I got tattooed twice at the Grade A on N. Clinton (the location outside of and away from the mall). Dustin did my first tattoo and Corey did my second. I had absolutely no issue with the shop atmosphere, my tattoo experiences, or the artists themselves! My only advice is to actually shop around to gauge prices. I am a pretty timid person, so at my own fault I believe I overpaid for my two tattoos. My first tattoo was lightning strikes across the front side of my forearm, with a bolt leading down the back of my hand to my pointer finger. I had 3 words tattooed on my wrist to go with it. This tattoo was scheduled ahead of time and took maybe a total of 2 or 3 hours. I walked in for my second tattoo a year later; it was a 4x2 inch tree on my bicep. Both tattoos were black ink, solid with no color and no shading detail (aside from the trunk of the tree having slight shading). I paid $500 for each. Like I said, I didn't price check, so my own gullibility is what got me. I assumed $300-500 was reasonable for the first tattoo, considering the size and time/artist rate, and I got that price quoted by Nate at reception, who then told Dustin the price he quoted. Alternatively, Corey directly quoted me $500 for the second tattoo. This tattoo took maybe 45-60 mins, with the prep time included. I did tip outside of these amounts as well. I'm not sure if I was simply taken advantage of (I had verbally expressed that the first one was my first tattoo) or if I walked right into it and set myself up (or both ), but it's in the past. I'm super happy with how my tattoos came out, and while I might have paid more than I needed to, the team there is super chill and great at their art, from what I could tell. I recommend you know how to bargain and know the appropriate price ranges in your area for the type of work you're looking to get done!! read more

I had a perfect experience here today! The guy at the front desk was super welcoming, funny, helpful, and patient through my deliberating and encouraging about my concerns rather than being dismissive. I came in for a nose piercing and he set me up with Mariah who was also cool, kind, and helpful. Maybe this is normal but I felt weird giving my tip before I went back but she definitely earned it. DO NOT GET WITH ALAN. Paid in full for a full finished sternum tattoo, waited for any open artist for almost 3 hours. Guy up front kept telling me to "wait on this one artist, he's almost done" and said that about 4-5 times. I asked for the guy I had the first time that did a spur of the moment tattoo and he said he couldn't because he already told the other artist he was doing me. He started my tattoo finally and I recommended if it'd be a good idea to pause and start another day "as it was very late and I was tired from waiting so long" and we made the appointment for next week. I had family issues come up so I had to reschedule and I drove down only to find out he wasn't even "almost" done with the one he was working on (mind you he made the appointment date and time) so we rescheduled again. I also was living 2 hours away so not a close drive. I from that point on I rescheduled 5 times and it was the same response almost every single time. Im from South Bend. Scheduled an appointment weeks ahead of time. When I got there wouldn't you know they had no idea...Told them I wanted to talk to an artist about a my son's name on inner arm...wanted to add more besides the name. They offered up a tattoo artist that it would have been his first tattoo smh...I said no. So they sent a whiney guy from the mall...very sad and whiney he had to come. The weekend of Thanksgiving 2024, we were walking around the Mall. And saw the Black Friday deal. My middle daughter had been after her mom and I to get Snake-Bites. They are a no go. So she asked if she could get another set in her ears. We agreed to that. Two of my daughters walked in and one got her ear pierced and the other got some stars tattooed. The entire family was happy with the service. On Sunday youngest daughter and I went back in to get other piercings. My wife was very pleased with the professionalism of Mariah in doing my piercing. The 2 star review is for the artist I had and not for the shop. I won't mention the artist's name here because he told me that he didn't want my tattoo going on his social media account where all other artists could see how it was "wrong" and messed up. So, I'm assuming he doesn't want to take credit for this work. However, he works at the Clinton street location. It took two sessions, and I paid $2400 (not including tip). Essentially, the artist did a good job the 1st session and then completely did a 180 my 2nd session. The second time I went, he was rushed and he became very agitated towards the end of the session. He also seemed very tense the whole time I was there. It specifically became very awkward for me when he accepted a FaceTime call from his girlfriend while tattooing me and they started to argue while he still continued to tattoo. The call didn't last long, but I could tell his mood was negatively impacted and I believe this caused him to be unfocused and rushed to finish. The whole thing seemed very unprofessional and inappropriate. He also asked me come back on a random Tuesday for my 2nd session. I live an hour and a half away, but I asked if I could come after work. He okay-ed that, and I got to the shop right at 6pm. I didn't realize they closed at 8pm, but he seemed very bothered to have to stay late even though he okayed me coming in that late. His rushing is evident to see in the shading areas I've circled in the attached pictures. It looks like someone took a half-dry marker to my arm for a couple strokes and then gave up. I especially became really uncomfortable at the end though when I asked him to deviate just a little from the image he was referencing for my tattoo. He did not create any of his own art for my piece, and all of the parts were taken from Google Images. So, I couldn't understand why he would be so upset that I asked to change one little thing. He became agitated when I asked him near the end of the session to shade in the circle at the very top of the piece. The circle was not shaded in on the image from the internet he was duplicating, but in real life it is completely shaded in on almost all the real historical images found of Ancient Egypt. He was resistant to the idea but eventually shaded it sort of how I asked. He did not take the time to talk through his issue with the idea to me. He just did what I asked and then after it was done he acted like I forced him to destroy his work. Since he was visibly upset after he shaded it in, I asked him if there was anything he wanted to do to it to make it "better" for him and to bring it up to his standards. He basically told me that it looked good how he had it before I said anything, and that there was nothing he could do to "fix it". That's also when he told me "I wouldn't take a picture of this and I wouldn't post it to my social media account. Any artist who sees it will be able to tell that the circle isn't supposed to be shaded in." I love this tattoo and I think it looks great besides some of the background shading. It's unfortunate, but I'm going to have to go to another artist to fill in some of the shading gaps because I absolutely will not go back to this artist due to his abrasive and highly unprofessional behavior. The shop itself was very clean and well-kept, but parking was a little cramped. read more

