The place was hopping. The store is very well organized but like other people have stated some the aisles aren't wide enough for people to pass by but we managed. This day's colored tag was red and I only found 1 or 2 items that had them. Perhaps the best item I found were some paintings of Puerto Rico that were done on wood planks in the last 4 years and some sunglasses. I…read morestarted out first at the women's shelter and while I admit it was really nice to have a hot meal, shower, and a bed to sleep in there are many problems that they don't tell you about. First, there's no screening process for those who stay at the shelter except for hepatitis (which you have to have a card within 4 days clearing you). while good there's many other issues they don't screen for. They don't check to see if you're "clean" meaning if you have open sores or even body lice [which 5 people had while I was there] which could put others at risk for health issues. They also didn't check for drugs being brought in or even small knives -a lady in the bed next to me had a comb that concealed a knife - correct me if I am wrong but this is a danger to anyone including staff. Second, the showers.. yes, you can take a shower, however, your time for a shower is 7 minutes. This time IS NOT from the time you are in the shower...this 7 minutes starts as soon as you walk through the bathroom door. So, you are lucky if you get wet. Third, every piece of clothes that one takes off for the shower is thrown into a large trash can, which they gather to wash the clothes. ALL CLOTHES ARE WASHED TOGETHER IN ONE BIG WASHER. Now this problem goes back to previous statements all the clothes put together opens everyone up to the body issues (sores etc.) as well as possibly spreading STD from one person to another. off to the side of the shelter you see a big building which we were all told was the housing for those in the life builders program..along with some offices a clinic and bathroom. A few people went from the shelter to the program but I guess it didn't click as they ended up 3 days later back at the shelter. I went from the shelter into the program and I admit I had some expectations thinking I'd have a nice room to myself.. wrong. You ended up having close to 30 ladies confined to one floor! Everyone had to share rooms with others, showers and such. You basically could be using the bathroom and someone walk in wearing a bathrobe take it off and get into the shower in front of you...no privacy at all. Many described the situation as being a vamped up jail setting. Everyday you had classes you had to take which I have to say were a little odd and didn't really address the problem at hand which was the addiction everyone there was fighting. The "counseling" that everyone was required to have as well is NOT done by licensed professionals but by the instructors or even office workers. I can honestly say I didn't do shit when it came to counseling because I could tell from day one it was a crock of crap and everything you shared at any time was not private. Everyone knew your business. Oh and this is the most important information to know. They emphasize from early on that the life builders program is free and helps you save money to assist you when you leave. This is partly true HOWEVER as soon as you gain any type of income you have to repay them for everything they did for you. A better explanation of this... when I came into the program I had nothing to my name. I didn't know that I had gotten disability and found out while I was there. They sent me a check for 4,000,000 and I was really happy and wanted to put it into the bank right away...I WASN'T ALLOWED TO !! As soon as they became aware of this check I had to repay every cent of the program and pay rent for the room I was sharing with another person. Out of the 4,00,000 disability check after everything was taken out I saw only 25.00 dollars! Correct me if I am wrong but they had zero right to take money specifically for a disability I had. This is just downright wrong given that my disability affected movement and my ability to function daily. While I was there with all these ladies several were stealing from others and using drugs right in the open. Yeah we were tested but they found ways around it. The program is just a downright lie or scamming people so they can make money. It's not what it's supposed to be.

I would like to thank Ren and the tall young boy with wavy brown hair and light eyes who helped me out to my car with the stuff, considering I was recovering from Surgery and I was already spent in this Florida heat. Those were the only two individuals who even treated me like I was a human coming into that store versus some piece of trash just trying to get money for crack or something. What really annoys me the most about this whole experience is of course they only took my designer boutique items, but I understand why but they didn't even take the complete set. They only took certain parts of each set, leaving me with a bathing hat, but they took the bathing suit or they took the dress and left me with the bloomers. If you expect me to keep all the sets together, and I have to go through all this work to make sure everything's together then you better take the entire damn set and not just half of it. They also didn't keep the sets together on the items that they did not accept. I had to go through everything again and pair everything up. Do not expect me to have the professional courtesy to do these things and then you can't even be kind enough to do it back to me.
