I have been a faithful customer of Grassi's for 5+ years. They've installed 3 systems for me and serviced 4. I am a small business owner in town and don't take negative reviews lightly. As of today, Grassi has lost me as a loyal customer. Over the past 6 months we've had consistent issues with a couple systems (5+ call outs to 2 properties). To their credit, since the units are under warranty they say they will warranty the parts. Even still we are at $1,700+ costs thus far. Today, our tenant was cold and turned on the heater. It is 60 degrees outside. Grassi is charging for another callout as the units that they worked on within the month threw another code. Their technician, Cody, called us and told us that this is an operator error, blaming our tenant for their machine malfunction, as these are "not designed to heat when the temperature outside is above 60". These are the only heat source for the house as recommended and installed by Grassi. What is our tenant supposed to do? I don't believe this is an engineering issue as I have more faith in Carrier (the brand installed) or my tenant, who deserves to be comfortable. My take is that this was either poorly installed or poorly recommended. When asking more questions Cody, the technician, told us that we knew nothing about refrigeration and hung up on us. read more

We have been fans of Grassi Refridgeration for years and can't imagine going anywhere else. They replaced my mother's furnace in 2009 and her air conditioner in 2018. Chris and Jimmy were out for the annual tuneup of her furnace. And while mom appreciates that "They aren't hard to look at!" and I am also reminded why we enjoy working with them so much; affordable, fast, friendly, reliable and safe. Safe- During this pandemic, we have to take all of the necessary precautions for my elderly mother. Chris and Jimmy put on their masks before coming to the door, and kept them on the entire time that we met with them. Reliable- The techs always show up in the window of time we schedule, and they give us sound advice and recommendations to keep my mother's system running efficiently. Friendly- Everyone, from Ashley and the other staff in the office to the techs who show up, are always extremely friendly and courteous, so we feel that we can never ask too many questions. Fast- I called ahead to schedule today's tune up from my home in Portland last week, thinking they would be scheduling days or weeks out. But, I was informed that they could actually do it that day! The company I use in Portland was scheduling 6 weeks out. Affordable- The cost of today's tuneup was less than half what I pay in Portland, and extremely reasonable. Because I live 4 hours away, it is comforting to know that the team of Grassi Refridgeration is always available to help my elderly mother when issues arise. She called them out in June when her air conditioner wasn't working and the tech discovered the only issue was that she had turned off the air conditioner at the fuse box by mistake. He kindly informed her of the issue but also checked the rest of the unit out to be safe. What more could we ask for? read more

We bought a gas fireplace from Grassi several years ago and we switched companies for maintenance because the Grassi was expensive and we were not impressed with the customer service. Today we went into seek help with our malfunctioning, remote, and the employee we walked to was patronizing, unhelpful, and gave us erroneous information. read more

Interestingly the response from Grassi did not address our concerns about their operating procedures. We recently heard about an incident where Grassi sent a repairman who attempted to enter a residence without notifying the customer in advance, as they promised. Luckily someone was home and denied them access and they lost the job. read more

Very difficult to schedule services with and are unorganized with billing. Have receipts from payment over a month ago and still receiving emails and letters stating we are past due for payment and are now being charged late fees despite already paying our bill in full read more

My mom had them put in a new air conditioner in June of 2018 at her home. Yesterday she came home in 92 degree weather to no air and some lights not working... Mom called me and I told her to flip her breakers and the lights were working again. However still no air? She called Grassi at 5:45 pm and they said they would send some on over now. Manny arrived in about 30 minutes and started looking at the cooling system. During his inspection he saw the air breaker switch was not all the way engaged, he re-flipped it and the air came back on. He tested the unit with the vents open and the cooling temp at 75. The house had heated up to 86 degrees by now. With in 15 minutes the house was cooled down to 75 degrees! When my mom asked for the bill, he said , "No Change, we just installed it last year". I was a little leery regarding working with a company with only one review that was negative, but the date on the old review was from an incident a very long time ago (over 10 years). And it seemed unlikely to be a very good indicator of the company today. I had a very old furnace removed, bought a new furnace, and had it installed by Grassi in my elderly parents home. The representatives from the company were very respectful and professional, they completed their work quickly and professionally, and they gave us several different options. The cost of the equipment was very competitive and has already resulted in a substantial monthly savings on parents energy bills. I would strongly recommend giving Grassi a call if you are needing a new heating or cooling system read more

Absolutely fantastic service! My heater went out in December 2015 and a new heater was installed the next day, completed while I was at work! My home was nice and toasty when I came home from work that night! This summer of 100+ degree temperatures was really making my old a/c unit work hard. I hesitated calling for service, for fear of being told I'd need a new unit, but couldn't stand my home roasting at 80+ degrees. The tech came out and cleaned my a/c unit thoroughly, and my home has been nice and cool ever since! Very professional, quick and reasonably priced. I can't say enough good things about Grassi, except THANK YOU!!! read more

