I want to start by saying that the honey and I come here often. We've tried multiple items on the menu and we come all year round Food is always spot on, plenty served for each entree Service is pretty standard most days and some days it's definitely better. Ambiance is great if you come in on a slower day / time, some days, especially during spring break are chaotic, long waits and very busy Show up early, enjoy some good house coffee and a breakfast taco

Didn't get any photos of our breakfast but the coffee. The food and staff was all wonderful. Everyone was kind and the food and coffee was delicious and came out hot. Portions were huge. My 3 year old had the kids pancake with scrambled eggs, my husband loved the crab cake Benedict with hash browns and I enjoyed the bananas foster pancakes and eggs. The coffee was hot and not too sweet!

We had a delightful breakfast at Grapevine Cafe during our stay in SPI. We were really only looking for coffee, but sat for breakfast anyway ... when in Rome! There is a separate entrance if coffee only is what you want! So glad we stayed... Jesse was our server, did a great job. A couple of lattes started us off (3 shots espresso/ 20 oz for me!), the coffee was delicious, and served HOT, as we like it! Our lunch was avocado toast and a shrimp omelette ... both were delicious! All ingredient were super fresh, served fresh! A very good breakfast, we'd definitely go back! Highly recommend!

I ordered a some drinks for the table (coffees, smoothies, and orange juice and a water) after being seated (no wait at all, the place was not busy). After 20 minutes I had received about half the drinks and had not seen a waitress at all. I eventually had to go track someone to get the check for the drinks I had received, having never gotten the rest of the drinks or a chance to order food. Again, the place was not busy, there was no wait to be seated, and I counted four waiters working 7 tables including ours. The waitress did, however, comp the three drinks we received.

We came for Labor Day weekend, this place was a 5 minute walk from our condo & it was great! The restaurant it pretty big in the inside. We got seated within the first 10 minutes, I suggest getting on the waitlist Ordered the chicken & waffles so good 10/10 My friend got avocado on toast 8/10 (egg became too runny, was hard to eat toward the end) Also got the Huevo a la Mexican with chorizo 9/10 (it was more chorizo based than pico de gallo) Can't wait to be back on the island and try this place again

I've been eating brunch here for the longest time and honestly it's probably the number one place that I love to eat breakfast while I'm on the island. It's so delicious and they have really great coffee.. The service is very good and the restaurants decorated really nicely. I had these huge tacos for breakfast.

The ambiance is a welcoming cafe with a modern vibe and the service is very friendly and accommodating. The food is very good, and worth a small wait for. This is the only brunch spot we have tried on the island but I think it would be hard to beat.

Came in on a Saturday morning with a big group and it was packed! The wait time was 45 minutes to an hour so we didn't end up staying for brunch as planned- however the star of the show for me is the little mini togo cafe that they had inside. My latte was a 10/10

Food: so flavorful. I never had crab cake Benedict before and was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the tropical padre smoothie, so refreshing for breakfast. Service: excellent. Waiter was attentive and welcoming. He had such a bubbly fun attitude. Ambiance: love the rustic, coastal vibe of this place. Definitely gives off the island vibe we were looking for, even the music was cool! I heard some Rebelution while in there!

Cute little cafe on SPI! It's bigger inside than it looks on the outside. The coffee was really good and there is an extensive coffee menu. Grabbed some breakfast and seated rather quickly and served quickly despite it being rather busy. The grit cakes were quite bland and we should have went with the servers recommendation to share biscuits and gravy. The shrimp omelette was excellent and the fruit cup has the tastiness melon I've ever had! The Benedict was similar to many others. Although the plating of the chilaquiles was lacking they were great and had a nice little kick with jalapeños. They even have a cool smoothie menu and we saw many folks popping in the to go area just to grab one and head to the beach. Pop on in to this lovely little spot on SPI if you're hankering for something tasty and easy.

Big cafe with a good variety of food items, dine-in seating, and a coffee bar at the back. We dropped by for a few drinks to go. Vibe: the restaurant is pretty big, with a good amount of seating inside. Pretty casual, clean, and mom-and-pop kinda vibe. We went straight to the drink bar at the back. Service: Servers here were not very attentive. We had questions about some of the menu items, and an employee (maybe a manager?) responded by referring us to another employee behind the counter who was busy making stuff. Then, he proceeded to tell us that the syrup flavors available were "whatever you see behind the counter" which was not very visible. All in all, not very helpful, and he seemed to be a little visibly frustrated with the other employees - not sure who was at fault here, but it was kinda uncomfortable nonetheless. Drinks: We ordered the cucumber lime refresher, melange berry refresher, and iced Purple Haze tea latte. The refreshers were incredible, fruity, and definitely refreshing! We would recommend grabbing these if you are a big fan of the refreshers from Starbucks. The iced purple haze tea was not so great - skip it. Tasted very water, not really any flavor. It also takes a long time for them to prepare. We definitely recommend grabbing the refresher drinks here when you are visiting SPI as they are delicious and refreshing! This spot is Let's Eat Houston approved.

