Sitting on the blanket getting ready to say goodbye.
    Paula J.

My dog, Sasha, was seen by another local-ish ( not Seaside) vet for years. However, I felt a disconnect and not as though the vet really vibes with my dog. That all changed when I switched vets to Seaside Pet Clinic. The office staff, vet techs and Dr all loved my dog and he LOVED them. Was never fearful of his visits or showed the slightest hesitancy. The last two years of care surpassed my expectations and I always felt it was less expensive than any vet we had visited previously. May 13th was Sasha's last appointment. His health ( age related) had diminished to the point that his limited mobility, debilitating arthritis and last weeks loss of bowel control determined his quality of life was compromised beyond reason. The vet was compassionate, explanatory and spoke directly to Sasha. He explained the process and waited for my direction for the injections. Once the last injection was given, he waited several minutes until he checked his heart to determine when his heart had stopped. I cradled my dog and soothed him with kind words and quiet tones during both shots. It wasn't until Sasha was officially dead that I asked if I could take some personal time for my goodbyes. After I felt comfortable leaving him a staff member helped me obtain a tuft of hair to remember him by that will accompany his ashes and paw print. When I left the exam room I noticed a sign on the counter asking that people 'speak in hushed tones as someone was saying goodbye to their fur baby'. I noticed Sasha's name on their chalkboard below the counter. Those personal touches, animal care, human care and compassion are some of the reasons I drove to the beach from Portland (just moved) to have him euthanized at his favorite clinic with his favorite staff. Thank you again for your outpouring of love, care and kindness to both of us during the absolute hardest part of belonging to Sasha.

She, and every vet tech and admin professional, has been nothing but kind and responsive to us, and we visit nearly every month. When we moved to the area, we knew we needed to establish care, just like with a human doctor, and we usually have to wait two weeks to get an appointment for a non-urgent issue, but they always offer us emergency appoints on Saturdays with whatever doctor is working if needed and drop-off appointments can be schedule within a week, typically. Every vet there cares deeply about their patients and it's obvious. The receptionists are and techs are wonderful people whose love of animals and deep knowledge makes me feel comfortable entrusting them with our babies. Loving and caring for our pets is an emotoinal thing, but we have to balance that undying love with reason and patience sometimes. The number of patients being seen outnumbers the staff, in most practices, and they really do their best, working late and sometimes putting their patients before their own needs. We truly love this place. They take care of our family.

If you're used to veterinary care in a city like Portland or Seattle, you'll find that the prices are extremely reasonable as well. I came here when my 10 year old pitbull Blue developed a Mast tumor. We wanted advice on surgery and, since mast tumors are usually cancerous, Blue's prospects. We had a thoughtful discussion and had Blue's surgery performed here. They took the time to discussion options and prospects and costs. We proceeded with surgery, and they were great again. Surgery was uneventful and Blue bounced back fast. Not too long thereafter, however, Blue's cancer moved to his lymph system, and then we needed palliative care. Again, really helpful, compassionate care and support. They helped us manage Blue's health, and eventually, we had to put him down. Again, we did this here at Oceanside. And again, they were professional and compassionate and just wonderful people. I just really appreciate the care they provided.

All I got from here was "I don't know". I finally at least got the name of the place but told I could call them and ask. It would have been nice if they didn't know if they would have offered to at least call. I also didn't think to ask but didn't even get a pawprint. Granted, I didn't think to ask the Dr any of this as my concentration was on my pet so perhaps it was just the front staff who didn't know. I did receive a nice card from the Dr which I appreciated.

My wife and I took our 9 year old pitbull, Blue, here for an emergency visit. We were unable to get into our regular vet on short notice. Blue had what turned out to be a large mast tumor on his side, which had ruptured. He was in a lot of pain and bleeding pretty significantly. Creepy vibes here. No bedside manner. No compassion. When the vet poked Blue's side during the examination, he yelped and jerked. Rather than show any compassion for his pain, she threatened to muzzle him. The Dr. explained that old pitbulls are tumor factories and she was surprised he'd lived this long. Then she promptly told my wife that we needed to take him to an oncologist in Portland, preferably sooner than later. No offer to stop the bleeding. No offer of pain medications. She just shuttled us out with absolutely nothing but a bill for the visit. It was a complete waste of time and money. After a rough night, the next day our regular vet (Columbia Animal Hospital) immediately gave him something for pain and put him on steroids (which Mast tumors are apparently very amenable to) to stabilize him. His condition improved over night. In 48 hours he was back to his happy, joyful old self and ready for follow up treatment. Astoria Animal Hospital could easily done the same and saved Blue 24 hours of suffering. Instead they offered no help at all. It was dumbfounding and unconscionable. I don't know if the vet was just having a bad day or if this typical. But obviously I'll go out of my way to avoid this place from now on.
