Fantastic hotel with fantastic service. Some of the elevators are TINY so prepare to be uncomfortably close to other passengers. Great hotel, plagued by the same curse as every hotel. They have events where loud bands will play until 3 am in the morning. Never stay on the end near the bar in the 2nd or 3rd floors. You will be awake all night. The breakfast buffet is epic. Fresh fruit, crepes , eggs, breads, cheeses, crackers, pastries and specialty coffee drinks. You are within walking distance to the National museum, the Modern Museum, the palace, and the Nobel museum. A little farther is the Vasa and the Nordic Museum. read more

I've stayed here on at least 7 different occasions and have loved it every time except once when they were undergoing some mind maddening construction but failed to warn me when I made my reservations. The rooms are huge, well appointed, the service is impeccable, everything is spotlessly clean and the location in the city couldn't be better, but of course you do pay for it and really pay out ($26USD) if you happen to be a martini drinker like me and order one at their bar. Ouch! The best times I've spent here, however, have been over the Christmas Holidays, There really is something special about Christmas in Sweden and the Christmas smorgasbord at the Grand is indeed the epitome of Grand. Besides other great foods they had so many varieties of herring I couldn't even count much less sample them all. Oh, be sure to try some of the moose or reindeer steaks with juniper. Location is perfect! With its pretty view over the castle and the water this jewel of service and history is for sure the place to choose when staying in the capital of Sweden. Rooms are good spaced and the interior gives me a very Swedish "Svensk Tenn" feeling. I love their beds who always gives me an excellent nights sleep, even with jet lag and the bright Swedish summer nights and what not. The bathrooms are old fashion upscale, which I like even more than modern fancy. The service is more than excellent all the way from the entrance and thru out your stay. Just walking into the magnificent lobby gives me a feeling that I will be well taken good care of here. Room service is an excellent choice if you are too tired to find a good meal outside your own walls. I tried most of the menu and have not been disappointed yet. Talking about food, if you have an opportunity you should book a dinner at one of Mathias Dahlgrens restaurants in the hotel, (Matsalen, Matbordet) but plan ahead getting a table is not always easy. Grand Hotel has a perfect location next to the National Museum and walking distance from Old Town, if you are touristing you have the sightseeing boats right at your feet and NK (Nordiska Kompaniet) shopping just 5 minutes walk away. This classy hotel has a high end spa (Nordic Spa & Fitness) as well, there you can find some Nordic specialty treatments that are worth trying out, as well as a pool, and of course saunas. The workout room is good, not the largest but they have all the equipment you need and treadmills etc are all the latest and greatest. If you are one of the Nobel Prize winner this is where you stay... Do I need to say more? read more

Location location location. This property is in the best part of Stockholm walking distance to Old a Town, Opera House, River Cruise is literally right in front of the hotel. If possible, get the room with Seaview and a balcony. I hated to admit we spend a lot of time on our balcony just relaxing, sipping champagne and sunbathing. Love it. The spa is also top notch with hot and cold pools, sauna etc. Some rooms seem to be more updated than others - as it is a historical hotel. I am sure the hotel will continue to upkeep the hotel by phases. Overall I recommend the hotel but need to get the room with view. read more

Absolutely beautiful hotel with rich history. I had an awesome room with a balcony overlooking the water that was perfect for relaxing. The service was excellent with a beautiful bar downstairs that served the best bloody marry ever. Super nice place to have a few drinks and RELAX. The spa was absolutely gorgeous. I loved that they had an ice bath you can jump into... and the location was amazing!! No need to rent a car, you could walk anywhere in all directions and sightsee for days. read more

