I love this place. The gentleman who was working the counter and assisting me with the do it yourself dog bathing station was so friendly and helpful today. I've never used a do it yourself dog washing station but I'm hooked after today! For 15 bucks, you get to use the super convenient wash station, plus they set you up with shampoo and conditioner, as well as a couple different combs for your dog, as well as towels and a blow dryer. Excellent value and makes dog washing a breeze! My dog seemed comfortable the whole time and now she smells amazing from the Apple scented conditioner provided. I'm totally gonna buy a punch pass and make this might go-to spot for dog washing! They also have a large variety of pet supplies at very reasonable prices. I bought two canaries, male and female from The Pet works Astoria. The store manager at this place Dave( that's the name I found on the receipt) was quite knowledgeable very professional. He explained quite a bit about canaries, how they get their coloring, which of the two might go well together based on the temperaments as I was a bit confused which ones to pick.He also made arrangements to bring a few colored canaries from The Pet Works in Longview as they had sold out all the colored ones. The price they offer is also very reasonable compared to other pet stores. The birds look very healthy as of today. To my surprise this place is so well maintained and clean despite of many walking in for self service dog washing. The staff here is very friendly as well. I had a great time visiting this local pet store and am very much satisfied with the purchase. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes exotic pets at a competitive price! read more

Not my favorite place to buy fish. The staff is terrific but the owner (Dave?) is perpetually grumpy. It's like you always catch him after he's endured a tax audit and fought with his ex. I live nearby and stop in weekly but I think I'll just make the drive to Portland. Aside from hating his occupation and people in general, the fish this guy sells aren't terribly healthy. He sold me two dwarf gourami that died within two weeks. I took a water sample in and he determined the water was fine. Then I lost the hillstream loach he sold me. Took another water sample in and was told it was fine. Their tanks frequently have dead specimens floating in them. If your fish dies within 24 hours, they will credit you but otherwise you're out of luck. I'm an experienced fish keeper with established tanks. Choose a better place to get your fish. read more

I am a breeder of angel fish and he wants to give $1.00 each for fish he will sell for $15.00 to $20.00 what a rip off. And also he wanted $150.00 for a 29 gal tank with hood only nothing else, I buy the same at Petco for $78.00. I really dont know how this place can do that but if people don't care and way way over pay then to bad for them. read more

Grooming station is really fantastic and spacious. Wish they had a few more tools for super shedding dogs like mine- however what they had was enough (just took a bit longer). Very clean store- lots of options on toys, treats, foods, for small and large animals. I didn't explore much outside of dog stuff. I was in Astoria last weekend and i remembered this great little pet shop from the weekend we got engaged and wanted to swing in and see if they had anything that one of my six furry kids just had to have. I ended up meeting the owner (at least the lady I think is the owner) and she was hands down one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was so kind and showed me the baby rats and told me of her wonderful rescue birds! It was so nice to chat with her! The store has all kinds of great goodies and a impressive fish selection! Nope - for a $15 wash you get maybe a teaspoon of soap. The shampoo bottle - about 16 ounces - is so diluted your dog comes out smelling like wet dog instead of clean dog. Both my dogs have field coats and neither of them came clean.For $15 at most places you get unlimited shampoo and conditioner your wipes and treats. None of the above happen here. Conditioner is five dollars extra and I'm sure that is super diluted too. read more

This store will have everything you need for any animal, any pet supply you could think of they got but... my boyfriend is really into saltwater aquariums and decided to check out their set up here. He was very disappointed in the livestock and care of the saltwater aquariums, most of the fish looked sickly and the tanks were filled with a pest anemone and brown Algae. There was a 5-6 inch blue tang in a 15 gallon tank which is 5 times smaller than the tank it should be in. All the other animals in the store looked healthy and happy even the freshwater fish but if I could ask for one thing from this pet store is better care of their saltwater fish. read more

I have been going here for years and have shopped here longer than I should have because I try to shop local mom-and-pop shops. Several times I have had a positive experience if the gentleman is working. He's knowledge and listens to determine which items are best for my pups. However, there is a gal that works there who is in her 40's. She, without fail, criticizes the care of my pets. I consider my dogs to be my fur babies. They are grain-free, well groomed, exercised, trained and extremely loved. I educate myself to the best of my abilities to be informed on canines and their care. We recently got a puppy and wanted to get him some things to chew on. I wanted to get some small 'made in the U.S.A.' raw hide rolls. When I think of more natural and higher quality items, I think of The Pet Works, so we swung by. Once there, we asked the lady if they had small rolled raw hides and she chastised me for allowing my dogs to gnaw on them. She went into a lecture on how they cannot digest raw hide. While she was preaching on how bad they are and how they don't sell them....there were larger rolls of raw hide on the shelf right next to me. I am aware that allowing a dog to eat too much raw hide can clog their systems. I'm also aware that wild dogs and wolves chew on skin as part of their diets. Raw hide is dried skin. I have a 3 pound toy poodle puppy...he's not going to have a diet of only chewies. If anything, he'll go through two a month...maximum. He eats extremely expensive puppy food and it is supplemented with various treats and products to chew on. The gal then took us around the store to show us different substitutes. When we communicated our dogs preferences and how we have a pork-free home, she completely ignored or failed to understand our requests. She showed us pork products and antlers, which my dogs won't touch. Fortunately, another customer came in and she directed herself towards them. She then went into a religious and politically conservative spew. She has done this every time I've shopped here and she's been working. She once attempted to convert me to Christianity. To each there own, but don't preach at customers who just want pet supplies. At this point my husband and I decided that online shopping is what's best for us...or Petco in a pinch. We believe in voting with our dollars and sadly, that means taking our dollars out of the community. read more

We took our Golden Retriever her this morning for the self-serve wash, $15 It was clean and functional. He is a big dog and there was plenty of room for him. There were several choices of shampoo and conditioners and they provided clean towels. We then dried him with their dryers. They had a nice selection of brushes though we brought our own. The groomer/staff also trimmed his nails. Quick, kind and friendly!! $5 Excellent and we will be back next time we are in town. read more

Outstanding Store/Grooming center. Knowledgeable staff who obviously love animals and their job. Prices are excellent too. I had taken my dog to a Veterinarian Clinic for a nail trimming as her nails were rather long and I figured better to have trim done at vet clinic as the quicks were certainly going to be an issue. Vet Tech returned to waiting room with my dog after two minutes or less and said she trimmed the nails but was not able to remove much nail as quicks were an issue, " Mind you that a dog walking on toenails rather than paw pads is an issue". Cost of nail trim at vet clinic was nearly $20.00 and vet tech did a truly pathetic job. I later took my dog to Petworks for a nail trim and Christal did an outstanding job, she took time with my dog to do a proper nail trim with removing plenty of nail yet not injuring the quicks and this outstanding nail trim only cost a mere $5.00. I am so happy to now know I can take my dog to Petworks where she can have a fantastic nail trim by caring and knowledgeable staff such as Christal. Keep up the good work Christal and thank you for your caring and competent service. A very happy petworks customer who will never again have to drive my dog all the way to Warrenton for an expensive and very poor nail trim. I strongly recommend Petworks to any pet owner who loves their pet and wishes to receive the absolute best care when it comes to a nail trim. read more