We had Grassi install our new furnace and air conditioning unit after our home owners insurance used them for a service call earlier in the year. They were extremely unprofessional during the installation process for multiple reasons, including: -Did not provide requested bid with tax/final estimated cost even though this was requested via email and over the phone. -Big miscommunication about time of install and refused to apologize, saying we didn't hear the time. A date was set, but no time. When you have to plan not to be at work for the install and are waiting to hear from them to plan that time but don't hear back, then have workers ringing your doorbell and calling at 7:55am inquiring why they can't start working, that's not right. -Very little communication from on site workers who also felt they had the ability to use/access other areas of our house outside of installation sites specifically to use the bathroom without asking, which was left in a much more "used" state than before. -Left (what used to be) clean laundry strewn around laundry room that is now covered in soot/dirt due to lack of clean up after install. The laundry was in a hamper and hanging - came to find it moved and left out from where it was before. Storage items were left out randomly. No one asked me (who was there the whole time) to move things, clear space, etc. they just moved it and left it for us to clean up and deal with. -Metal scraps from install left strewn around site with the lack of care in clean up. Still finding scraps and shards the next day. This is unacceptable in the first place and now has put our dog at risk. -Water heater was shut off during install. You would assume they would turn it back on. Definitely not turned back on. -No explanation was given about the install itself and manuals/guides were found strewn on the floor of our laundry room and left on counter in the kitchen randomly. -The crew with carpet coverings left an hour or so before the last worker. Additional dirt, etc., visible enough to make gray/black footprints was tracked on our carpet and stairs. It was not cleaned up - was only offered to be cleaned up if I could provide cleaning materials the day of and this was the only thing they offered to come back and "clean" the next day. Finally, the representative from Grassi only became more defensive after I expressed these concerns right before the last worker left and when my wife called again this morning to let them know this was not acceptable. Here's the deal - I understand this company has been in Walla Walla for a significant time and appears to have a monopoly in this business. However, this does not give them the right to treat customers poorly and expect their small town reputation to be enough to supercede their actual quality of work and customer service. I strongly recommend avoiding this business if you can. It's too bad the people working there now don't have a very good understanding that small town reputation can go both ways. Poor product/technical service is one thing... Poor/rude customer service on top of it is another. read more

I love the new furnace and heat pump installed by Grassi June 6 this year. One BIg problem! Now I have a nasty smell coming from the wood that they cut under my home coming through the vents when the heat is on. Working with them has been just as unpleasant! I've been told it isn't possible, made to feel like I was making it up. I've learned during this ordeal they did not have a permit so no inspection and the smell is definitely coming from a breach in sealing and now the bottom line is I can pay someone else to fix it. After paying them $5,000 I don't think so. Hoping for a happy ending, but wonder how much more stress I will have to endure. I would not use Grassi again! read more

My Lennox "Complete Heat" system was initially installed and serviced by Grassi Refrigeration and Heating . My system broke down once or twice a year costing me a total of $1265.00. Grassi charged me for their fruitless repair attempts as well as for their travel time to and from my home for unnecessary parts. My system was apparently a lemon and was subject to a replacement refund by the manufacturer but Grassi didn't tell me that. So the unit continued to break down with multiple issues. When I tried to negotiate with them about their charges they slapped a lein on my house forcing me to pay in full plus their attorney fees or they would take away my home. I met with Davin and the owner Arnold but they refused to negotiate with me. Grassi has such huge presence in Walla Walla that no attorney in town would give me advise. I will never do service with Grassi Refrigeration again. I found Eclipse Heating and Cooling and they resolved my heater problems. read more

I had great experience with grassi in years past so of course I expected a repeat of my previous job. I first called them out to get my irrigation well working. the guy came out and was very upbeat as to the ease of getting the job. he stated that he couldn't see the job going over $600. this thrilled me as I was expecting a figure around $2000. I had a maximum budget of $2500-3000. after a small change in the meter requirement, the gentleman said there would be a small increase in price....he would not give me an exact figure. they had done me right 20 years previous so I was not concerned. once the electrical was hooked up (new meter head with a 100 amp panel....conduit, wiring, & sub panel was existing), there was no water pumping. the breaker blew when switched on. so grassi called in their subcontractor to pull the pump. I repeatedly asked for a price and made very clear how much money I had and that I could not afford more. the gentleman continued to skirt the issue giving me no direct answer. he told my nephew that he felt it would be around $3000. it took less than 2 hours to pull the pump and replace it. I received a non itemized bill almost $5000 a few weeks later. I was told the price was fair and there would be no compromise. I ask for an itemized bill. a month later I got a sort of one. descriptions were vague without dates of descriptions. 2 days later I received a threatening letter stating that I pay immediately or legal action would be taken against me. I met with owner John Davin who gave no compromise. when I said I would give poor reviews he stated that they had been around a long time and nothing i said would impact them. now the equipment and installation is top notch, I have no complaints there. but due to the deceptive actions taken to avoid telling me the costs until I could have my assets attached, I will NEVER do business with Grassi again. others who had electrical and far larger pumps at far deeper depths replaced at the same time for less money. When we first bought our house, we needed to update our electrical. Grassi quoted the job at around $4000 but by the end had exceeded $7000. When we asked to speak about the additional charges we had received, the electrician became agitated and domineering and we were threatened with a lien and an even larger bill. The electrician stated that if we were to delve into the costs that "there were a lot of things we did off the books and those charges would be added on." He actually threatened to INCREASE the bill if he had to explain why I was charged nearly double from the initial quote. Some additional work had been done but not to the tune of $3000. Not even close. As I moved into the the new home I noticed that only one electrician was actually working the job site while the other would show up for a few minutes to check on the site before disappearing. I assumed it was to work another job site, however I was billed for two sets of man-hours during this two-week period. How does a person prove something like this? I didn't have documentation of my own and I didn't have video evidence of their comings and goings. I was overwhelmed and eventually buckled to paying their extortion fees. If you have to use Grassi for anything, I suggest closely documenting how many people are working and for how long. I found their practices dishonest and unprofessional. It was my first home and I must have seemed like easy prey at the time. I paid, probably like every poor sucker ends up paying. Its a pretty solid racket these folks have going. read more
