Firstly, I went in and was actually listened to rather than having the Dr wait for me to stop talking. He never interrupted me and let me interrupt him, when I did so accidentally. I regularly feel Dr's don't listen to me. Sure, their training is in medicine and they are the experts, but I am certainly the expert at what I am experiencing. If I feel regularly shut down as a man, I can only imagine how women are made to feel with most doctors. So this first off was an excellent sign. Secondly, he was friendly, upbeat and polite. That's not necessary but a nice touch. On to the checkup. He was methodical. He told me exactly what he was doing. When I told him I thought my BP was a little high on his machine, rather than ignoring me he did a second check to ensure it was correct. He was knowledgeable about my ailments, my medications and I didn't get the feeling he was just trying to rush me out the door to increase his turnover cash. This guy is aces in my books and I changed my primary care physician to him today. I'm angry I didn't find a doctor like him sooner. I've only seen him once and his businessman paraphernalia is a little disconcerting. I like money too but it makes me uneasy. I had to sign a form saying I am responsible for the full final cost. Most doctors I've seen will charge a high amount for the insurance and "forgive" the rest. Gotta say that makes me uneasy as well. We'll see how it goes going forward in terms of how badly it hits my wallet and I will update.

Genuinely interested in the wellbeing of his patients, Dr. Martin was one of the best doctors I've ever had in NYC. In fact, I liked Dr. Martin so much that I kept him as my PCP even after I moved away from this neighborhood. Why the negative rating, then, you ask? Well, it all started when my wife was half way through her pregnancy, and we started considering our options for a pediatrician. Since Dr. Martin is also a pediatrician, I thought it would be great and convenient to have him as both my PCP and pediatrician for my soon-to-arrive new baby. Dr. Martin suggested that I set up an appointment so that my wife could meet him, and that's where everything collapsed. I called the office several times back in May 2018, trying to get an appointment for my pregnant wife. I was always met with the same response: "Dr. Martin is very busy; he will call you back". I tried to ask the receptionist why couldn't she just look at the calendar and tell me when the next available appointment could be. Always the same, nonsensical answer: "Dr. Martin is very busy; he will call you back". The thing is, Dr. Martin never called me back; nobody from his office called me back, ever. It's now been 5 months, my baby was born in September, and we had to pick a pediatrician. I don't know why the Doctor/office adopted this passive-aggressive attitude, why they refused to set up an appointment for a regular patient, or why the Doctor just never called me back. This kind of behavior is not only disrespectful, but also highly unprofessional. Time to look for a new primary care physician.

Short story: Dr. Glass is nice and her office is clean and the staff friendly, but don't make her…read moreyour primary care doctor unless you have unlimited time to visit her and lots of money to pay for copays on the appointments. She will make you come in for an appointment for the smallest and most unnecessary things over and over again. When I came in for my first appointment, I found the office space to be nice, the staff to be helpful, and the wait time to be appropriate. I also thought that while Dr. Glass was quirky she was attentive and knowledgable. The trouble came afterward. I had seen her for my yearly physical, although because I deal with a chronic condition that requires a specialist I am frequently in doctor's offices and get tests on all my basic numbers. But Dr. Glass tested for all of my vitamin levels, as is routine for a yearly check up. In order to give me the results, however, she insisted at first that I come in for another appointment -- which would take me away from work, using up my paid time off, and also cost me a copay. I insisted I couldn't and she finally gave in and had a nurse read me my results over the phone. That was okay. But then this week I needed to refill a prescription for a drug I use every so often to treat a very minor condition that I've lived with my whole life. I've safely taken this drug for over a decade and it has no serious side effects. But when she had put in my prescription for it after my first visit, she gave me no refills. When I called the office to request they submit a refill, she refused to do so, saying I had to come in for an appointment because I was taking the drug too often. I had, in fact, just taken it for the first time since seeing her for my yearly checkup. She refused to budge, saying if I couldn't come in and see her (again eating into my paid time off and costing me a copay), I had to go to an urgent care center, which is even more costly. I've found a new doctor, and I suggest you find someone else as well.

During a discussion about a medication that I've been taking for over two years, I felt that she questioned my knowledge about the medication and used language that was extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable coming from a physician in a medical setting. Some of the terminology she used was also not medically or anatomically accurate. I expected a much more professional and respectful approach. It was particularly disappointing given my otherwise positive experiences with this practice over the years. I hope the practice takes feedback like this seriously and considers how physicians communicate with patients about sensitive topics.
