I had a very disappointing experience at Gracie's in Galveston. My younger sister accidentally spilled a single drop of coffee on the floor. Instead of handling the situation with kindness or understanding, a staff member made us clean it up ourselves. My sister was wearing a dress, and they still insisted she pick it up. To make matters worse, they made my young sister walk outside to throw the trash away herself. Accidents happen, and this could have been handled with basic courtesy and professionalism. Instead, the managers and staff came across as rude, unwelcoming, and lacking any sense of customer service. We left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. Unfortunately, because of how we were treated, we will not be returning. There are plenty of places in Galveston that treat their customers with much more kindness and respect. read more

We've visited Galveston many times over the years, and one of our family's favorite stops has always been Gracie's. My daughters have shopped here regularly and have spent hundreds of dollars because they genuinely enjoyed the store. Unfortunately, our experience today completely changed our opinion. The owner/manager was incredibly rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional toward my daughters. There was no reason for the way they were treated, and it left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. After reading through other reviews, it appears that similar experiences have happened to other customers as well, which is unfortunate. Customer service should be a priority, especially for loyal shoppers. We won't be returning, and I would encourage others to consider supporting the many other local businesses in Galveston that appreciate and value their customers. read more

Yes, this is just another one of those fancy gift shops located along the strand in Galveston. However, it does have some interesting things going for it, such as the antique ceiling, which looks totally unfinished from 100 years ago. Inside, you will find lots of candles, toys, kids clothing, puzzles, gift cards, jewelry, books, and some ladies fashion wear. Everything is very well laid out and well merchandised. However, nothing in this place is cheap, you can expect to pay top dollar. Nonetheless, I have to give them credit for such a well thought out boutique shop,.....***1/2 stars. read more

Gracie's has always been my first stop on The Strand, but after today I will never step foot in this business again. We are moms with kids. Not vandals. One of my friend's children apparently spilled something prior to me going in. I went in, saw my friend's child in the toy section, and told him not to touch anything else. Then out of nowhere, a woman comes at me demanding to know what I'm "doing about my child." When I asked who she was, she ignored me, then snapped, "This child spilled something in the store, you need to take him out."That's when I said I was writing a review. When she heard me tell another patron that I was going to write a review she approached again. Once again I asked who she was. That's when she said, "I'm the owner." If that's how the owner treats paying customers... accusatory, condescending, and rude then this store doesn't deserve my business or anyone else's. We don't live on the island, but every trip to Galveston used to include Gracie's as my first stop. Never again. If you're so pressed about children being in your store, do us all a favor: put a sign on the door that says No Kids Allowed instead of ambushing mothers who chose to spend their money with you. Galveston has too many shops that are warm, welcoming, and professional. This one is none of those things. Save yourself the attitude and shop literally anywhere else. read more

I am a Galveston resident and I am very disappointed in Gracie's. They have a very short return policy (10 days), which is problematic if you are buying a gift for an event more than 10 days in the future. If the item doesn't fit or isn't suitable for any reason, you can not get a refund. I would have been satisfied with a store credit, but they require you to use it on the day of the return. I do not plan to shop there again. Buyer beware. read more

Another friend got herself three soy candles and a pocketbook, THEN she hands me a shopping bag...and said "open it!" She gave me 2 handmade soaps with a cute dish bowl w/a bird on the rim for my upcoming bd. LOVE! This shop is geared towards women. That is not a bad thing if you're a lady, but I am a dude. That being said, this isn't a bad shop. Like many shops on The Strand, it is difficult to enter with a stroller due to several stairs at the shop's entrance. The shop has numerous nick-nacks, childrens toys, baby items (including baby stella items) and other lady focused items. Too hammer the point home that it is designed for women, the shop was packed, but I was only one of two guys in the whole place. Guys: wait outside while your significant other shops. Better yet, grab a beer and wait outside. Women: Enjoy. This is your type of shop. read more

