The Madison River, very near the campground.
    Andrew T.

Just completed a stay in Yellowstone at this campground, and I'm pretty happy about it. Lots of campsites, mixed between RV, single, and multiple tent. You can pull your car right up to the site, which is convenient. Three nights for our site (limited to 6 campers) was only $60. While I was there, rules for dry conditions applied. I don't know if they applied all year long (I assume so), but fires had to be extinguished and could not be left unattended. Additionally, it's "bear country" so bear boxes must be used, or items must be stored in cars. There are nice bathrooms, to dull the illusion of roughing it, complete with heat, appreciated during the mid 20s nights I had this past weekend. Good recycling and trash facilities, ice and firewood vending. Nearby is the Madison river, which is pretty breathtaking. While we were camping, a family of elk was chillin down by the river, so we could see them by taking a walk in the evenings. Additionally, lots of teal and swan frequented the river. I read reviews from another website that indicated herds of animals would move through the campsite on a regular, if not annoyingly so, basis. Didn't happen to us - we might have had a deer or elk nosing around our tent at night one night, but certainly no herds. Bison, elk, pronghorn, and others were plentiful within the park though, so it's not like I didn't commune with nature. Only last note - the road from Madison to Norris is closed. This is so incredibly, massively inconvenient, that I can't even describe it to you. It cuts off a key central leg of the Grand Loop road system, and means that in order to reach Norris and the north/northeast sections of the park, it's not a 15 mile drive, but a 70+ mile drive via Old Faithful and West Thumb. Super mega annoying. But that road should be open next year, so this probably won't affect too many more people before the end of the season for this particular campsite.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights. We were told from many people that we would not need any reservation for October due to the season change not too many people in the park... that part was accurate, we felt as though we had the place to ourselves, but on our arrival we discovered that we should have made them. The park starts to close down other campgrounds and the remaining ones get packed. We have a 5th wheel at 33 ft and they don't have many spaces for that size trailer either. We ended up getting lucky and they found us a beautiful spot close to the river. Ahhhh the river! We got settled and poured a glass of wine and trekked down by the water to wait for sunset and ended up with company.... a lone buffalo headed straight for us! We decided he had the right of way and watched him pass... he was beautiful and so was this spot. Lots of folks fly fishing and just enjoying the beauty of this amazing place.

Great amenities with a dump station as well! Clean facilities and super beautiful. We already made reservations for next year!

Don't get caught standing barefoot in there) - Non-existent water pressure coming from shower head (think a steady trickle or violent mist is all you get) - Remember to bring your own toilet paper with you (I'm serious folks!) - tight spaces (you are right up on your neighbors) I really tried to not let this place ruin our wonderfully, amazing experience in Yellowstone National Park. After a long day wandering and exploring, I hope you don't have to call this place home. I would only stay here again if nothing else was available and even then, I probably wouldn't...

There is no map of the campground on the website and the site descriptions are not clear. Pictures posted on campground are NPT from Wagon Wheel campground. There is no river nearby Took us several tries to get in between the trees and other parked RVs. The bathrooms / showers were closed If I stayed here again I would select a pull through or street side site We were in #12 and it would be best for a small motorbike. NOT a trailer or 5th wheel There are other better campground options. I hope this map helps you pick a perfect spot

One morning the there was a toilet issue in one of the men's rooms and once reported, they jumped on it immediately. There is a typical RV store at the main building along with restrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. There are a few other buildings with restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities in the park as well. Sites were in good shape, being level, and with newer picnic tables. We didn't have any issues with power, water, or sewer hookups. All were easy and standard. The only miss for me was the lack of mowing, which wasn't done during our visit. They could have also used a bit of weed spray for the dandelions throughout the park. This really was a nice stay though and appreciative of the very nice staff that we ran across during our stay. This park is also very nicely located just outside Yellowstone and within an easy walk to town.

Even though this is the last week of the season when we visit, all facilities we need are open, well maintained, and kept very clean. They condense the fall stragglers to one area of the park but make sure bathroom / shower / laundry facilities near by are kept open. The spots are immaculate, the grounds are beautiful, and the distant howling of the wolves make this an excellent place to stay. We look forward to coming back again next year!

The laundry room and bathrooms were immaculate. The RV park is behind the IMAX theater. We were given discount tickets for the IMAX movie on Yellowstone and coupons for free ice cream. We also received a $20 coupon off of any purchases made in the gift shop at the IMAX theater. These sites were well-maintained. They were gravel however they were very close together. Even though it was in downtown area it was very quite peaceful. We did have to disconnect our water every night due to freeze warnings, however, the RV park has no control over the weather. Refilled our tank with freshwater when they turned it on in the morning this allow us to have water to shower, etc.. My only complaint was that they offered Wi-Fi, but it did not work for us. Very quiet at night and well maintained. Not many trees for shade. I highly recommend this place for staying in your RV.

Lodgepole pine trees permeate the area and offer nice coverage. The sites are good sized, the bathrooms have hot hand dryers for cold days and have large dishwashing stations attached. The "village" is very cute - plenty of shops, a sporting goods store, good restaurant options, a post office, and much more. The prices were great - $5.50 local IPA pints on tap, $2 for a nice bowl of real mashed potatoes and gravy, etc. A short walk to Yellowstone falls, as well as a short drive in any direction to other major attractions. When we were here it snowed but the pines were easy to tie tarps off of. This site drained really well, and so although we had lots of precipitation we stayed very dry. There is firewood by at the camp entrance and they give you hot showers for every day that you're there. Because of the high altitude wood fires don't start that well, so bring some charcoal lighter fluid or something. Highly recommended - we will be back!

My only complaint was that our specific site (A7) wasn't very level and it was difficult to find a flat enough spot to set up our tent. We ended up sleeping on quite the angle, which after 3 nights is obviously not ideal. I also wished the showers were open 24/7. If people are out watching wildlife until later into the evening or get up earlier to get a good start on their day they end up missing the hours for showers.
