Just got my tragus pierced yesterday by Allison! Here's how my experience was: Walked in, the shop looks immaculate. Very clean. The receptionist, I believe her name was Noelle, greeted me, was friendly and gave me some basic paperwork to fill out. Right after that, Allison came and got me and we went to her room. Again, this room looked very clean. She had music playing, very cool. She explained to me step by step what she was doing, from cleaning my ear, to putting the needle through. Nothing was a surprise. She had me take a deep breath as the needle went it. It barely hurt. Afterwards, she gave me directions on how to clean it and how often, which solution to pick up. I paid and was on my way. I had him do a pawprint of my dog on my arm, he nailed it. Very detailed. He was very respectful, friendly and talented. I went to Graceland for a memorial Tattoo. Adam, the owner and artist I worked with was extremely personable. I enjoyed my time in the chair despite the obvious pain. His body of work speaks for itself and the tattoo has set in perfectly. On top of all that, the style and decor of their parlor is top notch! They have a smart setup that allows a comfortable space for those waiting that isn't on top of those in progress of being tattooed. Lastly, everyone has been super friendly and approachable. Shocked & disappointed to say the least. This isn't a post about my own piercing but a friend of mine whom I tagged along with when she got her double cartilage piercing at Graceland, or should I say disgraceland. I've heard many good things about this place from friends, and I actually had my nose pierced here and the turnout was fine. However, my friend had been routinely cleaning her piercing for the last 2 weeks and the past few days it had been becoming more and more inflamed. Today she was in unbearable pain ; a throbbing crusty ear that was extremely red almost purple and HUGE. Graceland wasn't open today (Sunday) so she went to another piercing place where she was told the piercing would have to be taken out immediately. If she waited until the next day she would have had to go to the hospital because the top piercing would become imbedded into her skin. It's appalling that she paid 80$ to be in such excruciating pain, very disappointing. read more

After losing my dog in July, I told myself that I was FINALLY going to get the portrait of him that I wanted for years. I know a few people who have gone to Joe, so naturally I checked social media and fell in love with his work. I walked into Graceland in July and booked my appointment for December 18th-- yep the next available appointment was 5 months away! I ended up getting a phone call that he had an earlier opening and it was done this past week! I was ready to pay like 800 dollars because that's what other shops have quoted me in the past-- and with tip I only paid $500! So as far as pricing goes, I think they're incredibly fair. I am COMPLETELY obsessed and in love with my new tattoo! Now I just have to survive the healing process, haha! read more

I felt compelled to write a review after reading what I felt was a very inaccurate depiction of the service and artistry that I've become accustomed to from Graceland from a previous reviewer. I have 4 large tattoos - each of them done by an artist at Graceland (my 2005 right shoulder piece, and 2008 left shoulder and spine pieces were done by Adam, my most recent piece done in February was done by Evan). I have followed Graceland through 3 separate locations on Main St. in Wappingers. I also have gotten various body piercings at Graceland since 2006 from both Jesse (who did my nose) and Allison (who did all my other piercings). I cannot speak more highly about this place. My review will be about my most recent experience since that is freshest in my mind and I think that is most fair to the reader. For a bit of a back story, my husband and I got a gift certificate to Graceland for a Christmas present from my brother in law. (They were running a special that $100 gift certificates would be a credit for $125). I knew in my mind the tattoo that I wanted as did my husband - we wanted pieces honoring our amazing baby daughter with whom we are very much in love. My husband had a very vague idea of getting a pocket watch with the time she was born and her name around it with the date she was born (very vague description). Similarly, I offered a vague description of what I wanted - a spiral of the words "All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise" [from the Beatles' song "Blackbird"] with flying blackbirds getting larger and larger and flying out of the spiral. After evaluating the work of the current artists on Graceland's website (Adam, Pepper and Evan), my husband and I both decided that Evan's amazing black and grey work and his great work in designing birds made him the obvious choice (even though my previous 3 tattoos were done by Adam). We wanted to book Evan for consecutive appointments, and thought it would be much further in advance than only 4 weeks (which worked perfectly for us anyway). When appointment day came, Evan surprised us with some drawings based on our descriptions and they were out of this world. The quality of his artistry is jaw-dropping. He was very accommodating and made adjustments when requested (although we loved the work and anything we suggested was a minor detail). He also took his time and did a fantastic job on my husband's tattoo and mine overall. My husband's tattoo has some amazingly awesome fine line work - super straight and amazing. I have not seen that level of precise detail in person anywhere. As for my tattoo, I was very worried about how the experience would be and whether or not it would look the way I imagined it would since I was getting a large tattoo on my left ribcage. I won't lie - it hurt like hell, but Evan was very dedicated to it looking perfect. And it does!! The spiral is perfect, the lettering is great, and the blackbirds are awesome. He doesn't talk much during the tattoo (which I think is a good thing!!), he is very passionate and is a perfectionist. I was very worried about the size and location of my tattoo and how much it would cost (compared to how much tattoos of similar size and location have cost my friend at other, lower quality (in my opinion) locations. My tattoo only cost $300! That's an incredibly low piece for a large, custom high quality work, especially in that location. And my husband's was only $250. So I honestly take a bit of offense to a previous reviewer in saying "Go to NYC" because these tattoos are overpriced. I couldn't disagree more. And just a side note - Diego is no longer at Graceland. As far as I know, he opened another shop so the review doesn't really apply much to Graceland now anyway. I got an amazing tattoo last week at Graceland. I am beyond pleased with both the experience and the tattoo itself. I sought out Graceland primarily because it is where tattoo artist Miranda Lorberer now works, but also because it a beautiful space and close to where I work. I had been in there a few times previously to buy jewelry and to get help with partially closed up piercings in my ears. Allison (a piercer there) was great and very gentle. The shop is clean, has huge beautiful windows for lots of light and just feels like a place you would want to spend some time. My tattoo was something that I had been thinking about for some time. It's partially a memorial tattoo for my late father and mostly just imagery I enjoy. I went into Graceland to make the appointment during my lunch break, and had no problem securing a date. I wasn't in a big rush, so the appointment ended up being in a month's time, which was fine by me. I had plenty of time to gather some images to give Miranda for inspiration. We also spoke in person at the shop about my ideas and the placement of the tattoo when I went in to make the appointment. She was really friendly and excited to work on my tattoo. I was looking for a mix of botanicals and birds, which she has experience with. A few days before the appointment, Miranda sent me an initial rough sketch. It was beautiful, but not quite right. After emailing back a forth for clarification, she revised the drawing and it was perfect! Day of the tattoo I arrived feeling great, already knowing that I loved the artwork that Miranda created for me. She and I chatted for a bit and then she was off to finalize the drawing. Miranda's attention to detail and her calm nature put me at ease. She didn't start until she felt that the transfer was properly placed on my arm. I appreciated her perfectionism about it considering I am going to live with it forever. I was very comfortable during the tattoo, even as the pain of the tattooing process hit me. Watching the tattoo come to life on my arm was really interesting and like I said above, I am beyond pleased with the result. Miranda is very skilled and very personable. I highly recommend both Miranda and Graceland. The tattoo is exactly what I wanted and it was reasonably priced. It's nice to know that there are really great tattoo artists right here in the Hudson Valley! read more

