I used to come here quite a bit when I was stationed at Meade but today I got my hair cut and very quickly remembered why I quite using this shop in the first place. For military cuts this shop is generally decent as long as your hair is short enough for clippers cutting the top and you can tell them what guard they need to use. They do a good job with fades but if you need a scissor cut there is an almost 100% chance they will cut off much, much more than you asked for. I think they also assume everyone is in the Army or all the services have the same hair regs because my sideburns have never survived a visit to Grace. Today was the final straw for me. "A little off the top and leave the bangs longer" somehow got turned into "a little off the top and CUT THE BANGS COMPLETELY OFF." HE ACTUALLY CUT THE FRONT OF MY HEAD TO THE HAIRLINE. I had to ask them to correct it twice just to make it look passable and lost almost all of the rest of my hair in the process. My hair was a couple of inches long so I'm stuck looking like a baby orangutan for at least 3 months now because the barber couldn't be bothered to work with his eyes open. I don't like saying this because everyone working in the shop are always so nice but they aren't very skilled barbers and quality of their haircuts is inconsistent. When it's bad it's really bad. There are better options in the area that won't leave you regretting your decision for months. I will not be returning to this shop. read more

I am far from being a xenophobe, but I believe the staff's general lack of English speaking skills really makes for a communications problem at this business. The lady who cut my hair failed to understand most of what I said I wanted and did not want with my cut, leading to one of the worst cuts I've had in recent memory. Towatds the end when I asked for some hairspray to salvage what I thought was a poor haircut, the lady (who actually seemed nice) started to cut more off the top of my head, which I stopped immediately by motioning with my hands. Been going to Grace Barbershop for 9-10 years. I first went because I wanted my kids in a family friendly environment and stayed because I can get quick and quality cuts by Mrs Joung, the owner. I've gotten great cuts by Jerry and the other gent when she's not there. My now 18 yeear old son goes there of his own choice to get his fade done under his dreads. They definitely take care of our family. She's a great lady who I've seen given free cuts when regular customers are short on cash. I've been here in the Tri-State area since August and have been suffering though haircuts on base each time not knowing what the outcome would be. Problem no more! My new weekly, to bi weekly haircuts and military fades will be at Grace Barber Shop by Mr. Tong. I know everyone else has given this place 5 stars, and they are really really great at what they do. However, I am going to stick with 4 stars because a regular cut is $15.00. Which is fine if you get your haircut once a month or maybe even once every two weeks. But from a military mind-set, getting a cut here once a week, 15 bucks is a little steep. I personally am willing to pay it because of the quality of cut Tong provides. So I have come here twice, and I really hate to be one of those people who comments on the poor English of the people who are serving me, but I think it was a real issue here. The first time I came in, I got a woman who, while she did not listen to what I had asked for, gave me what was a decent approximation of the photo I had brought in to show her what I wanted. My experience yesterday, however, was much worse. I came in to find two gentlemen watching shows on their phones. One put his phone away and then motioned for me to sit down in a chair. I pulled out my phone to show him the photo I had of myself with the hairstyle I wanted. He just kind of laughed, nodded and pointed to the photo and said, "That you?" I responded, "Yes. This is how I want my hair cut. I want a size two guard on the sides and back, blended into the top where it will be a little longer so that I can wear it up or down." The guy gave no indication of having heard or understood me. Throughout the haircut he kept on stopping to go and look at what his coworker was laughing at while watching something on his phone. As I watched my barber in the mirror, it seemed like half of the scissor-making sounds that he was doing were away from my actual head, not actually contacting my hair in any way, shape or form. When he was trimming around my ears this cuts were not in a uniform arc, but rather a series of lines that did not look good or natural and were uneven between the two ears. He barely cut the hair on top of my head, leaving it rather long compared to the sides and back. (When I went and got it fixed at the Hair Cuttery, LOTS of hair still came off the sides and back of my head, so he didn't even use the right size of guard that I had specifically asked for.) For my neck he asked if I wanted "Crop or Fade," which I had never been asked before so didn't know how to respond. He was rather careless with the razor around my neck and ended up scratching me with it. When he finished he said, "There, it just like picture." It was not. I got up, paid, and immediately proceeded to go to the Hair Cuttery in Hanover. I got Heather Mumpower there, and even though I ended up having to pay for two haircuts, Heather was able to fix the horrendous haircut that I got from Grace Barber Shop. Even though the Hair Cuttery may have worse reviews on Yelp, the service and the haircut I got there was 100 times better. I will never return to Grace Barber Shop. read more

