The skiing is excellent. The food is horrible and the counter staff are miserable. It seem like they are doing us a favor than having a job that pays them a wage.

The mountain is fricken awesome, lots of trails and lifts, including a warm gondola to keep your toes on between runs! Popular enough for me to see random friends unplanned. The personnel in the lodge at times could be unhelpful, not explaining the soup special well in the mess hall and sending you to the wrong line when trying to get rentals, which is frustrating but hey, not surprising. The highlight of our trip was when I thought I had lost my wallet in the shuttle, and the drivers coordinated so that I could search some of the shuttles. I ended up finding it! Tip these boys, they are awesome and make the trek to and from the parking lot easy :)

Great mountain with lots of trails and not a super huge crowd. I feel like it's a hidden gem (I shouldn't even been writing this or telling anyone but you're welcome). They groom often which is helpful. Lodge is decent with a lot of spots to go and put things down.

We came here towards the end of the season and sadly didn't have a great experience. I know this is the luck of the draw with an outdoor seasonal sport that depends on conditions but the way it was handled wasn't great. We pre bought tickets for the date we were available and in town. It happened to rain and be a little windy the morning we went and apparently the top of the mountain iced over, during the night. The gondola and most of the park were therefore closed. 2 lifts were running and only about 6-8 trails were available to use. The conditions of the mountain were not updated to reflect this and the fliers at the ticket kiosks were not updated to reflect this either :( We drove 1.5 hours each way to get there. It would have been nice to have known this before we arrived. Tickets were purchased in advance online. Touch less kiosks dispensed your pass and all lift entrances were gated. Staff were all wearing masks and enforced guests to do the same. The lodges we saw were older but had everything you needed. Vented tents were available in the parking lot to provide extra space for getting ready or eating. I wouldn't say this would prevent me from coming back again. I have heard great things about this mountain. However I hope the staff does a better job communicating what is going on to the public.

Awesome slopes when there's good weather. Fun for experts who want some steep stuff, but beginners can learn as well

Had an absolutely amazing day at Gore Mountain! Recently started learning how to ski this year and this resort has everything from beginners to the most advance skier. Beautiful panoramas from many places in the mountains. My favorite views are all the way up top Gore Mountain on the way down through the cloud trail. If you're into skiing or snowboarding, don't miss Gore! You'll have an amazing day and plenty of trails to practice and enjoy the ride. We'll definitely be back next season. Have fun!

Went skiing for the first time and the places was great. Everyone around and staff made the experience safe for me. Went down one of the larger hills completely inexperienced and this family guided me down (mainly the two 10 and 12 year old daughter). They were amazing for their age. The one knock I will have on it is there was a beginner course training for a discounted price which I didn't take initially but I realized I needed it. So I went back inside to get the beginner training and they gave us a hard time about the prices of the training. Nonetheless I ended up taking it and it was the best part. The trainer (an older man) was so patient with us. Literally gave us a 90-100 min session where I saw immediate improvement. As city slicker I never thought I would go skiing in my life but I had an amazing time and I owe it all to Gore for giving me a memorable experience.

Let me start by saying I have a huge fear of heights. I've told myself numerous times eventually I need to face my fears . Well I did today . I came to gore mountain to experience their mountain skyride that goes to the peak of the mountain. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE I shall remember for a life time . It's $24 dollars for an adult ticket and my husband and I went on together. You will need to pick up a pass card at the front of the establishment with the barcode that is emailed to you, if you purchase tickets in advance. I made sure to purchase advance tickets online being this is the last weekend for the skyline, for the season so I knew it would be packed . The views were something I've never experienced before (even though I was terrified going up) it was well worth it. When you get to the peak you have an option to come out and het great pics of the view and hike etc. Of course my husband and I decided to come out and tour a little . It's very cold at the top I advise to dress very warm during fall season up there , but again the views were phenomenal. They also have local sellers that sold home made fudge and honey to local pretzel sellers as well . Majority of local venders only take cash. This was a trip of a lifetime that my husband and I will never forget. Also we drove 5 hours to get there

