We came in expecting a supportive and understanding environment, and instead left feeling confused, judged, and honestly a bit shocked. After just a trial day, I was told my child was not invited back -- with very little clear explanation. For a school that specializes in children who may need time to adjust, this felt extremely premature and contradictory to what they advertise. Children with communication challenges don't always show their best on day one -- that's exactly why families seek out schools like this. What was most concerning was the lack of professionalism and communication. When my child was struggling to express something on the playground, I experienced a moment from a staff member that felt dismissive -- including an eye roll -- rather than supportive or patient. As a parent, that is incredibly unsettling, especially in a school that is supposed to be equipped to handle communication challenges with care and understanding. Instead of guidance or collaboration, I was left with more questions than answers. If this school is truly designed to support children with different learning needs, there should be more patience, clearer communication, and a willingness to work with families -- especially on a first visit. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect the inclusive and supportive environment that is promoted. I would not recommend based on our experience.

We were at a very well known school that unfortunately would not continue to educate my son and less I medicated him. Him only being in kindergarten that was not an option at the time for us. OakHill not only helped my son learn to read but now has made it where reading is one of his favorite past times. The teachers are wonderful and truly care about the students along with the principal and all staff members. We have been at the school for going on six years now and you cannot put a price on the confidence the education and happiness this son has helped and still and my son. If I could give 100 stars I would, there actually is not enough stars to grade how amazing this school is. I read the review above stating that the principal is a bully I'm sorry that that person had an experience in that manner. In the six years I have gone there I have not heard anyone else complain about that problem and frankly feel that it is false. Many many would agree that Oakhill and their staff go above and beyond to make sure everyone involved in your child's education and happiness is on your team. I am a single mother and father is not in the picture. I have not once felt judged or looked down upon. In fact I have never felt more comfortable and confident in my life knowing Oakhill is in our lives. Thank you Oakhill and Staff for helping me educate and raise such a smart sweet boy. We have gone to the best and we have researched it all. Oakhill Is not just a place for education, it is also a place that we call home. If you are so blessed to have a child that would need the type of education Oakhill provides then you would be doing your child and yourself a disservice if you didn't give them a try to see what options are needed for your child. Was the first place I ever saw automatic flushing commodes at back in the day. But they took them…read moreout. They dont have any automatic flushing commodes anymore. I feel like if you're gonna be one of the pioneers in automatic commode flushing, then you are obligated to continue the tradition of not forcing your visitors to kick a manual flush handle with their foot after doing their bidness. Totally disappointed with the lack of automatic flushing commodes (and also urinals). Especially after being the cornerstone leader in the fact that they were one of the first facilities to have installed automatic flushing commodes. But they have their conference rooms named after north Texas counties. So they have that going for them. Three stars. Bring back the automatic flushing commodes, and I'll give them another star.

The restrooms are clean and the lounge has a microwave and vending machines. They use up to date technology and the staff is very friendly.

My assessment is....its fun to go, but there is no incentive to practice handwriting on the 6 days my son isn't in class. They make art projects using fingers in shaving cream and use tweezers to grasp small items. Additionally they have an OT gym, which breaks up the time in handwriting class to work on larger arm muscle strength. Its expensive but what else are you going to do if you have a child with poor handwriting? They have a monopoly on this common childhood problem but thier efforts are not very effective. The old adage, "Practice, Practice, Practice" is the only way to improve handwriting, and they don't teach that rant to the kids like they should.

I felt compelled to review Bending Oaks High School after reading Jane T. and Carrie C's reviews…read more Just changing schools is not a fix for any child, but choosing the right one along with support and love at home can make a huge difference. Bending Oaks help save my son. He is an amazing, intelligent kid who was miserable as a sophomore at Southlake Carroll High School. After years of believing Carroll was the best we realized a change had to be made. As Jane T. and Carrie C. suggest, we interviewed, visited and "test drove" the school and my son made the most difficult decision to leave his friends and commute 60 miles each day to Bending Oaks. He has not regretted the decision and nor have we. My Son feels Bending Oaks, help change his life. I agree Bending Oaks is not for everyone and as we found out, neither is Southlake Carroll. With any private school a parent and student should find the best match. I like to describe Bending Oaks as a Dot Com and other traditional schools as big corporations. There is a mutual respect between the "management" and "individual contributors" and all are invested in the success of the school. The proof of Bending Oaks' is in my son. He was a child full of life who completely lost his spark and regained it at Bending Oaks. As a sophomore at Carroll we were afraid he wouldn't graduate. He is a senior now with a great ACT score and has 100% college acceptances one is San Diego State University. SDSU is the most desired and impacted California State University with an acceptance rate of 36%. We are so very proud of our son and so very thankful to Bending Oaks. I find the reviews by Jane T. and Carrie C. not only insulting to the teachers and staff of Bending Oaks but also to the parents and students who trust Bending Oaks every day. This is a biased but legitimate review by a parent.
