For a campground in one of the most busy national parks it was good. If you are staying here do not expect any sort of privacy. The camp sites are all very close together. We lucked out and got a spot right by the lake. Oh and that is where you should hang out. My son loved the sandy beach. We spent a whole afternoon just relaxing by the water. Swimming is allowed but the water is chilly. You get used to it though. One thing that kind of puzzles me is the amount of RV's and trailers. Apparently people don't camp in tents anymore. Camping next to an RV with it's generator running kind of sucked. At least they turned it off when it was required. But why drive cross country in one of these monsters just to sit inside them? You are there for the park, remember. Anyway, the check in process was painless. All the camp hosts were friendly. Make sure to secure your food if you are leaving your site. And most importantly get outside and enjoy Yellowstone!

When in Yellowstone National Park, just remember that it is fairly crowded all year long. And it's bear country. The Grant Village Campground is no exception. There are over 400 sites at this campground. Aside from this fact, the campground itself is very well-maintained and has some really great amenities for both tent campers and RVers. None of the sites have electricity, water, or sewage hook ups; however, there is a dump station near the office. During our mid September 2017 visit, sites were $29 per night. PROS - each site has a picnic table & campfire ring w/ grill - clean flush restrooms with outlets for personal use - showers & laundry facilities nearby - dishwashing sinks near restrooms - firewood sold at the front office - shared food storage boxes - post office, gas station, store, restaurant, boat launch & recycling area also nearby - dogs allowed CONS - even when making reservations, you can't choose the site you want online - super unreal LONG waiting line for check-ins - very close sites - people walking or "trying" to walk through our camp to get to the restrooms Everyone pretty much follows the quiet hours, so at 3 AM you'll probably snap out of deep sleep to coyotes yapping and howling after their kill. 2017 Yelp Challenge #112

We decided to stay an extra day in Yellowstone and our park accommodation was at Grant. Our space there was C 95, and it was quite lovely.

We decided to stay in Yellowstone one more day. Luckily for us, there was availability. The campgrounds are nice and quiet. The shower facilities are clean and well maintained. The showers were hot, and the coffee in the market was fresh. The staff are really friendly, too. I will certainly be back to Yellowstone, and I will definitely stay here again.

With reservation, did you have to check in by 11 AM? I was hoping I could check in afternoon.

I checked in at 9:55 PM. That was five minutes before they closed the office.

At the last minute, I had tacked on an extra day and really wanted to do one night under the stars. So I booked a night here through Recreation.gov. Jenny Lake Campground is a really beautiful campground. The campground hosts were really nice and gave me lots of information about the area. I had limited gear because I flew in and they directed me to a couple spots where I could do some shopping for food and supplies. Jenny Lake Campground is a small 51 site campground that is a few hundred yards from the east shore of Jenny Lake. No trailers, campers, or generators are allowed. It is tent camping only which I loved because it made it so peaceful. Maximum per site is two tents, one vehicle, and six guests for up to seven nights. There are food storage lockers on hand because bear activity is frequent in this campground. I'm a big outdoorsman and really enjoyed my night camping here. It was nice and quiet and I had great views of the Grand Teton mountain range. It did get a little chilly overnight because it was raining when I arrived. But my overall experience was wonderful.

So dust off the old Kelty and prepare for a more primitive experience. No generators, no RV's, just tents. This is a very desired campground. Reservations are usually made well in advance. If you're flexible watch for cancelations. That's what we did. So one thing to be aware of is this is an area that is frequented by lots of wildlife. On our visit we saw deer and fox. But bears are around as well. So food must be kept in your vehicle or the provided metal storage box. Dishes are washed in camp and then you dump the dirty water and debris in the toilet. This is though if your are in one of the spots that's away from the single bathroom facility. Phone service is ok to poor to non existent depending on your carrier. I had an ATT phone and Verizon. Verizon is a no go. ATT had service in the campsites near the restroom. Most people (including myself), want to get away from the internet and phones. But if you need to be in contact for work or whatever plan ahead. Finally, this is a prime location in one of the more beautiful spots on earth. Staying here puts you right at the base of the Tetons and within walking distance of the Jenny Lake visitors center. Jackson is 30 min away and Yellowstone is 1.5 hrs or so. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