MORE GORE! (That's their new heraldric slogan. You would think the zombie apocalypse was upon us.) It's been a few years since we've been back to Gore, but we picked the worst possible weekend for it over Presidents Day. Holiday prices, crowds and a brutal cold snap courtesy of an Alberta Clipper that blasted the NE with sub-zero temperatures. Saturday morning comes and it is +5 degrees, which is not totally out of the question for skiing, but you have to be prepared with heat packs for your boots and gloves. Even a little breeze drops the wind chill real feel below zero, so we are very appreciative of the enclosed gondola. A lot of trails are open, but riding on some of the open chairs is pretty brutal when the wind kicks up. The North side trails are deserted and it's just me, my buddy and the lift operator. We squeeze in a few cruiser runs on Sleeping Bear and Tahawus to warm ourselves up, just so that we can freeze our fingers and toes going back up the slow fixed quad chair. Meeting up with the rest of our group, we take a few runs on the front face on Showcase, Arena and Twister. After a late lunch at the lodge and a couple of runs to finish up, we call it a day. Woke up on Sunday morning to a reported -20 degrees. We already bought 2 day lift tickets, so not wanting to waste it, we headed out (though a little later than usual). When we reach the lodge, it's warmed up to a sunny -9. Only 2 lifts are running (gondola and 2 person Sunway) and even then the gondola was breaking down in protest every few hours. During lunch, somebody said they saw a guy going towards the gondola with a sledgehammer and a few minutes later you hear a huge BONG reverberating from the wheelhouse. Always remember that "the bigger the problem, the bigger the hammer". Despite the problems with the cold, we still had a good ski day. BTW, I ended up getting frostbite below my chin because my breath soaked my ski mask and it froze to my throat. Peeling it off was not fun. Ouch. Four stars for frostbite, Yikers!

If it was not for the old fashioned rental process reminiscent of Zermatt circa 1990's, I would probably vote Gore mountain to be one of the best ski resort in the North East region. The rental equipment area is located at Northwoods lodge, the personal informations such as ski level, height, weight, shoe size has to be filled manually. Your ski boots will be handed to you but do not put them on until after your skis are customized for you (they still use boots to manually customize skis). The whole rental process took us approximately 30 minutes. I guess we were spoiled by the computerized and more organized rental process at the ski resorts in the Catskills. The resort consists of five different mountains that are all accessible and interconnected via different lifts lines. The gondola will take you to the second highest mountain in comfort and in no time at all. There are available trails for every ski levels, but this place is probably ideal for intermediate and advance levels. The queues for lifts are almost non existent. This place is indeed North Creek's secret gem. The base lodge offers a cafeteria that serves the usual burgers, chicken fingers, pizza etc. nothing gourmet but good enough to fill your hungry stomach. The pub and restaurant on the other hand offer an après ski and a more Sophisticated dining experience. All in all, was it worth the four hour travel? Given the number of trails, enormous size of the resort and the quality of snow, hell yeah! I will be looking forward coming back here next ski season.

We had a blast today trying out this mountain for the first time. Our first impressions was that it's a BIG mountain-- to ski from top to bottom is a 3 mile run! Lots of trails for both inexperienced and beginner skiers. The fiancé was disappointed that more of the glades trails were closed, but still early in the season so hopefully we will have a chance to go back and try them out. The trails were very well groomed and extensive-- despite only 47% of the terrain being open according to the website, we did not feel limited by our options. Great day and great resort!