Terrible service!! Came here for a martini and to hang out. I was disappointed by my drink. The vodka martini was obviously not dirty. You can tell by how it looks. I questioned the waitress and she was quiet rude. The first rude waitress I have encountered since I have been here. I suppose the customer isn't always right. I drink dirty Martini's all the time so I am well versed in what they look and taste like. Imo save your money and go somewhere less pretentious. I had thought about staying here the next time I come. But to over pay and get less quality and less service is not something I am in to. Many other great choices around. A great place for a traditional Swedish Smörgåsbord. A few warnings, though - they get unhappy if you appear without a reservation, so I reserved my spot through their website the day before. Strange, because I was one of the first people there, and it was not very busy even by the time I left even on a Sunday afternoon. Also, you can't cancel your reservation more than 24 hours ahead (actually I suppose you could, because what would they do?) I was worried my jean shorts and tshirt for hot weather would be too casual, but they didn't say anything. I liked the atmosphere - simple Swedish design with everything in white, with plenty of natural sunlight streaming in from the windows at midday. I am only an occasional pescetarian, but the herring was so delicious, and they had several different kinds. The salmon was fantastic as well. I think the key is to get there early - I ate at the opening of their lunch time, 1pm, so everything was very fresh and the hot food was fine. As other reviewers have reported, I'm sure it gets less fresh as the day goes on, as is the case with any buffet. I recommend just trying no more than a bite of each thing so you have room for everything. I also highly recommend saving room for dessert! It was so beautiful I had to take pictures. Really gorgeous and a range of delicious sweets. I also tried some aquavit as the traditional snaps to go with the herring - this cost extra and tasted terrible, but I'm glad I tried it anyway. Very expensive, but I thought it was worth it to try a full Swedish meal and a lot of delicious food. read more

Stayed here for just one day as I passed through Stockholm and this is mainly for the accomodations - I did not sample the food at the restaurant downstairs or what looked like afternoon tea service. Overall, this is a fabulous hotel - the staff are very helpful, the concierge is knowledgeable, rooms are very comfortable, and it is located centrally within walking distance of most of the touristy attractions in Stockholm. read more

I was lucky to get a deal with credit card points and stayed here for two glorious nights. This hotel is amazing: beautiful with excellent, kind service. My single room was relatively spacious and well-decorated, and the bathroom was also modern and clean. There were lots of nice little touches in the room, too, like an outlet adapter, slippers, and a robe. The staff members I interacted with were professional and helpful, and I enjoyed my smorgasbord dinner in the Verandan Restaurant. The location was also perfect: right in the middle of Stockholm. Stockholm is a large city, so I did take a few ferries, but I was able to walk most places. A huge highlight of my stay was the Nordic Spa & Fitness. It's hidden in the basement of the hotel, and I didn't realize right away that hotel guests have free access to the amazing pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The staff members here were especially kind and helpful, and they provided free flip flops and a robe for my time enjoying the facilities. (You do, of course, have to pay extra for their services: massage, facials, etc.) Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel! read more

We came here for the famous smorgasbord and were not disappointed! The selection of food was great. While I'm not a herring fan (there were 9 different types) they also had a few varieties of salmon and various smoked meat. There were lovely salads, both leafy and carby. The hot food was my favourite part of the savoury offerings - the meatballs and potato were absolutely stunning. My favourite part of all was the dessert table - there was an AMAZING selection! We were seated right by the window overlooking the river which was great. Service was efficient but not snooty, which I think is quite a hard balance to achieve in a place like this. It is pricey, but it's a unique and special experience so I think it was worth it. My only regret is that I couldn't afford a 2nd cocktail!! read more