Recently moved to the area and was referred to this barbershop by a friend. Was told to ask for Tong and he didn't disappoint. before Tong I had been going to The Standard Barbershop in Fairfax, VA and wasn't certain i could find a barber as good as Tommy. Other than the cut services: I usually go during lunch on a Friday so there's almost no wait. I've tried him on the weekends and it's a 2-3 person wait. I'd call ahead if you're specific about who you want to get cut by. their waiting area is larger than normal with additional seats and tv in the back. It's a 3 minute drive off the bw parkway so it's conveniently located. I've been going here for 3 cuts now and won't be looking for a new barber anytime soon. read more

Hands down, Grace Barber Shop gives the best haircuts in the Fort Meade area and I've been to a lot. No matter what hair style you prefer military or non-military you will be happy with the end result. Much better than the PX on post and they won't have you leaving with a line on the side of your head or gouge marks in your neck. It is not open on Sunday but rest assured most of the barbers are spending their day going to church and giving back to the community. Great people, haircuts and conversations. I've been taking my son here for the past few years. The owner, Jung, gives great cuts, is quick and super friendly with everyone, including the kids. The interior is also aesthetically pleasing with hardwood flooring and houseplants. Also, just recently, a Vietnamese guy (can't remember his name) started working at Grace's. He does excellent jobs with men's haircuts, including fades and military cuts. I love t his place. The only drawback is that it's not open on Sundays. Would definitely recommend! read more

I have been getting perfect haircuts by the owner, Joung, for over 17 years. She is the best!!! The facility is top notch and the service is fast. Each barber has a strong following because they all do great work. Everyone leaves satisfied (except Andrew W. I went here twice. The first time it was a larger black man that kept checking his phone every two minutes , which was very annoying, but he got the job done and it looked half way descent. I went again today and got a younger Asian man. I asked for a medium fade combover and he seemed to know what I was talking about. As soon as I sat down he started cutting very high and very close, it was then that I knew it was too late. He gave me a high fade very close to the skin and left the top patch of hair almost untouched. I now look like a cross between a jarhead and a troll doll from the 90's. Since the top is so long and he didn't leave any extra hair on the opposite side of the combover, there is nothing I can do. He also cut my hair very high and short in the back, now I have to comb everything forward from the back to the front so I don't have a large portion of hair going down the middle of the back of my head. Needless to say, I am never going back there...on the hunt for a decent barber once again. read more

I've been living in Severn for over 5 years and discovered Grace's shop after 1 year of skipping from one shop to another. Grace's shop is family oriented meaning no rude conversations or content on the TV. The barbers can cut and are friendly. They get you in and out and I'm not one to want to sit for hours in a barbershop...I come to get my hair cut. I'm not military but love a high and tight and Jung hooks a brother up. I just had an unfortunate experienace at Grace's. I took my son there several times getting different barber's. However, the few times Jerry cut his hair my wife critiqued the cut each time. Therefore, I decided to try a new barber shop which I was satisfied with. Unfortunately, this barber was on vacation and my son needed a hair cut for this weekend. I ended up taking him to Grace's today hoping I would get a better result. We waited for a while since the good barber's seem to always have someone waiting on them. Finally, someone was ready for my son and it was Jerry. I decided to let Jerry cut his hair and if I saw something wrong I would ask him to correct it. Towards the end of the hair cut I asked Jerry to fix the shape up he gave my son. He jumped out at me telling me don't look over him like that. I simply said there is something wrong and I would like you to fix it. He became very offensive and starting sizing me up. At that point I was getting angry because the cut wasn't looking good and he was acting like I did something wrong by asking him to fix the cut. We began exchanging words and I decided to be professional and pay him for the cut and leave. It's unfortunate I had to experience this but I felt like he was trying to rush the hair cut and give my son a half job.
