I still play this course…read moreregularly, and right now in the fall of 2025, it might be in the absolute best shape I have ever seen it. Not much in the way of dead patches except where course turns to woods, kind of expected. Greens are in excellent shape, but I will say on my last round, LIGHTNING fast. Hole number 6 needs to be fixed. There is no way to stop your ball even if it lands in the fairway, from rolling all the way down the hill to the right. The grass there won't stop it, and it will likely end up lost in the brush by the small drainage creek. I don't like losing balls on good golf shots. I would really like to see railroad ties, or some kind of barrier installed to stop this. I'll hit from down there, fine, but losing a ball every time is not my idea of fun. This is why I can't give the course 5 stars. At least hole 2 has improved. Prices remain very affordable to ride 18. This is also a nice place to come and practice. They have a practice green, chipping range, and a full service driving range. I do wish they had a medium size for range balls, as the gap between the small and large bucket is vast. I often wish I had something in the middle. Overall, I consider this my "home" course, and it is the one I play most often as it's fairly easy to get onto. I recommend this for anyone that is looking for a decent challenge at a laid back course. This is not the place to come if you want premium amenities and rangers that police the course a lot.

I enjoyed my time here and, in general, I think this is a great resort for the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point). I was born and raised in High Point and remember when Grandover opened in 1999. After 27 years, I finally got to visit. From the golf course to the hotel, I could tell the property has seen better days (e.g., details in course conditioning and building maintenance). As I wrote in my review for the golf course separately, this is not uncommon for golf facilities that were built during the last golf course boom in the 80s and 90s. The hotel is still quite nice, though, and is on the higher, more luxurious end. I checked the 2026 listing of AAA Four Diamond hotels and Grandover is still on the list, along with the O.Henry Hotel, Proximity Hotel, and Kimpton Cardinal Hotel as the only four hotels in the Triad with that status. Cocktail hour and dinner took place in the Grandville Ballroom. I guesstimate there were about 150-175 attendees. The ballroom worked well for this event, including all A/V aspects. The buffet-style dinner was delicious; in particular, the short rib and cobbler. The bartenders at the hotel bar, 1808 Bar (named after the year the city of Greensboro was founded), were initially overwhelmed with the post-dinner rush. The bar appeared to be decently stocked and my drink, the Hugo Spritz (St-Germain, champagne, club soda) was refreshing. 1808 Bar is located right in front of the hotel restaurant, Finial. I stayed in Room 421, on the fourth floor, with a view of the fountains, parking lot, and a stretch of I-85 which I have driven on countless times over the years. I really liked my room. It was luxe and spacious. Consistent with resorts in this tier, some of the finer features included robes (no logo, though), a nice mini bar, personalized TV guest screen, and rain shower head. The bed was super comfy. The cost for one night was $249. After sales tax (6.75%) and occupancy tax (6%), the total was $280.75. The room charge was "resort fee exempt," so it was discounted from a normal stay since I stayed with a group. Service was professional and speedy. The bellhops were particularly welcoming, friendly, and eager to serve. The art gallery and golf mural rotunda are neat. My only criticism is that after golf, everyone tried to shower at the same time, which meant no hot water for many. I waited a long time for my shower water to heat up. However, the next morning when I took another shower, the water heated up in a normal amount of time. For my thoughts on the golf experience, see my separate review on the Grandover Golf Course page: https://www.yelp.com/biz/grandover-golf-course-greensboro?hrid=rIV1jrVihP1CpEgsowQVSg Trivia: For decades, Grandover Resort was the site of the Atlantic Coast Conference's annual football and basketball media days. The office park by the East Course's 15th green and 16th tee was also home to the ACC headquarters from 1996 to 2023. In 2021, when my alma mater Georgia Tech won the ACC men's basketball tournament, the team watched Selection Sunday outside at one of Grandover's outdoor spaces.

In general the entire premises could use some TLC, and though I'm generally just one of those "give me an open field to smack stuff into" kind of guys, I can't help but feel that there are better fields to smack little round white balls into. From the entrance, the paved driveway is being gradually reclaimed by the surrounding woodland, and that can kind of be said in general of the whole place. The parking lot is more than large enough for the range, even on the nicest of days I would think. The clubhouse is no longer a clubhouse. Over the years it went from being walk-in and stocking a few items, even re-gripping clubs on demand, to just a window with an attendant, to now, no attendant. That's all honestly fine with me, the ball dispenser seems to work fine, even if giving it your money isn't the most intuitive thing in the world. Other than the ball vend-o-tron, you get a pepsi machine. Speaking of giving it your money, it's $10 for a medium bucket of balls currently, which is 70 balls. That's higher than most of the surrounding golf courses, particularly Jamestown, which has recently overhauled their range into a better experience on days with or without a mat. On the subject of the balls, they need to be purged. In my bucket, I got about half newer balls, and of the remaining half, balls that still had dimples but were covered in gouges and marks, to balls that have been weather-worn almost completely smooth. This item needs the most attention, as I'm not really getting any kind of accurate practice with balls that bad. On my visit, it was "mat-only" but i kind of get the feeling that is the default here now. The grass in front of the matted area is non-existent. The mats do not have tees for you to hit driver, nor are they the newer mats that you can actually slip your own tee into. The result is, people hit irons off the mat, then step forward onto the dirt to tee up for driver practice. On the plus side, there were more than enough tees for me to scavenge instead of using my own. The short game area has fallen into total disrepair, it's not even acknowledged anymore. On a nice spring day, at any given time i was there, there was probably about 10-12 people. Means this place makes a decent chunk of change, and someone just comes along now and then to tractor up the balls and refill the vend-o-tron. A pressure washer, new mats that are tee-able so they can re-seed the grass in front, and a bunch of new range balls would really bring this place back to prominence even if the short game area is never to be used again.

Always a couple show offs that think they are pros, but whatever makes them happy. The games are cute, and great for 6 or less people. We always have fun, especially when the worst one there always wins because some of the higher scoring "drives" are the chippers that barely make it off the tee. I like hitting from the 2nd or 3rd floor, just seems cooler, but maybe I'll try bottom next time.
