Deli staff has a lot of turnover and the service has been mediocre over the past eight years. However, a young woman named Max waited on me yesterday and she was phenomenal. Produce is always fresh and I love the discounted bananas. Beer and spirits are rock solid in terms of offerings and the gentleman who runs the wine/ spirit area is a gem.

Why I'm officially stopping buying Miller Amish Chicken I wanted to share a quick heads-up for…read moreanyone else who has noticed the quality of their chicken changing lately. If your chicken has been tasting weirdly stringy, chewy, or rubbery, you aren't crazy! After looking into it, I found out that Miller Poultry uses fast-growth chicken hybrids (like the Jumbo Cornish Cross). Because these birds are bred to grow their breast meat unnaturally fast, it causes genetic muscle defects known as "spaghetti meat" and "woody breast." The muscle fibers literally break down and turn into tough, fibrous connective tissue. Even though they are raised on local Amish farms without antibiotics, the fast-growth genetics ruin the quality and texture of the meat. I can't keep spending money on chicken that is completely unpalatable. From now on, I'm switching to brands that explicitly use slow-growth heritage breeds or pasture-raised chickens. Has anyone else noticed this texture issue with their chicken recently?

When we went in, we were blown away by the made to order food. The pizza and grinders were out of this world. I sure hope this place isn't closed because they have the best grinders I've ever had. We strolled over to the jerky counter where a heavy set gentleman inquired if we had any questions and gave us a smirk "You want a taste"? I tried the cherry chicken jerky (which I bought) and my husband tried the teriyaki but went with the Cajun (yummm). We grabbed some candy and beers and headed up to the counter. The older gentleman was smiley and laid back. We grabbed a bottle of old crow and the gentleman bidded us adeiu... what a wonderful end to a lovely evening. Thanks Paulas.

I have been going to MeijerS for my entire life since I grew up with Michigan but had never been to…read morethis location as I don't believe it was built the last time I was in the Holland area. Actually, almost everything in the area was new since I was in Holland as a child and it was basically just the outlet mall with a hotel close by. I was very pleasantly pleased to see that they had all the ideas I was in search for while home visiting and that I wouldn't have to go to multiple locations. In FL it is Oscar Myer country and I dislike their bologna as I am a Eckrich girl all the way. You can also not get Stehouwer's Sizzlers in FL as it is a Michigan based company and I previously have looked into having them directly shipped down but with them needing dry ice, it's a fortune. Last but not least is Wyler's Mrs. Grass soup that suddenly all the Publix locations in the Tampa Bay area that I visit have stopped carrying. So annoying but I stock up on everything while I am at home, freezing the bologna and sizzlers and then bringing them back in a cooler on my flight as it's a quick direct flight back. Call me crazy but whatever... if in season, you can add Michigan Sweet Corn into my stash. When I first started doing this all the TSA people went through my bag and would just give me a funny look until I explained and then laugh at me. Oh well, this location was clean and very well stocked, which I greatly appreciated.

It is a hidden gem of groceries! Especially if you're looking for food for a party. They sell perfectly normal sized almost everything as well as a vast array of gourmet cheeses, meats, olives and a full bakery. They also have a full-service meat and deli counter for all of your picnic and barbecuing needs. Most items are priced similar to what you would get at other higher and grocery stores but in some instances things are much cheaper. Take their oversized gourmet cupcakes which are not only beautiful but an absolute steal at $1.89 each. Everyone working there is always friendly and happy to help you find what you're looking for. My last trip I picked up some of my favorite little drop peppers and thought how easy it would be to put together an amazing charcuterie board just shopping at the store alone. So the next time you need to pick up some groceries and don't feel like going shoulder to shoulder at more traditional grocery stores give Gordons a try you'll be glad you did.
