November 15, 2020 went in with friends for my pre-BD shopping One friend got a small pocket book that attaches to her belt loop? Another friend got herself three soy candles and a pocketbook, THEN she hands me a shopping bag...and said "open it!" She gave me 2 handmade soaps with a cute dish bowl w/a bird on the rim for my upcoming bd. LOVE! I bought myself some "peepers" brand reading glasses (yellow/orange) A Spartina 449 wrist clutch of mostly Texas on the front and parts of Louisiana and Oklahoma on the back. See photo. Too cute. And a Texas Chica cropped tee...si' Neither of my 2 friends had ever been in Gracie's before....soo, I HAD TO" change that and TODAY was the day! They were highly impressed. So this store owned Bungalow Dry Goods next door (our favorite store in Galveston). All they did was combine the stores into Gracie's. Same great products and gift ideas!

I am not the typical Galveston visitor but when it comes to the strand, Gracie's is one of the better shops.

I was sharing my finds at an Antique Store in Houston with a fellow employee. The employee…read moresuggested I visit the Antique Warehouse on 25th Street in Galveston, Texas. I had just gotten off work at 2 pm on Wednesday. I made two stops before I arrived at the warehouse. I was disappointed when I read the hours listed on the door and the sign said closed. As I was walking back to my vehicle I heard a loud banging on the door from the inside. A man opened the door and invited me inside. I told him I thought they were closed. The man said you can come on inside and take a look around. The man's name was Scotty, and he was the owner of the place. Let me tell you this, Scotty gave me the tour of a lifetime. Scotty was helping a gentleman who had recently bought a church in Galveston, and he was converting it to a wedding chapel. We talked about St. Patrick's Catholic School. A school I attended as a child and what a shame it was that it was going to be demolished soon. The conversation took a dramatic turn when Scotty asked me if I had heard of the movie The Green Book? I said yes, but I hadn't watched it. He said neither did I, but do you know what a Green Book was? I said yes, I do it was a book that listed where Black People could eat and sleep during times of segregation in the South. He said correct, and then he asked whether I knew I was standing in a place listed on the Green Book. I told him no, and then he said well follow me. I followed him excitedly like a little kid. I don't want to give too much away but let me just say this: Scotty took me on a million-dollar tour that involved stories of Orphans, The Roaring 20's, World War 2, Brothels, Speakeasys, Peep Shows, Movie Theatres, Ghost Stories, and more. So, I would suggest that if you have time visit Mr. Scotty at the Antique Warehouse located at 423 25th Street. Galveston, Texas, and tell him Malcolm, who works for Galveston County, sent you. Regular hours are 11 am -3pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Don't forget to ask about a tour of the place. I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm a Galveston Native and I had never heard the stories he shared with me, and I've lived or worked in Galveston my entire life.

You're going to enjoy this store. Like most great shops and restaurants in Houston, it's in a…read morestrip mall. They call this Rice Village; sure queens, call it anything you want. It's a bunch of moderately posh shops in a strip mall. This store just happens to be a stone's throw from a breastfeeding store. Imagine being a postpartum mom looking for solace in pretty French bed linens and fluffy towels. Imagine what your toddler will do to your carefully chosen organza and chiffon fabrics. Another stone's throw, and you'll see a Pea in the Pod store. I get it; this strip mall is for mommies and up and coming mommies. This is not the shop or strip mall for poor mommies, only rich mommies. This store also carries things for guys like me who love burning things--candles. Lots of exotically scented candles. Who doesn't love exotically scented candles? And fancy dishes. Who doesn't need a set of fancy dishes? I've never seen so many old fashioned cheeses spreaders and functional cheese trays. Stroll for long enough time in here, and you'll think everyone needs many old fashioned cheese spreaders and functional cheese trays. Kudos to the fun gal working when I went there. I asked her if I could write an out-of-state check, and she said, "Sure; it bounces, and I'll go to Chicago and snuff your candle out." What guy doesn't need their candle snuffed out?

Get an image in your head, and you'll be imagining this shop: white french linen. Linens, blankets, robes, pajamas, christening garb, books tucked here and there, pretty smelling candles, lotions, and infuser sets, and linen-covered furniture. Did I mention the sleeping dog? He (or she) is vigilantly napping while customers peruse. I was recently on a quest for a teapot, and lumbered into this shop wanting to leave no stone unturned. No luck with the teapot, but I did find some candles that I almost couldn't live without. There were also a few Lollia hand lotions that I refrained from buying...even the purse-sized one that I know I'll regret not having. At first glance, the prices seem a bit rich for items that appear very basic. This assumption is incorrect. The prices reflect the quality and the subtle embellishments. Simple, sweet, and classic.