The septum went okay, however for the labret, the piercing gave me the wrong piercing, this is an ashley piercing. I had a great experince with my tongue, so I returned to get my double nostril redone. Previously done at a different place, I had two on one side and one on the other. I decided to get two of them redone to start. They used basic L-shaped nose screws instead of threadless jewelry. They may have changed this since I did get this done a little bit ago. I was disappointed in the jewelry quality. I was also not given a choice of having the piercings on the same side or one on each nostril. That was because of the jewelry, I'm guessing. The piercer was nice but seemed to want to get me in and out as quickly as possible. For the record, they were not busy. They didn't give me a chance to say much or ask about the different nostril positions. He just automatically did one on each side. He didn't even ask me about placement. My girlfriend and I stopped into Grade A tattoo & piercing today because she is looking for someone to do a coverup tattoo. There were two men behind the counter when we walked in. When we told them she was looking for a cover-up and showed them a photo of what needed to be covered up, one man just stop talking to us, the other never even looked up from the tablet he was working on, said that it would be a $4000 tattoo. The one with the tablet talked to us a little bit, but never really looked up from what he was doing. Two more men came in, and never even acknowledged us. We went to look at the artists' books, that we noticed, the books were never pointed out to us. There was one book that had some nice cover-up examples in it so I asked the man with the tablet which artist it was, and he said "paul". I asked all 4 men...is anyone here paul? The lack of professionalism is embarrassing. After several attempts at scheduling appointments just to have them canceled with no notice, any appointments that were kept were begun well past the designated time. At my last appointment I was verbally told, after checking in and waiting 15 minutes past the appointment time, about a setup fee they added which was never part of the deal in the last year of discussions or paperwork. A reputable business will either disclose all costs upfront and finish the work as previously agreed. Grade A does not follow this basic business practice. Too bad because they have some talented artists, but there are a lot of other places to choose from so I will not be going back to Grade A. read more

Do not recommend Allen Bracknell for a tattoo artist. He will make you wait 45 minutes before he even greets you. Then you probably won't get your tattoo started until a few hours being there taking you over the planned time you expected to be there. This leads to an unfinished tattoo which will be very hard to schedule another appointment with him cause he cancels on you. He will then charge another $100 "set up fee" on top of the money you have already lost which he will not let you know until he is about to tattoo. In the past when I had gone, the employees were awesome. Dalia, the piercer is incredibly nice. However, I will never go back to grade a, especially for a tattoo. I planned on getting one done and waited 4 months while the artist was "drawing it out." He offered me an unbeatable price which is why I waited patiently. Then, he finally told me the design he drew out was "too busy" and showed me an image from another artist that was NOTHING like the original plan. Then when I asked about it again today, he said the price would be higher than we originally discussed, even though I was waiting on HIM, and I was told that he was sorry if he "put my work on the back burner" as if my tattoo wasn't as important as any other clients. He also got an attitude with me and said he didn't even want to tattoo on someone who was rushing him, as if 4 months is rushing a tattoo artist.
