped parking spots but with having a nice drop off location at the front door is an alternative to assist the handicapped customers. With the snow and ice that was taking place my husband opted for a parking spot that would be away from any vehicles that may slip on the ice. We initially checked in to whatever room the front desk assigned. After checking out the room my husband went back to the front desk to inquire if there were any handicapped rooms available. Since we had not used the room the reassignment was readily handled. Our new room was quite comfortable and easy to navigate with the spacing and hand rails. We learned in making the request that this hotel has four handicapped rooms available. The complimentary breakfast was quite good and there were plenty of cafe style tables to sit at. There was also a high top table with stools for people that prefer that seating option. In addition to the breakfast we were told there is coffee/tea available in this area 24/7. We definitely will make this our go to hotel when traveling this route to the coast of NC.

We had the feather pillows switched out since two of us are allergic. We had a suite with two queen beds and a sofa. The sofa folds into a bed, if needed. I went with the suite for the extra room and a sitting area. The have a small well appointed exercise room as well as an indoor pool that is ADA compliant. Usually, they have a great breakfast. Unfortunately, their stove was out of commission and could only offer bag breakfast. The bags contained cereal, muffin, and a bottle of water. Milk and apple or orange juice upon request.

Our normal route and hotel in Asheville was not possible due to damage from hurricane Helene. Upon our arrival at the hotel an employee handled the check+in of our reservation. She was not very welcoming and kept conversation to a minimum. Since we normally stay at a Holiday inn I wasn't sure of what was part of the overnight stay. I had to ask if there was a complimentary breakfast and then had to ask the hours. Since we hadn't eaten all day we also wanted to go back out to pick up dinner. We asked about the location of a Subway Restaurant and she said it was twelve miles on the other side of the Interstate. Next ,"what else can you recommend'? No answer. We went to our room and decided to make do with drinks and snacks we had brought with us. The bed was extremely high and if I was sitting on it my feet were at least a foot off the ground. The mattress creaked and made all sorts of noise if I rolled over. If I got too close to the center of the bed there was a dip that you fell into. I also noticed several pink drip stains on the bottom sheet and towards the foot of the bed a long black hair. I decided to sleep in my clothes so as to not make contact with the unknown. In the morning I had to pass on a shower because the only handicap grab bar was mounted inside the shower/tub on the far wall. There was nothing to hold onto to assist in climbing over the tub wall. Breakfast was minimal and the employee working the breakfast buffet said she would be putting out more sausage. She also volunteered to refill the muffins. Neither thing happened in the half hour that we waited. My husband had a plain bagel and cup of coffee. I had a cup of coffee, a cup of orange juice, and a banana. Not much breakfast to write a glowing review of. (This was at 7:45 am and the breakfast was supposed to be available from 6 am - 9 am) I did watch a later customer make a waffle. Needless to say on our return trip we will find someplace else to stay. Me thinks not on staying here again!

This is probably the nastiest hotel I've ever stayed in. I don't say that from a position of…read moresuperiority or wealth. I grew up in the same kind of places where people cook meth in trailers and the most common fauna would be roaches. So, I'm familiar, and to a degree, comfortable with low brow situations. I really don't recommend coming here. It's cheap tho so if you need somewhere to do your lewd and lascivious acts or need a place to commit general misdemeanors and felonies.. then look no further. However, if you prefer not to worry about the possibly contracting some sort of infection via contact with your general surroundings then I'd suggest you look elsewhere. A few other things: I hope you're a smoker here because you're getting a smoking room even if you ask for a non-smoking. This place has a roach problem. Just checking out this room I found roaches basically in every place I looked. (The only reason I ended up staying here is because my truck broke down and was basically stranded out here. Had there been any other place I could have walked to from the truck stop I would have.) Expect of this place to be untouched by housekeeping. I'm fairly certain that the bedsheets hadn't been changed. Also, I would wear shower shoes in there shower. I've seen truck stop showers that had been kept cleaner. I would just avoid this place. However, if you can't, like I, then expect to be in a situation of low expectations.

Neither my husband, nor myself changed. We left our suitcases in the car and slept on top of the covers, do not recommend this place. Stay far away it is disgusting.

What to do if you have way too many kitchy dolls? Open a motel and place them in every single room…read more I entered my room and thought at first that someone else was already staying here, but no, the large baby on the bed was not real, nor was the little girl standing in the corner. All were made of porcelain, as were the many other knickknacks arranged through out the room. The bible was conspicuously left open on the table, as if God was entertaining all his wonderful porcelain creations. For those who are afraid of dolls, this is not the place to go. But for $30 dollars, it has so far been more than worth it. I am scared though because the place is pet friendly and fleas and I have a very bad relationship. Also no pool- no breakfast- no frills, except eccentricity. Update: No fleas! And, I went back with my family. My mom and brother got a kick out of it, and though last time I stayed I broke the prong of a decorative fork, no one seemed to remember.

Sheets fresh. She said: For the price, I think it was an excellent deal. The room was decorated with bears and dolls, but was very homey. Our night felt much like staying in someone's guestroom. My thought is that for $30-40 (depending on the night), you get to stay in a clean, comfortable room with TV. No, there weren't hair dryers or a continental breakfast, but for the money we saved, we ate a huge breakfast at Denny's and it was "still" less expensive than if we had stayed at the Days Inn. Do note, though, that the checkout time is 10:30am. If you have to checkout late, there is an additional charge. I would absolutely stay here again.

She emphasizes that you cannot get ice, she charges extra for dogs but not extra for the bed bugs pictured below to share the room with you. The ac didn't work and the room was a boiling 97 degrees. We stayed here due to a desperate plea to get off the interstate after the storm last night. Never again. Plus she charges RIDICULOUS prices for all of these luxuries. Plus no breakfast, coffee or anything else included. You can pay less and stay at a sub par days inn and you should. Go that extra mile to avoid this place at all costs. I gave her one star simply because she brought a broom out and helped me clear my car to leave out of this awful place. Other then that she emphasized that "sure I could stay because I'm lucky she had a person cancel, and then asked if I needed one or two beds" yeah seems like you ONLY had one opening. LUCKY ME! Never again. Disgusting.