I wish I could give less than one star. I've been thinking about getting a full sleeve done and from all of the weeks of searching for shops and artists I felt I could trust, I chose Graceland (which I would soon regret). I drove an hour away to talk to Evan. I thought out of everyone in that shop he was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately when I had asked one of the girls at the counter if he was available she told me he is only taking E-Mailed inquiries, and would get back to me if he was interested in the piece, or if the tattoo was something he started and hadn't finished since he was moving (which I totally get and understand). She then asked if there was anyone else I was interested in. I asked her who she thought would be good with a portrait and she told me Joe (who was actually my second choice). She then said she was going to go speak with Adam. I was kind of confused why she was going to go talk to Adam when we were just talking about Joe, but I didn't question it. She asked me what I was thinking about having done. I kind of told her what I wanted done, but not the whole thing because I didn't have any "reference pictures" due to the first time I got a large tattoo, and well no offense she wasn't the one doing the tattoo (but she was really sweet and pleasant). As I'm sitting in the chair in the main area, I can hear them talking from the next room. I guess she explained what I wanted the best way she could, but all I could really hear FROM THE NEXT ROOM OVER WHILE HE IS WITH SOMEONE say with an attitude "I will not speak to them unless they bring a reference picture." almost as if he wanted me to hear him. He had said a few other things, but I just feel he was extremely unprofessional. (I didn't bring a reference picture because the first time I brought a reference picture the artist literally put that on my arm and tattooed that, but since it was my first tattoo I was too hyped and didn't mind it much until now. Wish I could've gotten the chance to tell him that.) I do understand you should really go to any artist with reference photos of what you want, but I couldn't find any that was exactly what I was looking for and like it says on their website "Graceland can help you create a custom tattoo if you are having creative difficulty." which was exactly my problem. And I'm sorry I thought an artist wouldn't pass up the chance of a 'blank canvas' coming in who says "This is my idea of what I want incorporated, you can go ahead and do your thing with the rest.", but he didn't even give me the chance to tell him that. AND THAT WASNT EVEN THE ARTIST I WANTED TO DO MY PIECE. I get that you're a pretty good artist, but I don't want someone with an attitude like that to put his work on my body for the rest of my life. Sorry. I practically felt like I was being kicked out of the shop because when she came back in the room she in a nicer way told me that I'd basically need to know what I wanted, and walked away. So I just sat there for a minute unsure what to do. I don't feel I'm overreacting. If I'm willing to spend a shit-ton of time and money and drive all this way I don't want to be made to feel like a piece of garbage. Even the person I brought with me was uncomfortable and said that was extremely unprofessional. So that was cool. In the end I don't care how good your work is... you don't treat potential clients like that. Truly the worst experience I've ever had at a tattoo shop. Everyone I've told this story to completely agreed with me. 10/10 will not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

This is my 3rd tattoo at Graceland, and 2nd one by Joe. The entire staff there is amazing and personable. I wouldn't imagine going anywhere else for any of my tattoos. Figured it was about time to finish writing my review (which I apparently started a few years ago....oops). I've been pierced multiple times by Allison over ~8 years (helix, tragus, lobes, nape, others....) and have taken several other people here for their first piercings. Each experience has been fantastic, with a thorough explanation of procedure and aftercare and no upselling or judgment. Okay I don't normally write reviews unless the experience was above board. All I can say is, I read some reviews and looked at several places to redo my piercing. As a new york city girl I was prone to handle any and all piercing situations in the city. However, upon looking for a reputable place near Newburgh/Beacon area, I found three places that piqued my interest. I did not want to go to the regular place that all the little kids go to, been there and eh it was ok. I chose to drive out of my way past several other places, paid a toll and was so happy I did. GRACELAND tattoos was well worth it! I chose this location because of the reviews for Alicia, the piercing person, were outrageously good. As I was on their site it said Alicia is out and Victoria is usually in on Tuesdays. Nevertheless, I went. Victoria is awesome!!! She was personable, funny and I was extremely comfortable. I found Graceland because of my boyfriend. His sleeve and chest piece were done by Cookie. He is constantly stopped and told how amazing his tattoos are. He followed cookie to graceland even though it's about an hour drive for him. I got my first tattoo by cookie and an additional two more. He is an amazing artist and very professional.