My family and I were kicked out in a very rude manner for not wearing masks in the store. As we started to exit the store I looked around and saw 1 out of 6 employees wearing a mask. Leads me to believe they were simply picking and choosing who they wanted in their store. As we walked by the front doors, not one sign was posted, not one. We left without incident. It's a shame. This used to be our favorite store and we've spent several hundred dollars in this store looking for items for our children. My wife and I were both wearing a solid black triple layer mask with a clear shield so the mouth can be seen with hearing impaired family members of ours but an employee stared us down then said "i dont think thats a mask" went up to the front, gossiping very loudly and came to kick us out after we were already half way to the door to leave and followed us the whole way to the door griping at us the whole time. read more

Gracie's had absolutely the worst and most horrible customer service I've ever experienced during my time at retail. I work in retail myself and understand how it can be tiring and can induce a crabby attitude, but this was absolutely unacceptable. My little cousins (tween boys) and I went to this store and they were treated with such rudeness. One of my little cousins went to pick up a spoon, and got IMMEDIATELY snapped at by one of the workers saying "it's not a toy". I understand to not want products to get damaged, but her absolute attitude and assumptions were totally out of line. At this point we didn't think anything of it and brushed it off but it worsened when my other cousin picked up a pair of children's sunglasses to try on and snap a photo with, to which AGAIN the lady snapped at him saying he was ruining the sunglasses and stretch them out. Not to mention he didn't even have them all the way on. At that point my cousin excused himself and sat them down but the lady went on to blatantly trash talk him in front of a fellow employee saying it was "disrespectful to play with the merchandise" and called him "annoying". I hardly think an middle school CHILD trying on CHILDRENS sunglasses at a CHILDRENS clothing store is ruining merchandise. We would have been fine with a simple warning, as a sales associate that's what I would have done, but the way she trash talked my family in front of our faces, automatically accused them of ruining their products, and acting out was unacceptable. When another family member went to complain, she was met with an automatic "f*ck off" and a command to get out of the store. Even when she asked for a supervisor, the sales associate waved nepotism in front of her face saying "her family owns this store" and so she wouldn't mind getting the manager. Gracie's has temporarily moved to the Footsie's location across the street (due to Hurricane Ike). They have approximately half (or less than half) the items they sell in the original store. I believe they're still planning on moving back but it was just sad to see how Gracie's and several other businesses and homes were really displaced b/c of Ike. read more

I am not the typical Galveston visitor but when it comes to the strand, Gracie's is one of the better shops. Every year for Christmas, I buy my husband boxers from a company called Hatley. Unfortunately I was not on my A-game this year. The company is based in Canada and I did not place the internet order in time. Luckily Gracie's carries Hatley products (only store anywhere near Houston). Unluckily I live in Houston. I called the store and talked to Veronica. I told her that I need boxers and she was able to tell me what they had in my husband's size. I choose the ones I wanted and paid over the phone. Then, I just had my dad pick them up (he is a Galvestonian). It was super easy and great customer service. Plus they always have great gifts for any occasion. read more

I'm so disappointed in their customer service. I've been coming here since I was 16 (I'm 26 now), I even got my first sticker for my car here. I've been getting everything monogrammed here for years, shirts, jackets, purses, ect. And for the first time I had an issue with the embroidery done. The people who worked there were so kind and when we discussed what I wanted we discussed a larger embroidery to fit a pocket on the front of my bag. When I received the bag it was smaller than we had discussed (and crooked) and I asked a worker what had happened and she was super friendly. Then the owner (she might have been a manager) stepped in and started saying she was there when I ordered it and that it was never discussed that it would be bigger and it had never been talked about. I was extremely offended with her accusation and tried to explain when I talked to the other worker she had showed me how big it would be and the owner/ manager told me no that didn't happen. I'm not sure why she felt it was necessary to insinuate I was lying but I no longer feel comfortable getting my stuff done there. I hope this experience never happens to anyone else read more

