Hosted a wedding here that was an epic flop. Grounds not maintained, owners/workers not friendly, rained all day and the tents were leaking onto our tables and guests, we were told they provided glasses, silverware, few tablecloths, etc. and they did not. Cats roaming the property getting into our decorations. Staff unhelpful. Would not recommend hosting an event here. read more

I truly wish I could give them 10 stars. The only thing wrong with our stay here was we wanted to stay longer. The grounds are beautiful and the suite we stayed in was so homey and comfortable. Breakfast was insane. Fresh fruit beautifully presented with a flower for the ladies. Main course was asparagus omelet, grits, and bacon. Fresh orange juice, and coffee with warm half and half. Tim was so welcoming and we felt like family right away. Fascinating man that we sat outside and talked to. Thanks for making our visit so fun and comfortable. Beautiful home in a lush setting with a charming host who makes huge, delicious breakfasts. What more could you want at a BnB? How about free beer, because they have that, too! We spent 2 nights in a large 2-room suite Andruid n a wing to the side of the main house. We were looking across at huge oak trees and down various plantings and to a chicken coop. We were the only guests at the time, as they said they rarely take multiples. So we really felt like we had the place to ourselves. We had a beer with Timothy and Debbie when we arrived, and they gave us advice on food and things to do. We sat with Timothy again when he prepared breakfasts, one of which was pork chops and the best French toast I've ever had. If you don't like talking to your host, that's fine as well, as it's clear Timothy isn't trying to fill his day by hanging out with you. But if you want the blunt opinions of a former Louisiana judge raised in parochial school, you get that as a bonus. read more

We got married here in October and it was perfect, despite all the odds. The night before the wedding there was a tropical storm and at the last minute plans got changed. We would no longer be able to have the ceremony in the backyard under the gorgeous canopy. Needless to say, I was crushed. But Mr. Timmy and Chris, the wedding coordinator, gave me several options for where to have the ceremony. We decided on the neighboring tent and it was gorgeous! Absolutely perfect! The amenities of this wonderful place were awesome. I had the bridal suite for two days. The morning of my wedding, Chris brought me and my party freshly-picked flowers and a bottle of champagne, all in the midst of him, his crew, and Mr. and Mrs. Ellender running around tirelessly to set up for my wedding. Any question, big or small, was answered. They made sure my wedding was perfect, despite the weather that posed a threat to my special day. Judge Ellender made our ceremony so special and even danced with me at my wedding - which was and always will be such a special memory for me. Mrs. Ellender and her crew did an amazing job decorating and setting up. It all went off without a hitch. Mr. Ellender was up before sunrise to cook the food for my wedding, and it was absolutely delicious. My wedding was perfect thank to these lovely people and their crew. I was visiting Louisiana to meet some Cajuns cousins!! I was not disappointed with the great hospitality there!! The judge welcomed me and we had a great chat about LA and its culture. The room was really great, I loved being in this huge house looking like a plantation. It felt like being in a movie :-) The breakfast was also to die for!! I know they also do wedding and if I didn't live in France, I'd give it a thought!! The place has some magic with the oak trees and the garden ;-) I totally recommend it!! read more

I recently attended a wedding and reception here. I was looking forward to seeing my friend get married. On the way there, it was lightly raining. We figured surely they would have a contingency plan for rain. We got there and the rain had stopped but the seats were wet. I noticed that the bar was uncovered and it was clearly going to rain again. Towards the end of the ceremony the rain started. we ran for the tents. We got under the tents just in time. Unfortunately the tents didn't help much. There were no sides to the tents and the wind was blowing the rain in. There were two tents. One had some tables, the cake and the food. There was a short walkway to another tent. That is were my husband and I went because there wasn't room in the first tent. The walkway between the tents began to flood and the flap connecting the two tents came lose, causing a huge pool of water to come down. Luckily no one was standing there they would have gotten soaked. At this point no one could cross over. My husband took it upon himself to go reconnect the flap because no one working there attempted to do it. If you were okay with walking through the little flood, you could now go through because he fixed it that flap. I felt bad for the poor bartender who took it upon himself to move all the drinks under the tent by himself. He was completely soaked and still working. There were also leaks in the top of the tent. Long story short, I'm sure this isn't the first time it's rained for an event and do believe they should have been better prepared for this. read more

I received less than stellar service from Grand Bayou Noir. I found them on Yelp and the reviews were wonderful and so I contacted them about having my wedding there. It took several days to get a response back, no big deal. I emailed a few more times and did get some response but not all my questions were answered. I decided a phone conversation would be better! I spoke with Debbie (owner) she was very pleasant and helpful. A few weeks later I had to cancel one of the nights. I sent an email, no response, I called and left a message, no response, so I emailed again, still no response. Unfortunately, I then had to postpose my wedding. Again, I contacted them, with no response. I had put a deposit down, which I realized I might not get back due to the cancellation. I have never heard back from them, in regards to either cancelling the room, or the status of the deposit, and it's been over a month now. It might be a great place to stay, but the reservation process was unacceptable. read more

I've stayed at the Grand Bayou Noir several times, and each time it felt more like home. The South's legendary hospitality is alive and well in the form of Tim Ellender, the owner, and his wife Debbie. Tim's breakfasts are not to be believed -- you start with a generous plate of fruit, then move on to hot breakfast: crab cakes with roasted red pepper hollandaise; crawfish omelet; bananas foster over pain perdu; boudin sausage and eggs; and if you're lucky, grits seasoned with Tim's homemade Tasso ham. Plenty of fresh juice and hot coffee round out the meal. The rooms (I've stayed in all of them) are wonderfully comfortable, with beautiful antiques and big comfy beds. The Ellenders aren't really committed to having TVs in the room, so they're there, but don't expect widescreen HDTV. The wi-fi works well, so it's manageable for business travelers, but there aren't proper desks in any of the rooms. That said, even if you are traveling on business (I was) it's well worth these minor drawbacks to stay in such a lovely old house with such warm and delightful hosts. The Ellender family has been in Houma for generations, and Tim was born in this house. So if you want to be a tourist, stay at the Holiday Inn. If you want a taste of Cajun country at its best, stay here. read more

Great plantation home, quiet, clean, very laid back. Beautiful old oak trees mixed with palm trees, felt like a Key West mansion. Drinks on the patio, grits and smoked peppered bacon for breakfast. The staff was friendly, knowledgable and helpful. read more
