Lovely shop on the Rockland high street with any kind of gift you can think of! I really enjoyed going through everything to shop for holiday gifts (and also for myself). Prices are a bit on the high side, but it does feel good to support a local business. While not all the items were unique, there were plenty of options from local artists and brands. The Grasshopper Shop is my favorite place to visit while i'm in Rockland. I come to Maine about 3-4 times a year and I never miss an opportunity to shop there! The staff is very kind and there is such a wide variety of gift options from clothes to spa accessories to art supplies and more! Really fun and quirky shop in downtown Rockland. It has a variety of items (almost overwhelming) and was an absolute joy to browse for about half an hour while we were in town. Service is very nice and they let you leave things at the counter so you can continue to browse. I will say some of the prices were a little too much over my budget, especially on the cookware but I did find some must buy pieces including a cat clock and mother of pearl earrings. I loved their selection of Burt's Bees products but also they were pretty expensive based on prices in other stores. I had a really fun time walking around and looking at all the nicely done pottery pieces and quirky home decorating choices so I will for sure stop in if we find ourselves in the area again as I had my eye on a few more cool items! read more

I just wanted to say I love the Grasshopper Store In Rockland. I can always peruse the baby section and find great gifts. The kitchen \home section is full of unique gadgets. Today, I went there and the grumpiest saleswomen waited on me. She should have stayed home because she was pretty unhappy. I should say another person helped me & she couldn't have been nicer. It is very sad that this is downtown Rockland's only store that carries a wide variety of merchandise. The offerings are varied and the companies represented are generally good. They have a little bit of everything, at slightly higher prices. However, the sales people always make me feel like a criminal. I have been in the store during the summers for years, and for the past 5 years, I try to avoid if at all possible. The mature woman with grey hair, who I assume is the manager, is just plain unfriendly. I recently bought a gift that was on sale, and she glowered at the salesperson who offered to wrap it for me. It is amazing to me that the company owner continues to employ her. read more

The Grasshopper Shop is the huge kitchenware/clothing/stationery/gift/random tourist goods shop in downtown Rockland. I walked by a few times before I decided to go in-- I would usually have totally avoided it but they claimed to have local artisan goods so I decided to check it out. About 90% of the store could be purchased anywhere in America. Plates, glasses, galoshes, shapeless old lady clothes, etc. But there were a few gems that make this store worthwhile. I picked up a handcrafted ceramic mug, and considered some cute dishtowels and nautical silverware. Probably a good place to get "Maine" gifts for your whole family while you visit. read more

Best gift store in Rockland. They have a huge amount of toys, kids clothing, women's clothing, cosmetics, gifts, and so much more. Great prices and wonderful service. When we were there they had an extra 20% off everything in the store. It is a huge store and everyone is so friendly and nice. You can easily spend an hour in the store without a problem. The store is well organized and very neat. It is just a cool shop. I love it and wish I lived closer to it. read more

Treated terribly every time I go in! I haven't been to the grasshopper shop in about a year because every I'm there they follow me around like I'm going to shoplift. Today was no different. We decided to go in because my son needed gloves. The moment we entered an older lady who is an employee followed me the whole time. And just an FYI I'm wearing a fur coat and Celine sunglasses, so it's not as if we looked like a threat. My son started playing with a toy and about 5 minutes later the lady came up to us and rudely said, " Are you going to buy that? The sticker has fallen off and if you don't buy this you cannot play with it." She watched my 4 year old son put it back and we left immediately. EVERY TIME I'm in this store I leave feeling upset. EVERY TIME! The same thing has been said by many people I know as well. That employees follow them as if they're shoplifting. The store has some nice things but the people that work there are HORRIBLE! If I could give zero stars I would. Oh and today is customer appreciation day there!!! read more

Based on their advertising, I thought this would be a fun place for the family to check out while in downtown Rockland for the afternoon. Not so much...I was picking some gifts for people back home and my husband and daughter were looking at the little wind up toy display. One of the clerks first told them they needed to be careful not to over-wind the toys...then took the display toys away so they couldn't try them! When I mentioned to the clerk that her behavior was rude and made my daughter feel bad when she was doing nothing wrong (she's 7 and has played with and not broken many wind-up toys in her time), she had the nerve to tell me that unsupervised children cost them a lot in damaged inventory and there were tags from toys on the floor. I pointed out that Dad was with her and would not have permitted her to cause damage to the merchandise...and said she was sorry if she made someone feel bad, but how was she was supposed to know it wasn't them who pulled tags off things and dropped them on the floor. WHAT?! My advice is to spend your money at the many stores that do seem to truly appreciate their customers. We went down the street to Planet Toy where kids are actually welcome, and she was encouraged by the friendly clerk to try out the display items! We ended up spend our money here and having a good time, too. read more

Great assortment of gift items but poor taste in merchandising vulgar socks displayed At eye level for young children to see. They should either get rid of these or move them up to a more appropriate place higher up out of sight . I mentioned it to the clerk and she did not seemed responsive. A friend of mine had also gone to the same store two weeks ago and made the same suggestion and they had not changed anything. Really hope they can pull it together this is just inappropriate. read more