So there is a lot of really cool stuff down at Gracie's. Gracie's is one of those gift shops designed mostly for women, but men can get the occasional brownie point by shopping here, too. You can find all sorts of things to hang on your walls, your children, or yourself. When we went last, they had a boatload of really cute (and pricey) aprons. They also had a lot of really nifty old Galveston books and things. From luxury soaps to monogrammed purses, they have something you want. Our finds in the past have included: a faucet-shaped soap holder (sounds funky, but it is super cute), Halloween stuff in Clearance in July, books, a bathing beauties tin, cards to make my mother feel betterish about aging, and spiffy necklaces and charms. So this is definitely a fun store to hit up, whether you're buying or browsing. Yes, it can be a little pricey, but if you're on a budget check out the Clearance section in the back, close to the books. You can find some decent non-broken/non-crappy finds back there. read more

When I walked in to Gracie's I opened the hurricane Ike scrapbook. It is amazing what the storeowners of Galveston have recently come back from. The store was annihilated and they've come BACK! I'm not afraid of another hurricane! Gifts gifts gifts and more gifts. An excellent array of things to choose from. So many fun things to look at. Everything from baby clothes, jewelry, stationary, candles, art, toys, table linens and so so much more. The staff is very helpful and can find you a great gift for just about anyone. read more

The food is fantastic, I had the short ribs with cheesy polenta and it was melt in your mouth goodness, friends had the special which was fish with Thai sauce - it was perfectly cooked and the sauce was perfectly balanced, and beef stroganoff which was also delicious. Don't shop at Gracie's in Galveston. They are rude. I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing a mask which Governor Abbott's mandate states if you have a medical condition you are not required to wear a mask but out of respect for people around me I am caring a folded in half and then doubled over handkerchief covering my nose and mouth. I wanted to purchase a ring but the woman inside was a complete b---- because I didn't have a mask. She said there are "NO EXEMPTIONS TO THE MASK MANDATE "". She was absolutely rude and ignorant. So they lost four customers and four purchases. How is it that my handkerchief with four layers of cloth is not more protection than a flimsy disposable mask??? Oh I know because it wasn't strapped to my ears? Unbelievably rude. Unless you are desperate for something they sell I would recommend you shop somewhere else. OMG I LOVE GRACIE'S! I mean.. SERIOUSLY I cannot get enough of this place! My friend bought a big floppy hat that says "No Photos Please" and what do we do? Of course.. bomb her with photos! Haha! Gracie's is a great spot to find unique gifts or pick up something for yourself that you didn't know you needed. Older reviews seem to suggest that Gracie's started as a children's clothing shop, but I get the sense that the store now focuses on home goods and quirky gifts. Everywhere I turned I found something I liked--most of which were a welcome relief from the nautical decor and touristy souvenirs that fill many of the other shops along The Strand. I'll be sure to stop by the next time I visit Galveston. read more

Just happened today from a dear friend of mine: Open Letter to the Owner of Gracies on the Strand in Galveston: I am the lady who came in today with my special needs son, a treat for him for getting through a very trying situation. He has learning difficulties but is brutally truthful, so when you accused him of destroying the puppet display (although 4 puppets on the floor is not my view of destruction) and he told you he did not do it, your correct response should have been to offer him an apology and clean your mess yourself. If you are unwilling to maintain your own property, you have no business in retail. I have very diligently taught all my children to respect the property of others, I absolutely believe he was innocent, and you were nowhere near the display while he was shopping-in fact you were at the front counter going through your inventory at the time-and you simply assumed he was guilty. With all of 5 people in the store when we came in, you must be nuts to insist he do YOUR JOB and offend me so thoroughly that not only did I put down my purchases and leave, I plan to post here and everywhere what took place today. Pitiful. PS: The shopkeepers down the street asked me what was wrong, I told them, and they shared that they think you are awful, too. At least I left their store with a smile.