Good choice, down here for the winter. Had shrimp and grits. Definitely recommend. Had 5 big shrimp piece of sausage on the bottom with bacon bits. Price was right 24.18 with coffee. Good coffee, they have a lot of the foofoo coffees , I just had a cup of regular black coffee. The waitress kept it full. I kept my receipt for a 10% discount on my next visit. I paid cash, they up charge for cards, who doesn't anymore.

We initially just decided to stay to a drink and move on ... but as we sat there and looked at the menu, sipped our drinks, we saw other food coming out of the kitchen! It looked GREAT! We ordered the crispy oyster tapas (fried oysters on homemade potato chips with mango pico). They came out quickly and were oh so tasty! We were convinced! Time for dinner! We ordered a rueben sandwich (with homemade parmesan potato chips) and the snapper veracruz (tomato, onion, olives, capers) with grilled zucchini. Hustle is her middle name... thank you ma'am, you made the evening! The menu was a chef's selection 4 course menu, with options for each course. We opted for the wine pairings with each course. The restaurant was decked out with New Year's regalia... with balloons, hats, noise makers, at every table... really fun atmosphere! All the staff were decked out fancy, looked great! For our first course, we selected lobster bisque mushroom soup. The mushroom soup was divine, absolutely fabulous. The lobster bisque was sub-par... while plentiful, the lobster was not fresh, tasted very fishy. The second course of the seafood medley and venison bites was equally Jekyll and Hyde! Venison, superb, tender, cooked perfectly, tasted great. The seafood medley, all super fishy ... not fresh! Crab claws mushy too, obviously frozen prior. Oysters pitifully small and warm. Shrimp, while cold, were very fishy and mushy, as if previously frozen. No bueno! Our third course was the surf/turf and Akashi short rib ragout. The turf was awesome, best steak we've had in years! The lobster ... pitiful, small, overcooked, tough and fishy! Disgusting! The ragout was good, but we're not sure why chef's make beef dishes sweet ... good beef stands on its own, no need to over season! Not a well conceived dish... Our final course was the chocolate soufflé and lemon cake ... both were terrific! The soufflé with Chantilly cream and whipped cream was very good. The star dessert was the lemon cake with fresh fruit! Light and airy cake, the fruit was to die for. Delicious! The wind pairings were good, although some of the selections were "tired" favs, like "The Prisoner"... IMHO. Such a good wine list at F&B, the pairings were disappointing! The staff whisked away a 1/2 finished pre-dinner martini, which Marlene graciously replaced! When you spend $500+ on dinner for two, even a special evening, the restaurant should deliver. F&B did not meet the standard on New Year's Eve. We won't be back this trip..,

Our server was a serious quiet talker, and I mean barely audible, like she was trying not to wake someone up. Between that and the long stretches between check-ins, the meal felt a little adrift. I started with the avocado fries. They looked the part but tasted like almost nothing. I kept waiting for something to land and it never did. My main was the barbacoa plate, which was intensely dry and aggressively salty . The kind of salt that makes you drain a water glass before you're halfway through. This could have been a solid dish. It wasn't. And here's the thing: the gas station across the street sells barbacoa that's genuinely better. I'm not being cute. That's just true. My wife had the coconut shrimp. Forgettable. The food here looks good. It photographs well. But there's a gap between presentation and flavor that's hard to overlook, especially when the concept has enough ambition to make you expect more. For what we paid, "it looked pretty" isn't a satisfying consolation prize. I hope they find their footing, the space deserves it. But I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back.

Updates of Texan eateries I like (2 of 2)…read more Yummie's is one South Padre Island restaurant I really like, and if you spend some time here, you may wind up trying most of them, including some across the water in Port Isabel. For starters, Yummie's has a great feel about it - bright, spacious, and slightly nautical. They do a breakfast and lunch business, a business model a good number of local eateries share with them. While I can't vouch for their breakfasts and since I like lunch food more, their lunch menu is fairly vast. With all this being said, I wandered in here the last time on South Padre Island knowing I'd find a lunch platter to my liking. I would expect that to be a bountiful sandwich and that's what I've enjoyed on both visits. In my first visit here, I ordered a slice of the organic red grapefruit pie. It was a feast for the senses. On the last visit to Yummie's, this unique pie was not available. I believe it would have been in season. The server wasn't exactly clear, but said it had something to do with more recent menu planning. I was disappointed. It's that dessert that brought me to Yummie's the first time I visited and it's that item that brought me back. Look, I'm not a granola, and neither are most Texans and "Winter Texans" given that they sell towels and t-shirts with pit bulls on them across the street, which means that you can skip the organic part of the equation if it makes it easier for you to procure red grapefruits for you to deliver on this bodacious pie. The sandwiches and lunch platters at Yummie's are generously sized. I've gotten the standard potato chips to round out my sandwiches. Maybe I didn't see an option, but it would be nice if regular fries or something similar was offered for a reasonable upcharge. Since potato chips already have enough oils and fat, one might as well push the envelope that extra mile with another starch that tastes even better. The reviews will attest to Yummie's being a rock solid restaurant. I agree. I recommend it highly, but, for my wants and needs, will look at the most current menu or call beforehand prior to going in to eat. That's correct ... these aren't the sorts of specifics for which you would text them.
