The lady working behind the counter was very friendly when we walked in and suggested that we start upstairs and work our way down. Upstairs has an old arcade game, the Adams family reunion playing on a TV, a book alcove, and altar, a bunch of fascinating arcane things behind glass, and incense burning. It gave off warm, mystical vibes. I worked at two metaphysical stores as a teenager, and over twenty years later, they still make me feel at home. Even though to space is small, I recommend you plan to spend a good amount of time walking through to see everything. We were there for probably an hour, and I don't think we saw everything. The only difficult part is finding this place. It's among a bunch of townhomes. So, if you park by the chiropractors, which is a little bit further down, and you walk back towards the driveway, or the pinned address on a map, you will pass a building on your right, and then it's the second building on your right. But the entrance is on the street side, not the driveway side, so it's easy to miss. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Tucked away in the middle of some condos, we found a parking space for guests. Walked around the corner and found the entrance and we were immediately greeted. I can't remember the owner's name but she was very nice and gave us a brief overview of her place. The entranceway is small but there are plenty of things to browse from pins, stickers, and other goodies. Once we looked around we headed upstairs and where we found many curiosities! Palmistry, incense, spell books, taxidermy... it's all here. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at everything and didn't leave without purchasing a few things for ourselves. Be careful and don't wish on the monkey's paw!

You need to come here. I do not know another shop like this in Austin where Cantu's has been my go-to for the 21 years of me living here. This is a rare gem of a store in South Austin that you have to know about if you don't already. This is a very unique, quiet, and calm place to come in to whether you want to browse or you are curious about a consultation at Lee's Healing Center (located inside the shop in the back). When I need red mal de ojo bracelets (what are ojo bracelets, you ask? They are for protection! Look it up!) for myself, friends, or even for my baby nephew Cantu's has got them. Yup! She carries baby bracelets too to give to a newborn baby or any one who has small wrists to be honest. You will want to really take your time here when you arrive as there are so many things to see. Books, candles, prayer booklets, trinkets, statues, and tarot cards (also in Spanish!) can be found here. There should be no rush when you are here so take your time and gather all the things that call to you. Parking is located in the back of the small yellow building. Entrance is in the front off of S. 1st street. Be sure not to park in the convenience store next door where the sandwich shop is at. You will be towed! Be sure to say hello to Virgen de Guadalupe on the side of the building. The mural is beautiful (and old) but worth the stop to check out and maybe get a selfie with her. She really shines off of S. 1st Street!
