Update in response to the owner's reply:
To clarify, the revised onsite quote was $800, not $700.
I disclosed upfront that there were approximately 300-350 rocks and sent photos based on your website's statement that customers can send pictures to receive an accurate estimate. While I understood the final price could vary, my concern remains the significant increase from around $300 to $800 despite the information I provided.
Your response states there were "over twice as many rocks" as shown in the photos. However, I had already disclosed the approximate quantity in advance. That is why the increase felt unreasonable to me. Even if the final quantity was greater than what was visible in the photos, it does not explain a price that was nearly three times the original estimate, particularly when the estimate was based on those same photos and the rock count I provided.
My concern was never simply that the price changed. It was the large gap between the original estimate and the final onsite quote, along with how the discussion was handled when I questioned it.
If the photos and quantity provided were not enough to estimate the scope accurately, additional photos or an in-person estimate should have been requested before scheduling.
Original:
I contacted Grab My Junk for landscape rock removal at two properties. Their website states, "Send us pictures of the junk you need removed and we can give you an accurate estimate," so I provided approximate quantities and sent some photos by text. Based on the photos, I was quoted around $300 for the first property and $900 for the second, with a bundled discount of $1,100 total.
When they arrived at the first property, the estimate increased from around $300 to $800 before any work started. I understand estimates can change, but this was a substantial increase from the original quoted amount, especially after they reviewed the photos and details I provided.
What was most concerning was the lack of a clear explanation for such a large increase. When I questioned the price difference, the conversation became heated and the interaction felt unprofessional. This made me question the reliability of the pricing for the second property as well.
If the scope of work was too uncertain to estimate accurately from photos, that should have been communicated upfront or an in-person assessment should have been done before scheduling.
Because of this experience, I chose not to move forward. Based on my experience, this is not a company I would recommend. read more
