This afternoon, I went to Granada Cafe in Echo Park with my mom and dad. I saw this place from Social Media : is only open three days a week--Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays--from 9 AM to 2 PM. I also heard that the owner actually opened up their own house and turned it into a cafe. I was curious about it, so we checked it out today. The house was beautiful and wide open, giving it a very relaxing and cozy vibe. Plus, the coffee and cookies were all delicious. We had two Americanos, a Peanut Coconut Cookie, and an Oat Halva Date Cookie, and everything tasted good. I originally wanted to try the Fig Shortbread and the Blood Orange Ricotta Cake, but everything I asked for was sold out. So, I just ended up ordering those cookies from whatever they had left. They close at 2 PM, so it was probably because we got there around 1 PM. Sitting there today, the breeze from outside was so refreshing, and the overall atmosphere was really nice. The staff were all friendly, too. It didn't look like there were any outlets to charge phones, but seeing people working on their laptops, I'm guessing they provide Wi-Fi (although I didn't ask about it myself). Note 1) Parking : street parking only. Note 2) I went to the restroom and they had good-smelling hand soap and body lotion, which I really loved. Also, the toilet paper box said "Toxin-free, tree-free." I was momentarily curious about where you'd even buy toilet paper like that, but I got distracted taking pictures and chatting with my mom, so I totally forgot to ask. Note 3) They don't have decaf coffee here. But the regular Americano had such a great aroma and a nice, strong flavor, so I really enjoyed it. Note 4) The water cups here were stainless steel. There was a water pitcher and cups set out on a large table in the living room, but to be honest, the stainless steel cups had a bit of a smell.

Really liked the ambiance of this sweet little gem on historic Carroll Ave in Echo Park. Surprising to walk up a driveway and find it tucked away. It is definitely a good place to relax and chat. While we enjoyed some delicious baked items, the coffee took a little time to get but, again, it is a small place with one barista. The staff were nice and sociable and there were plenty of places to sit inside and out in the large side yard. A lot of people were coming through with the line at times 7-10 deep. I'll be going again for sure.

So, like a huge nerd I was first in line this past Friday but they weren't ready yet. So, the owner said I could wait in the garden. Then, a group of like 4-5 ppl showed up and got in line in front of me. When they started taking orders the owner came out to get me and let the group know I was there first so they'd be taking my order first. I thought that was a really classy move. And, I live the block over so I'll be coming back regularly. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

The café is located within an apartment complex and offers underground parking, which the coffee shop validates the first hour is only $3. Street parking is also available. You follow the café signs to an elevator, and once you arrive, you're welcomed into a moody, beautiful space. DOGS ARE ALLOWED which is awesome. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area feels like a balcony terrace combo with a small but lovely view of the LA skyline. We sat here and our doggo enjoyed a nap in the sun. It's a great spot to work, study, or catch up with friends without feeling cramped or rushed. The staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly. They offer a nice variety of drinks, and we ordered an iced matcha latte and a hot Madagascar vanilla latte. For pastries, we chose a guava madeleine and a cookie butter madeleine. Everything is made fresh, and they actually whisk the matcha for each drink, which really shows in the quality. Our drinks came out quickly and were delicious. I loved my matcha, and my husband really enjoyed his latte. The pastries were also great, especially the cookie butter madeleine. This café is dog-friendly, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience, and we'll definitely be back.

The foam definitely had a banana taste and did not taste artificial or overly sweet. The flavor of the espresso still comes through and it is very smooth. I believe they also have food options available, but we haven't tried them yet. I absolutely love this space with its minimalist design. The ambiance is so calm, seems like a great space to do work or catch up with a friend. Decent seating area inside and plenty of patio seating. And their playlist is fire! I was initially intimidated to check this place out because I imagined parking would be difficult here and getting to the cafe would be inconvenient. But it's actually pretty easy to get there, felt like a little adventure. Park in the structure, you take an elevator, cross to the next building, and take another elevator, which takes you straight into the shop. Sounds more involved than it is, but just find the parking structure and signs will show you the way! Plus free 30min parking or $3 for 1.5 hours, pretty good for downtown, especially near Chinatown.

I decided to try something new and went for the Chocolate Forest Matcha... absolutely divine. Rich, earthy, slightly sweet, and so beautifully balanced. What surprised me most is how different the inside feels compared to the outside. From the street, it looks a little gahtto and unassuming, but the moment you step in, it's a completely different world -- cozy, bright, warm, and welcoming. It's the kind of space that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Damo continues to be one of those rare spots where the drinks are memorable and the atmosphere feels like a little hidden gem.

Had the opportunity to ask the owner if the HEAVY WATER name has anything to do with radiation and he said not really: it's more a play on how one is fundamentally changing something into something else and that's what happens with coffee berry to beans to coffee drink. No line, easy street parking, and the old neighborhood vibe feels genuine. I went straight for their signature Blue Heaven - an iced drink made with homemade vanilla syrup and blue spirulina. The blue hue is stunning, the vanilla tastes genuinely good, but at $9, it felt steep for what it delivers. I'm not big on the current iced-drink trend. Small and cute space inside, up front with big windows and comfortable blue tones, but the real gem is the shared courtyard in the back - spacious, dog-friendly, with string lights overhead. I can picture it glowing nicely at night. It's quiet enough for real conversation, which is rare these days. Service landed flat. Two baristas were working, neither of whom really acknowledged me beyond taking the order. No smiles, no real warmth - I picked up a "whatever" attitude that left me feeling neither welcome nor unwelcome. The drink came out quickly, at least. I'll definitely return to try their hot coffees, especially a proper cappuccino. Heavy Water has real potential with its cute setup and backyard secret, but the aloof service keeps it from shining just yet. Would I recommend it? For the atmosphere and a pretty signature drink on a quiet morning - yes.
