My wife and I took our 9 year old pitbull, Blue, here for an emergency visit. We were unable to get into our regular vet on short notice. Blue had what turned out to be a large mast tumor on his side, which had ruptured. He was in a lot of pain and bleeding pretty significantly. Creepy vibes here. No bedside manner. No compassion. When the vet poked Blue's side during the examination, he yelped and jerked. Rather than show any compassion for his pain, she threatened to muzzle him. The Dr. explained that old pitbulls are tumor factories and she was surprised he'd lived this long. Then she promptly told my wife that we needed to take him to an oncologist in Portland, preferably sooner than later. No offer to stop the bleeding. No offer of pain medications. She just shuttled us out with absolutely nothing but a bill for the visit. It was a complete waste of time and money. After a rough night, the next day our regular vet (Columbia Animal Hospital) immediately gave him something for pain and put him on steroids (which Mast tumors are apparently very amenable to) to stabilize him. His condition improved over night. In 48 hours he was back to his happy, joyful old self and ready for follow up treatment. Astoria Animal Hospital could easily done the same and saved Blue 24 hours of suffering. Instead they offered no help at all. It was dumbfounding and unconscionable. I don't know if the vet was just having a bad day or if this typical. But obviously I'll go out of my way to avoid this place from now on.

She, and every vet tech and admin professional, has been nothing but kind and responsive to us, and we visit nearly every month. When we moved to the area, we knew we needed to establish care, just like with a human doctor, and we usually have to wait two weeks to get an appointment for a non-urgent issue, but they always offer us emergency appoints on Saturdays with whatever doctor is working if needed and drop-off appointments can be schedule within a week, typically. Every vet there cares deeply about their patients and it's obvious. The receptionists are and techs are wonderful people whose love of animals and deep knowledge makes me feel comfortable entrusting them with our babies. Loving and caring for our pets is an emotoinal thing, but we have to balance that undying love with reason and patience sometimes. The number of patients being seen outnumbers the staff, in most practices, and they really do their best, working late and sometimes putting their patients before their own needs. We truly love this place. They take care of our family.

She needed help getting over her constant UTI issues and her other vet after unsuccessful treatments wanted to send her 75 miles away to a specialist. After visiting Bayshore, I learned we didn't need to drive any further than here! Finally, offering solutions and a plan for her to improve was available here! I will do an update if necessary but believe we have found a great caring clinic that communicates well with the patient and their human.

I took it that they were more worried about making money off of my distress than taking care of my loved one. They were pushing expensive things on me even before they even looked at her. When i'm saying "I can't afford this. I don't have the money for this visit. But I'm willing to go into debt to get her better. Next time i need a vet for her, I will have to put her down, because the cost is too much." They didn't care, they didn't blink.I they just try to sell me more stuff. It's sad that places are supposed to take care of your loved ones. Only care about your money.

The online reservation system, GINGR (I mean, what the heck is GINGR since its never explained on the web site. just click the GINGR button!), is a little difficult to navigate, especially if attempting on a cell phone. This is the only way to make a reservation; then you have to submit it and wait to see if its accepted. It also lets you see the estimated costs, which for us were very accurate. Tessa did a great and extremely thorough "intake" check in - discussing, habits, feedings, snacks, toys, etc. Once you've done this, I anticipate the next visit is much quicker. They let us drop off our own homemade refrigerated food as well. You can take their favorite bedding and blankys too. The employees here all seemed enthusiastic and genuinely cared for the pets. There is obviously ALOT of repeat business here too which speaks volumes about the quality of this operation. They also have a cute shop inside with lots of pet accessories and specialty foods. Bay Breeze gets an enthusiastic '5 paws' from us, definitely recommend and we'll be back!
