In my first two cycles alone met my goals of establishing a sub 5 minute mile and then running a sub 17 minute 5k. I'm less than 30 seconds from a personal record that is 30 years old. Of course I've never trained as much in my life. My goal in cycle 3 is to reach my PR in the 5k. Surprisingly the secret is increasing volume and running much slower than I was used to at least for the base phase. Run slow to get fast. Coach Mederos is methodical and helps runners who are able to run comfortably at their goal race reach their full potential. The group meets early however. I've been doing all my training between the hours of 4-6am, which is just fine by me. It takes a little bit of adjusting to this type of schedule but once you are hooked it's a good group to converse with. If you are self directed however, but need a schedule of runs as well as good advice this is definitely the coach for you.

Update---- After some time, our paths did go separate ways but this gym still had great potential to take control in the area. The management needs more organized systems in place, there needs to be a solid cleaning team and more repairs of the facility. Especially at time like this during a pandemic, we need determined business owners that are willing and able to make their businesses top tie services for their community. I have now found a way to come out for training at least 3 days out of the week. Ralph the owner is awesome he writes a workout program on his board and helps you step by step until he sees that your confident enough to move to the next workout. The gym is very private and is fully stocked with the best equipment. I have also noticed that many High School students that play sports are training in this facility helping them reach their full potential. My son came and LOVED training here! Showing him that exercising and eating well is just as important as doing good in school. I can see the confidence building and I'm loving it!! Hands on Miami has been an amazing discovery for me…read more I have been a regular volunteer since January- giving me plenty opportunities to get involved with the community. But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.

They are a great central source of various community initiatives and projects in the Dade County area. It does not matter how old your are or what you like to do, there is something for everyone @ HOM that wants to give back to their community. There are projects just on the weekend, weekday days and evenings, just for kids, just for adults, for the whole family to join too. So really time can't be an excuse! The staff is paid too little to care about any of it, and they never fully clean the gym area. There's used wipes in the cup holder of nearly every machine. The lifeguard is on their phone or blasting music on a speaker, and the saunas smell like pee. What a waste of university $ the way they run this place! The locker rooms should've been updated at least once since the 80s with the amount every student pays for tuition being $65,000... this gym continues to disappoint, and to make things worse they sell Fairlife farms milk at the food counter, a known animal abuser who settled the class action brought against them for $21 million. What a disgrace to still be selling their products. Do better U!
