My mom has been a resident now for a little over a month. Prior to admission, I was her primary caregiver for 2 years. I have hired companion care staff and enrolled mom in adult day care services for the past 2 years. I had to face the reality that I was burnt out and needed more help at home as her dementia progressed. Mom is on a fixed income and we had very few options for memory care facilities in Raleigh. For years, I visited and researched facilities in the Raleigh area and was unsuccessful due to the high cost of memory care and just a very poor experiences during facility visits. A Place For Mom encouraged me to visit Toney for myself and I wish I had sooner. I survived sleepless nights and finally decided to take the trip to visit Toney. Director Latoya Ragland was very patient with me whenever I reached out to her with questions and concerns about admission. She was always responsive and kind. Toney provides a family environment for your loved one. Staff have been excellent with communication. For years I lost out on my PTO at work, taking mom to and from appointments. Toney provides personal care, transportation to appointments, activities for residents and an environment where residents feel at home. I will admit, Toney is not a brand new facility, so if aesthetics are more important to you than actual care, you may look elsewhere. But they have met all of my other expectations and I am so grateful to the staff. The residents here are always alert, a pleasure to engage with and well taken care of. They never appear exit seeking but rather comfortable in their home. My mom has expressed to me how comfortable she is and how clean the facility is kept. I have finally found peace and recommend this facility for anyone who is struggling as a caregiver.

We determined that caring for them required more than one family member's single care and decided to place them in an assisted living home. We found Toney Rest Home in Oxford, NC. This facility is clean and well-kept with the most caring staff we have ever met. My family are grateful for the patience and love they provide our loved ones. We never announce our visits and each and every time we visit our loved ones are either participating in some type of residents activity such as board games or watching TV shows in the TV room. Mother had problems with her speech, and we could barely understand the words she spoke. However, since residing at Toney Rest Home her speech is getting better, and we are so very happy because they took the time to understand mother's condition and work with her daily. We are exceptionally impressed with the support of the staff and everything they have to offer, and we would highly recommend this facility to other families. If you are looking for a place for your loved ones, this is the place!

It was a difficult transition for her coming from Granville House where she was alert, mobile and mostly independent much of the time to transferring to OHRC after a fall and partial hip replacement for rehabilitation and not being able to walk as well, care for herself as much and even not as active as she once was, not to mention her mental decline. I was worried about her- in a lot of ways - worried about her care, her rehabilitation, her socialization, her ability to communicate with me and let me know what was going on like she used to...just alot of things. But there are a handful of people who work at OHRC that helped to relieve some of my concerns and who I feel took good care of my mom in all different ways and those people are: Hannah Twisdale, Jane Woodlief, Lakisha Street, Chris Cozart. There were also some nurses Janet, Sonja and Nicole (don't have their last names) and of course the receptionist who always greeted me and my family with a smile Niesha. I would recommend Oxford Health and Rehab, but I also recommend staying in close contact with the nurses, the ambassador who advocates for your loved one, aids who cares for them and just visiting them often to stay connected. If you have an issue, go right away and let the nurse or someone know what you need and what is going on. Follow up and escalate it necessary. We are our loved one's voice!

Everyone here has been welcoming and friendly, and there are lots of activities -- classes, trips, a great pool, a hiking group, library, etc. and several places to share meals, to keep us mentally, physically, and socially involved (all planned with pandemic precautions in place). But best of all is the peace of mind we have knowing that whatever happens with our health, there are facilities here that can care for us in the future.

As a young guest, I didn't feel that comfortable asking questions. But most of mine were asked by some other old folks. I'm glad I came to the event! The event space was appropriately large and it was filled.

Our Board of Directors, CEO, Finance Officer, Marketing etc are not able to adequately answer what I consider a reasonable question. Here it is and I've been asking this question for the past 2-3 years and other residence have expressed the same frustration over the same issue long before I got here. "How are our Monthly Fees determined"? What elements/cost factors make up a determination to charge a particular monthly fee (which increases every year)? All we get is "it's complicated." Or some vague well it's, not just square footage, it's other things but they cannot, or chose not, to delineated those factors. Worse yet, if they don't know, we need someone else handling our management. We pay our CEO very handsomely ($250K annually) and to not be able to tell the people paying his salary how they are being billed is unconscionable to me and causes questions about handling of funds. Before signing to live here, I asked the same question and still couldn't get an answer and if I declined to sign, they would just go to the next person on a long waiting list. I had already waited 5 years. So even though I signed, I felt I had not choice if I wanted to live here. Maybe you can get an answer! If so, please Post and advertise.

The turn over of Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A.) is overwhelming and never been seen at our facility before! They need a change from top down and do something to attract and retain staff. A sign-on bonus and retention bonus would be a start. Along with shift differentials for staff working 2nd & 3rd shifts. This is becoming too stressful for current staff having to work extra hours to fill in for vacancies. We've even had to bring in Agency Nurses for coverage. Something we've never done before here at GR.
