On my lunch break today I went to God's Pantry's program "Food for Thought" that is done on the…read moresecond Thursday of each month. They give you a free box lunch, a presentation of their programs, and a brief tour of the warehouse. I had been to God's Pantry before to volunteer, but this presentation really opened my eyes to everything that they are able to accomplish and how they work to supply faith based and other partner agencies in 50 counties. They feed 200,000 people a year. For every $1 you donate, they are able to distribute 8 meals. With only 50 full time employees, I am very impressed with how efficient this organization is. It was also very interesting to find out where all of the food comes from, for example our local Kroger and Walmart donates bread, meat, and other items that can be frozen on their sell by date. God's Pantry is also committed to giving out healthy foods-their goal is 1/3 fresh produce. Played bingo with my niece at People Helping People Inc. Boy was I in for a first time treat. This…read morespot had so much going on it reminded me a little of a circus lol;) We entered and went to the counter to purchase our play boards. I purchased one for $6 which included nine game boards per sheet. We played several games, not sure how many. Bingo started at 6:30 PM and finished about 9:10 PM with a 15 minute intermission. Each bingo game sheet was a different color. There were several regular bingo games and others games were specific like a cluster of six or the all of the top, middle and bottom rows. It moved quickly so I had to pay close attention. I found staying focused on bingo difficult at times due to workers walking around the room trying to sell other games. There were at least five possibly seven additional games being played at the same time as bingo. You must stop by Granny's Kitchen (consession stand). The food was cheap but very tasty! I had a BBQ sandwich for $2.50, can of soda with a cup of ice $1.25, small bag of chips $1. The sandwich was really good. Not a ton of meat, but for the price it was just right. Folks were ordering a lot of beans and cornbread and slaw dogs. My niece and I won a little cash but unfortunately not the big $1,000 game. But we had fun for sure!