My boyfriend and I knew we wanted to go skiing at Gore but were not sure where to stay and boy and I glad that we chose Gore Mountain Lodge. We pulled up and went to the office to check in, and unfortunately there was a miscommunication and our room was never actually booked- but no fear! They accommodated us anyway, just told us it would be a little bit before the room was clean and ready, and that was fine by us. We walked right over to Beck's for a quick bite and drink and that was AMAZING!- but go over there for that review. The rooms are clean, there's nice little notes written for you with tips and info, there's plenty of brochures for local dining and travel sites, a trail map for gore mountain, a tv, WiFi, comfortable beds, towels, PLENTY of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, (super nice touch) and complimentary Swedish fish and sparkling water! There's even a Keurig, K-Cups, and mugs for your use to get you up and at 'em so you can be the first one at the mountain in the morning. Speaking of- it's not even a mile away from the gore mountain entrance- another huge plus. We knew within seconds that we wanted to write a good review for this place- and we don't write reviews often. There's communal yurts to hang out in- which we unfortunately never checked out but loved that we had the option. And they even have equipment and tools for ski racing! You can tell that they take care of the place and also take skiing seriously! It felt like staying at a relative's house but without any of the annoying check ins. With all of that said, I would highly recommend if you're considering a place near Gore Mountain. Kudos to the owners! We'll be back.

Whether you're skiing at nearby Gore Mountain or whitewater rafting on the Hudson, returning to a nice warm condo to relax with a cold beer is a huge comfort. When we have a big group for skiing, I always try to get the 4 bedroom units, but there are only 2 of them, so the earlier you book the better. They're not true 4BR because they are really 2 units with 3+1BR with an adjoining door and 2 entrances. The unit rental rate is pricey, but that's to be expected on a holiday weekend during ski season. On the plus side, you have 2 living rooms, 2 kitchens and 3 1/2 baths which makes a big difference when you're cooking dinner or trying to get everybody ready to go out to the slopes in the morning. Both units also have gas outdoor grills if you want to throw on some steaks after a long day on the slopes. Just be sure to put on all your ski gear if you're manning the grill and it's 0 degrees when the sun goes down. The office and clubhouse building is only a short walk away. Some of the individual units have WiFi if the owner is nice enough to have it installed, but it's available in the clubhouse if you really need it. There is also a swimming pool, foosball, billiards and table tennis. The office even sells discount lift tickets for Gore if you want to save a couple of bucks off the mountain price.

You could drive, but there is also a shuttle. The price for the two bedroom town house was not cheap, but the comfort factor made up for it. It has a full kitchen, with lots of dishes, cooking utensils , pots and pans. Even a blender! Anything you can dream of, with more than enough serveware which was nice. There's also a dishwasher which made life easier. Living, dining and kitchen were open concept, large dining table and a flat screen tv. Upstairs were two bedrooms , the master with ensuite and shared hot tub. I was surprised how clean the place was, everything was spotless and seemed like it was left just for us. No one bugged us for the three days we were there which was nice, but you could have requested a change of sheets, more towels if you wanted to. The office down the way, had a pool and maps and thing but we didn't use any of them. The only 2 complaints was that they couldn't give us the Wifi password and seemed to be only available in the office ( a huge downer for us roaming canadians) and for some reason we couldn't regulate the temperature consistently (either too hot or too cold) Otherwise the stay was really enjoyable, and couldn't have asked for more in accommodations. For those that dont feel like skiing, North Creek town about 5 mins away has a great bakery and antique shop!

What a beautiful mountain!…read more As an adult first learning to ski, I found Whiteface fairly intimidating. Just the drive in with its sweeping views of the east slope landscape is awe-inspiring. As an Olympic mountain with the greatest continuous vertical drop in the eastern US, this ski mountain has so much to offer for all levels of outdoor enthusiast. The Bear's Den area is the perfect launching point for little ones, new skiers, or those who prefer to warm up with an easy slope. If you're ready to jump in, there's a series of greens, blues, blacks, and more that can be accessed from their main lodge area by a gondola and several chairlifts to the mid and upper mountain. Even on busy days there's so many miles of trails that it keeps the crowds spread out to a degree. Can the lift lines get excessive? Sure. But if you're not picky, you can ski around (or stick to the upper mountain) and you can get a decent amount of runs in. Great mountain to level up on. In the past year I've graduated to some of their blues and finally made it to their highest lift (at 4,386 feet!) to soak in the amazing views of the surrounding Adirondacks. I've hiked many a mountain in summer this height but it was rewarding to catch a ride to the top and make my way down on skis. I appreciated the trail matrix available this year to gain a better understanding of which blues are easier and which start to verge on black so that I don't find myself in an overly uncomfortable situation before I'm mentally ready to do so. While all skiing is generally expensive, I feel you get a pretty good bang for your buck. Great facilities with a mid-mountain lodge. Fun events to watch if you catch them on a day you're already on-mountain. I caught both giant slalom and slalom this last trip. I'm clearly no expert but, I'm a fan of this location and am grateful to have the opportunity to ski here a couple times a year when in the area. I will have to hike it sometime to appreciate all that the non-winter season has to offer.

