We were very happy with our first purchases last Spring. So much so that we decided to make them…read moreour primary source for this year's hanging baskets. About a month ago we revisited them. We had saved last season's baskets because they complimented our exterior decor so well. Because of that we inquired as to whether we could reuse the baskets, and specify what flowers would be included in each arrangement. We were informed that we could do so on both counts. And, that we would be informed by phone when they were available for pickup. We heard nothing further. So, yesterday we called and inquired as to the status of our order. They informed us that the baskets were ready for us. So, we drove there, about a 25 minute drive from our home, late yesterday afternoon. Upon arrival we inquired of the female employee at the checkout counter about our baskets. At first she was unsure, but she inquired of the owner and ultimately the arrangements were located. However, only one basket (out of 5) contained the flowers we had requested. The employee checked the order records and no, the arrangements were not as ordered. So, they were returned to their workshop for correction. About ten to fifteen minutes later they were returned. But, when we went to pay for them we discovered that the price was about 20% higher than the previous year. When we inquired as to the reason we were told by two, of the approximately 14 year old, female employees (this is a Mennonite enterprise) that the increased cost was due to the reuse of our old baskets; that doing so made it "more work for them". We might have argued the point further with the female owner. However, she had left us to riding mow her lawn, while carrying her infant daughter on her lap. Needless to say, we probably will be buying our hanging baskets closer to home next year. Too bad.

Kyle is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful as I was pretty specific in what I was looking for. Soil conditions are clay where I live and very sunny most of the day. Perennials are not always hardy with those conditions. Prices were very reasonable and I chose two when we were here a few months ago. Both are thriving and blossoming in my garden. The shop has many tools and items to beautify your garden. This was a pleasurable plant shopping experience and I will be back for more. Will add photos.

I also found the prices to be really reasonable, especially for some of the more uncommon offerings. I found some fairly unique succulents that were priced in the $3.99 - $6.99 range. A friend of mine had also asked me to look out for Thai Constellation Monsteras (becoming less and less rare, as it's the new "fad plant", but still), and I found a couple different sizes... all seemingly in proportional cost to what you'd fine at a big box store, but of higher quality. My mother ended up finding a pretty sizable hibiscus plant that perfectly reasonable in cost as well... and she stocked up on plenty of veggie & herb plants, including some heirloom tomato varieties that are hard to find. All their items are in really wonderful condition - nothing browning/crispy/dying, and I don't think I saw a pest (fungus gnat, etc) or anything the entire time I was in the store. Honestly, everything in the store just appears lovingly cared for. I'll definitely be back on my own, and my mother even said we should make it an annual tradition to visit here before Mother's Day and stock up on plants. Sign me up!

So, let it first be said that the roses here are usually at their peak in mid-June. Just yesterday…read more(June 15th), the Syracuse Rose Society held Rose Day at the garden (a celebration that includes live musicians and so on). While I didn't get to attend Rose Day, I was able to take some vacation time today for my most recent visit to the E.M. Mills Rose Garden... and to enjoy the lovely variety of rose blooms for this year! There are some nice benches and grassy areas on the outskirts of the rose garden (and then there's the rest of Thornden Park, of course) if you want to sit and chat, have a picnic, or whatever else. There's usually available parking along the side of the road inside the park (no cost to get in). The rose garden isn't especially large, but I've never seen more than a couple people in it at a time when I've visited... so I've never felt it's been too crowded while there either. TL;DR Absolutely lovely rose garden that showcases quite a variety of distinct rose varieties. Compact in space, but organized nicely. Props to the Syracuse Rose Society + garden volunteers for all their work on this garden!