I am happy to say that I have had the pleaure to stay at Grand Hotel Stockholm several times. It is every bit grand. The Cadierbaren is buzzing and you can find people enjoying a cocktail, afternoon tea or a snack at the bar at any hour. It is a popular before-event-drinks place but also a perfect spot for a business meeting or a little more secret encounter. The rooms are beautiful in the grandious sort of way and the views are for the most part amazing. Perfect white bathrooms and linens of the highest quality. The breakfast is one of the best I have had anywhere and the service is flawless. Every strawberry is a beuty, every piece of toast perfection. They also feature one of the most beautiful banquet halls in the winter garden. Amazingly beautiful it offers a grand exprience for any event or reception. Needless to say - this hotel is pricey. GRAND view -- we had a lovely window table, the view over the harbor and Gamla Stan would have been nice if it weren't for partially obstructing construction sites and scaffolding. GRAND setting -- elegant decor and table settings; the service staff are attentive and friendly GRAND food -- traditional Smörgåsbord offerings, high quality. This is what I can remember: Herring dishes -- almost a dozen, baked, pickled, with onions, with cream,, with beets, with mustard, and so on Salmon dishes -- gravlax, cold smoked, hot smoked, poached, mustard sauce creamed Meats, cold cuts -- there was a large variety, the two that really stood out were reindeer carpaccio and cold roasted lamb leg Salads and egg dishes -- prawns, crawfish, eggs and caviar, anchovy Hot dishes -- by then every cell in my brain is overstuffed with food so I don't remember much. I think there were meatballs for sure, a baked fish dish, and morel mushrooms. Desserts, coffee, digestive -- gluttony to the end! The dessert table is overflowing with cakes, mousse cups, cream puffs, berry crisp, chocolate everything I haven't even mentioned cheeses, fruit and compote you are supposed to have with some of the courses. It takes a strategy to get through the whole Smörgåsbord experience, and a lot of restraint to not to overload on each course. Grand Hotel Verandan is a good place to practice. read more

Probably my favorite hotel in the world. Stellar service on the order of the George V in Paris. Beautiful building. Beautiful rooms with super comfortable beds. Great location. Amazing room service. If you leave your room to eat, he hotel restaurant has two Michelin stars and the hotel "food bar" has one Michelin star. The smorgasbord breakfast in the veranda room (overlooking the water and the royal palace) is fantastic and has many typical Swedish foods. And best of all? The spa. They have Swedish bathing facilities - sauna, cold plunge pool, warm swimming pool with small waterfalls and fires in braziers, jetted hot tub, and steam room - that is free for all guests and it is such a heavenly experience that it melts away any stress and strain you have. Oh and the you can get a basic room for $250-300 US which is an amazing value. Of course there are many big rooms and suites (some with gorgeous views), but I can't think of any other hotel of this caliber where the rooms start so low. read more

This is my favorite hotel in Stockholm. The entrance and foyer are classy. It does get very busy though with people coming in and out. The location is great as it is easily walking distance to all of the major sights in Stockholm such as the royal palace, gamla stan, etc. I also had dinner at the restaurant. I had the smorgasbord. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of smorgasbord but it was probably the best out there for this type of meal. read more

I recently stayed at your hotel and had a very disappointing experience. My sister and I were heading to the airport the next morning and we asked the hotel staff advice on how to get to the airport. We presented a team member at the front desk with our flight itinerary and they advised us of the airport we needed to get to and were kind enough to arrange transportation to the airport as well. Next morning, once at the airport we have come to realize that we were at the wrong airport and couldn't make it to the correct airport on time to catch our flight. The advice that the hotel staff gave us made us miss our flight and caused us extreme inconvenience. I called to the hotel right away and was informed by Johan ( front desk ) that we will be reimbursed for the price of the additional flight tickets. At first he said he will use the hotel's credit card to book the flight and then after spending over one hour on the phone with him, he said that the person who has the credit card is not there at the moment. He then said to buy the tickets at the airport and the hotel will reimburse us right away. Despite the stress that this has caused both of us, you can imagine that when Johan attempted to make the situation right we felt that the hotel truly stood behind its five-star service. We ended up buying the tickets ( $350 each ticket ) for another flight with a different airline (the only available option that day). I send the ticket information to Johan however the email I received as a response indicated that the hotel is doing an "investigation" of the situation, trying to evaluate the circumstances. Just yesterday I received a phone call from hotel manager and after a 20 minute conversation, she concluded that "it is NOT their responsibility to send their customers to the correct airport, and they will not do anything about it". There is no consistency in the information that is being communicated. In addition I'm truly disappointed in the service that your hotel has provided to us and I understand that the final responsibility falls on me as the traveler to get from point to point but in this instance the information that your staff gave us was simply incorrect and caused this problem. So I asked the management to stand behind the promise you they proudly display on your website "to ensure that your stay with us meets (...) high standards" and reimburse us for the additional cost of the flight tickets as discussed. First of all, I did not stay here. the review is for the Smörgåsbord. What an amazing experience the Smörgåsbord was!!! Wow, I was in heaven the whole time and ate until it hurt. They give you a nice little guide that explains the best or traditional order to eat everything in. I followed that order and it worked for me. The pickled harring was great as was the smoked salmon. The salads were equally good. The warm food was okay but if I were to go again I would skip them completely. As for desert, not too bad but not anything over the top. The ice water was amazingly cold and refreshing. My glass never had a chance to be less than 1/2 full as there was a waiter and a waitress both attending to me. I would highly highly recommend going here if you are in Stockholm. It is quite pricey (lunch was the equivalent of about €50) but so worth it, I would go back for sure should I be in Stockholm again. read more