I have been trying to ski Whiteface for a while, usually one thing or another prevented me…read more Luckily this time I got a full day of skiing. Getting to Whiteface from my hotel in Lake George was easy; parking ended up being easy since I choose to park at the Bear Den Lodge area so I ended up almost to the lodge. I picked up my lift ticket RFID ticket from the electronic dispenser with no problem; by buying online in advance I got a discount price. The lodge was nice and even had racks available for free bag storage. I do appreciate that getting to the lodge and from the lodge to the lifts without having to climb steps. Overall the logistics were great for getting onto the mountain at the Bear Den area. The biggest downside I encountered was that the lifts were delayed almost 1 hour so that the groomers could redo the mountain since there was an ice storm overnight. I do have to call out the lift operator who kept us informed and entertained during the wait; it was much appreciated. Once the lifts were running there is one lift that gets you from the Bear Den area which is the beginner's area to mid-mountain and access to the rest of the mountain. Once I got skiing, Whiteface lived up to its Iceface nickname both early in the morning and then later in the afternoon. I was glad that they had regroomed the slopes so the skiing was good for most of the day. 3mmit and Lookout Mountain. I got to ski all 3 areas and really enjoyed myself. Little Whiteface was a bit limited since they had closed a whole face and one lift for race training. The Summit of course puts you up high and provides the choice to ski quite a few different trails and you can go to mid-mountain or the full 3000+ vertical to the base area. Lookout Mountain was opened later than the other areas and then was closed again for a while for regrooming; I was a bit disappointed by this since I found the Willmington Trail to be some of the best skiing on the mountain. A great long intermediate trail with fun twists and turns and variations in the slope, I would have taken a couple more runs on this trail if I had the chance. I really enjoyed skiing Whiteface, it is the largest vertical for any Eastern ski area. The lift system works well and navigating the mountain is not too hard. Having hosted the winter Olympics there is plenty of challenge and variety. Prices are reasonable, especially if you buy your tickets online and in advance. Because Lake Placid is a bit remote the lift lines were short. As long as the weather cooperates Whiteface is a great place to ski or ride.

Instead, we experienced chaos, hostility, and treatment that felt discriminatory. There was no staff at check-in -- after 10+ calls, we were told the key was left outside. The "continental breakfast" was stale cereal and hard-boiled eggs. The room had bugs, and the flooring was poorly installed and taped together with electrical tape. On the second day of our stay, the owner entered one of our rooms unannounced using her own key and attempted to change the lock to lock out one of our family members, claiming the room wasn't paid for. We had booked and paid in full for four rooms over six months earlier. Only after showing her the receipt did she realize it was her mistake. No apology was offered. I am a disabled veteran with medical dietary restrictions and travel with a rice cooker. When a fire alarm went off due to the microwave provided in the room, the owners barged in and demanded money. Later, they returned accusing us of clogging a public bathroom toilet with rice -- an accusation that felt based solely on the fact that we are Asian. The photo they showed was actually pasta. Again, no apology. As a veteran who served this country, I never expected to be stereotyped, falsely accused, and repeatedly entered without notice during a family vacation. We left feeling humiliated, targeted, and completely disrespected.
