The staff was fine. There were some pretty, sparkly formal dresses. The checkout lines are chaotic.

The young black gal cashier would call "Code One" over the intercom, and we'd have to wait for a "manager" to come to the register to perform the return. And each time the tall white dude or tall white gal would continue doing what they're doing, and finally make their way to the register. Sometimes the cashier would need to call (the Code One) a second time, and you could clearly see the "manager" just doing something else, and finally come to the register. This whole time the checkout line comes to a standstill, and everyone just waits. The woman ahead of me had a return, and when the female manager was done with her return, I told the manager, hey, I also have a return. You know thinking she would maybe stay at the register. Nope; she walked off. And 30 seconds later when I got to the register, the sweet young black gal cashier (who amazed me with her patience, and is the only reason I gave any stars at all) had to call "Code One"; and three minutes and 20 seconds later the same female manager returned to do my return. Okay, Goodwill, back to the $4.99 price on men's short sleeve shirts AND t-shirts, that until recently t-shirts were $2.99. You do realize we can go to Walmart and get brand new t-shirts for $5-$6. And you get your t-shirts for free!! For this reason I am out!

It doesn't get simpler than that. Afterwards, I popped inside to see what was what. Clothing is well-organized in most sections and they have a lot of it. I spotted a suitcoat that was tempting but then, when am I going to need to be dressed to go into the office again? Prices are clearly marked and they move people through the line quickly. I was…read moreactually planning to head to Office Depot already for Thank You cards when I conveniently found them here - an instant win for thrift and zero-wasters! Generally speaking it's hard to get a low rating from me if you're any kind of store that deals in selling used items. That includes all of the many other chains and places that I won't bother to enumerate. Salvation Army is a LITTLE over the top for me because they're strongly religious. But I don't care much. They're making jobs and moving the economy, the way I see it. Plus they're turning what would otherwise be trash into treasure for some folks. This location is no exception and follows the SA standards of every other one I've been to. A good half of the store sells furniture arranged neatly in full room sets. Living room, bedroom, dining room, etc. They even sell several used TVs and appliances as long as they can keep a supply of them on hand. Lots of housewares all neatly organized by color in the usual SA way. It's an unusual way to do it and makes finding things a bit harder but all the more rewarding. Most of the rest of the store is dedicated to clothes. Men's, women's and children's. Shoes, hats, bags, sports equipment and even bikes sometimes. Prices are typically not too bad for used things, especially if you find something that's practically still new. I might have to check back in here from time to time!

This is my favorite Salvation Army Store in Charlotte. It is clean, well-lit, nicely organized and…read morewell-managed. All the employees are professional and friendly. The men even wear ties. It is a real step up from the Goodwill stores but not nearly as big as it's sister store on Independence Boulevard. Both play relaxing, inspirational music. I like the fact that Wednesdays are half off all clothing, every week they have differing tag color specials, and the fact that they only charge $0.49 for DVDs and CDs. All the clothes are in good to excellent condition, with no stains or holes. It appears that they go to great lengths to ensure that is the case. More than anything though, I love the fact that they give so much back to the community. It make spending money here that much easier!