The bar has view to the interior bay of Stockholm, so probably an ideal location to enjoy the debut of a sunrise after you are done. Several years ago while still living in California we did a long weekend in Stockholm, arriving Friday morning, leaving Monday morning. We had the pleasure of staying at this truly Grand Hotel. Everything was impressive starting with the language skills of the front door staff. I heard the same gentleman speak English, Swedish, Italian, German, and French. There may even have been some Norwegian in there. The rooms were delightfully elegant. And the Smorgasbord was gorgeous. This is by far one of my favorite hotels. Spent the night here a few days ago and the staff was amazing as always, the breakfast bar has a lot to choose from and the service is on top always. Make sure to ask for a good view when you book your room, some views are breathtaking. It's definitely one of the more expensive hotels here in Stockholm but it's worth every penny. The interior and the feeling of everything from the decor to food is very Swedish (love the marble bathroom) so I would definitely recommend this place to any tourists. I'll be back! read more

This review is for the smorgasbord at the Verandan restaurant. Pickled herring is not my jam, so I won't dock them for the fact I didn't enjoy that, but I was disappointed with the hot foods, some of which sounded really good (veal in cream sauce, cheesy potatoes, etc) but didn't meet expectations. The dessert selection was fairly large but had almost nothing chocolate, which was a big disappointment to me. The bread & cheese station was similarly underwhelming. My (cheap) hotel's free breakfast buffet had a much tastier bread and cheese selection. I was also a bit annoyed that I was offered tea with no indication it wasn't part of the buffet & then I was charged (a lot - something like $7) for it. Stockholm is expensive compared to the US, but I felt like this was overpriced even for the area at around $65. The hotel itself lives up to its name and is absolutely stunning. I didn't see the rooms, but the lobby is one of the most beautiful hotel lobbies I've ever been in. Apparently the Nobel laureates stay here and I can see why. read more

Stayed at Grand Hotel a while back and this review is for their room with a separate living room. The beds were very, very comfortable and the linens were luxurious. The pillows are soft and fluffy and just the right consistency. The living room has an "antique" sofa and center table. The bathroom is probably my most favorite part, huge enough that it could be a bedroom by itself. Toiletries were in little Molton Brown bottles. There is a separate toilet, separate shower, and separate tub. I like this especially if you are with family or friends. Room service was efficient, rolling out a table with again, luxurious textile and even setting a vase of flowers in the middle. Utensils are very posh and plates are white and heavy. This hotel is all about comfort and luxury. read more

The smörgåsbord at the Veranda encompasses fine dining at its absolute best. The price for this lunch was USD65 excluding any drinks. Definitely a pricey foodie adventure but worth every penny! I would also recommend that you make reservations online in advance on their website. The courses include herring and salmon prepared tons of different ways; cold and hot foods; a huge dessert course! This is an excellent place for a celebration. The key to enjoy this meal is to get there as soon as lunch time begins so that you can try the dishes as soon as they're prepared. I really feel that this hotel was the best hotel that I've ever stayed in. The staff was extremely accommodating, and the room was absolutely amazing. I stayed in a room with a direct view of the water and the palace; so stunning! My room was very large (especially for euro standards) and my bathroom was beautiful too.
