You know that Annie's…read moreback in town" (Led Zeppelin) I had an early morning Board of Directors meeting in Rocky Hill and stopped at Ani's for a coffee and something to eat. I found it Inside an ordinary looking strip mall. The coffee choices are pretty impressive, and their website made me chuckle when I saw them ask viewers to "Drop the orange and pink branded cup ;-) - There is a better way to start your morning, power your day, and sip on a little sunshine". I passed on their lineup of Cappuccino, Lattes, Espressos, Americanos, Macchiato, Cold Brews, Vietnamese, Cuban, And Con Panna, because all I wanted was a regular coffee, I went with their Deep Roast version known as CAFÉ HABANA, an espresso bean blend from Guatemala, Brazil, and Nicaragua. It was excellent, a yummy dark roast coffee with plenty of taste to it. Now seriously, what is a morning coffee without an accompanying bakery treat. They had a tempting variety of empanadas, croissants, pastries, and it was a tough decision before I put my money down on a muffin-like asparagus cheese frittata. It was decadently great. While I was waiting for my order, I looked around and saw quite a bit of prepared food (all prepared from scratch in house) for take-out. They have a lunch menu and a great looking Italian themed catering menu with Manicotti, Hand Stuffed Shells, Beef Lasagna, Three Cheese Lasagna, Four Cheese Mac & Cheese, and Eggplant Torta. Your shopping and browsing experience will also include sightings of canned goods, assorted groceries and baked goods. For all of these reasons, I was very impressed with my stop at Ani's, and I bet you'll be too.

Hands down, this was my favorite pistachio latte in comparison to Starbucks, Dunkin and another smaller chain spot I've tried. The pistachio tasted authentic and was perfectly sweetened. I can't remember what my husband ordered, most likely a regular hot coffee - whatever it was he drank it all and didn't have any complaints. We also sampled an orange cream cake that was absolutely delicious! I do plan on coming back for more coffee and would like to try some food!

Consider hosting your party elsewhere. I booked a party months in advance and booked the larger of…read morethe two rooms. I was shown the room and told that's where I was going to be so there would be plenty of room for my guests. Please keep in mind at the time there were no other parties booked, just me. Well, the day of my party, we arrived early to drop things off and come to find out, there was another party set up where we were supposed to be. When I questioned the owner about it he said, "I have to make money. They were a bigger party. They booked after you." So because this other party had more anticipated people than mine, I was moved to the smaller room. No phone call, no heads up, just found out when I showed up. I think if someone books a specific room for an event (and I paid a deposit) that's where the event should be held. At the very least if I HAD to be moved, a courtesy phone call should have been made. The owner didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with this and simply said, "I learned my lesson, I won't be promising anyone certain rooms." No discount offered or sincere apology. In fact, I ended up being charged MORE money than I anticipated. I had 6 children attending (4 and under) and was told they would be free. Well, that day instead he said children are 1/2 price. I told him that's what we discussed and he was rude and said "it's your word against mine and I'm charging you for the children." One of those children was 6 months old so he did take her off the bill and said "I'm doing you a favor and taking your little baby off the bill." What restaurant would even think about charging a 6 month baby for a plate of food? The whole principle of the situation was just wrong. Don't promise someone a room, don't say children are free, and then give someone a different room and decide children are now 1/2 off. That's no way to run a business and I hope this review steers people into finding a different venue to host their party. Now, when it comes to the service, the waitress we had was nice and helpful. At least she apologized to both me and my husband for the situation. However, there were two parties and it seemed she was the only waitress. That's a lot for one person to have to keep up with. Resulting in people's drinks not being filled, or no one being at the bar when someone wanted a drink. That's unrealistic and unfair to put on one person. The food was good, but nothing you couldn't get elsewhere. All the other issues were enough to never make me want to come back here. If you do decide to book here, get everything in writing. Where you'll be, who you'll be paying for, etc. I can understand mistakes happen, but I don't think this was a genuine mistake. This was just misleading a customer and not caring. Because he was making money. Own up to the fact that this was wrong and have some compassion on how it's upsetting for a paying customer. Instead, I was met with no compassion and even my guests knew there was an issue at the end of the party because of an argument over the bill. Do better. I think this goes without saying, but we won't be back.
