Sintra is a small town but it is rich in history. I only had a half day here and to make the most of it, I booked a food tour.
We were fortunate that many restaurants are reopening post-COVID so there is a good variety of stuff to eat and try here. I met up with my tour guide as scheduled and we started right on time. I guess because tourism is still recovering, it was just me today. A private tour and I appreciate the tour guide enthusiastically continuing with the effort for just me. Thank you!
We made a handful of stops at different restaurants and eateries in town. I got to enjoy chorizo and cheese with red wine, cod croquettes with vinho verde, pastries with espresso, and finally sardines with a fabulous red wine. A true variety and completely customized for what I wanted to try and also, what's open. A good spectrum of Sintra eats, avoiding the "sandwich joints" because we had plenty of time.
Along the three hours, we talked quite a lot, my guide pointed out many of the sites of Sintra and shared stories of Sintra history and culture. At the end of the tour, she walked me back to the train station where I caught my ride back to Lisbon-Rossio. It was a fabulous tour of tastes and textures and stories. I had a whole lot of fun and left with a full stomach and just a little bit of a buzz. I definitely recommend!
