Might wanna SWING by here if you're a golfer in the Triad area, as this course has something for…read moreeveryone! Holly Ridge features quality golf on a well cared for course that is especially forgiving to golfers who may struggle in the "hit the ball straight" department, as well as a pretty good restaurant on PAR with sports bars in this area. For the golf, Holly Ridge is a typical piedmont course in that there are several altitude adjustments in play throughout your round. Long ball hitters can find themselves at an advantage on holes where there is a descent to the green if they can hit over the hump. The courses main hazards are water which usually come into play off the tee as opposed to on an approach. Beginner golfers who struggle to get the ball in the air consistently might find this challenging. If left and right is your problem, you might find some forgiveness here, as there are usually neighboring fairways or sufficient rough to where finding an off-line ball is easy. There aren't many points on the course where the woods are close enough to make a ball hard to find. The greens in my experience roll pretty true, I have had some days where they are extremely fast due to how sun baked they are. Holly Ridge is home to my third best round, in which I shot an 80. They have recently installed GPS into the carts as well, so you'll always know your distance to the hole, which is really nice. Before that, it was hard to figure out your distance without an app, as there aren't many markers. That said, the GPS can be annoying, as it will yell at you and even disable your cart if you get too close to the green for too long. For the grill, more than sufficient for a ninth hole turnaround. Good hot dogs, ample beer selection at fair prices. Ordering is available from the newly installed units in the carts. If you're looking for a full meal, this is a great place, as they have a decent size menu featuring mostly sandwiches, chicken, salads, burgers, etc. It seems that locals come here just to eat, which by the food taste and price point, sounds good to me! Overall, I really like Holly Ridge. I've been coming here for many years, and have watched this course really come into its own after some renovations a few years back. Of course, the price went up a little with that, but I think the experience is still definitely worth the weekend rate. FORE!

Three years since my last review, and there is not a ton new to say here. I still play this course…read moreregularly, and right now in the fall of 2025, it might be in the absolute best shape I have ever seen it. Not much in the way of dead patches except where course turns to woods, kind of expected. Greens are in excellent shape, but I will say on my last round, LIGHTNING fast. Hole number 6 needs to be fixed. There is no way to stop your ball even if it lands in the fairway, from rolling all the way down the hill to the right. The grass there won't stop it, and it will likely end up lost in the brush by the small drainage creek. I don't like losing balls on good golf shots. I would really like to see railroad ties, or some kind of barrier installed to stop this. I'll hit from down there, fine, but losing a ball every time is not my idea of fun. This is why I can't give the course 5 stars. At least hole 2 has improved. Prices remain very affordable to ride 18. This is also a nice place to come and practice. They have a practice green, chipping range, and a full service driving range. I do wish they had a medium size for range balls, as the gap between the small and large bucket is vast. I often wish I had something in the middle. Overall, I consider this my "home" course, and it is the one I play most often as it's fairly easy to get onto. I recommend this for anyone that is looking for a decent challenge at a laid back course. This is not the place to come if you want premium amenities and rangers that police the course a lot.

In general the entire premises could use some TLC, and though I'm generally just one of those "give me an open field to smack stuff into" kind of guys, I can't help but feel that there are better fields to smack little round white balls into. From the entrance, the paved driveway is being gradually reclaimed by the surrounding woodland, and that can kind of be said in general of the whole place. The parking lot is more than large enough for the range, even on the nicest of days I would think. The clubhouse is no longer a clubhouse. Over the years it went from being walk-in and stocking a few items, even re-gripping clubs on demand, to just a window with an attendant, to now, no attendant. That's all honestly fine with me, the ball dispenser seems to work fine, even if giving it your money isn't the most intuitive thing in the world. Other than the ball vend-o-tron, you get a pepsi machine. Speaking of giving it your money, it's $10 for a medium bucket of balls currently, which is 70 balls. That's higher than most of the surrounding golf courses, particularly Jamestown, which has recently overhauled their range into a better experience on days with or without a mat. On the subject of the balls, they need to be purged. In my bucket, I got about half newer balls, and of the remaining half, balls that still had dimples but were covered in gouges and marks, to balls that have been weather-worn almost completely smooth. This item needs the most attention, as I'm not really getting any kind of accurate practice with balls that bad. On my visit, it was "mat-only" but i kind of get the feeling that is the default here now. The grass in front of the matted area is non-existent. The mats do not have tees for you to hit driver, nor are they the newer mats that you can actually slip your own tee into. The result is, people hit irons off the mat, then step forward onto the dirt to tee up for driver practice. On the plus side, there were more than enough tees for me to scavenge instead of using my own. The short game area has fallen into total disrepair, it's not even acknowledged anymore. On a nice spring day, at any given time i was there, there was probably about 10-12 people. Means this place makes a decent chunk of change, and someone just comes along now and then to tractor up the balls and refill the vend-o-tron. A pressure washer, new mats that are tee-able so they can re-seed the grass in front, and a bunch of new range balls would really bring this place back to prominence even if the short game area is never to be used again.

Surprisingly, this place is open! The phone number on yelp (as of March 2024) is not updated…read more They are open until 9 most weeknights. Balls are reasonably priced vs other places, grounds are maintained well. I wish all the lights worked at night (need to stick close to the entrance after dark), and wish the parking lot was lit as well.

We had a booked reservation, yet when we arrived, they made us wait past our reserved time. First, we were told, "They're cleaning your bay." Then we were told we could go to a specific bay number they provided. When we got there, it was already occupied by guests who were having dinner and had just placed their order. How does that even happen? By this point, we had already been waiting over 30 minutes. We found a staff member who said he would "talk to the guests" and try to get them to leave faster. We were left standing there awkwardly while he said he was "talking to the manager" and told us to just wait. This was incredibly uncomfortable -- especially for a date. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. Once we finally got settled, there was no server around for quite a while. Even though we mentioned early on that we wanted to order drinks and food, no one came. Our drinks finally arrived almost an hour later. We were playing hungry and sober the entire time. When we tried to order dinner afterward, we were told the food would take at least another 30 minutes and that we would need to eat inside. After all the delays and confusion, we decided not to order at all. This was honestly one of the most disorganized and poorly managed customer experiences I've ever encountered. For a place that markets itself as fun and social, the lack of coordination, communication, and basic service was shocking. Definitely not the experience you'd expect or want for a date night.
