Shame on you Goodwill Industries! I usually don't post negative things but feel like I must let you know what happened today. I went to Goodwill in Lenoir City, TN to make a very large donation of clothes and household goods. As I was getting the clothes ready to donate, I made sure the suits and sport coats were on suit hangers and the shirts were on hangers as well. All of these clothes were in excellent condition and many had the dry cleaner tags on them from the last time I had them cleaned.
I arrived at the donation center with 40 pairs of pants, 35 shirts, and several suits and sport coats. The women in the donation center chastised me for not bringing the clothes in garbage bags! Why would anyone take a suit or cleaned pressed shirt and stuff it in a garbage bag?
They then proceeded to tell me that they are instructed to toss all donations in the dumpster that don't come in garbage bags or boxes! These clothes were expensive!! It was at this point I told them I would load the donations back in my car if that was the case. They assured me that they would "allow" it this time but in the future to please do as instructed.
I was furious. All these years that I have donated to Goodwill Industries, I thought I was doing a good thing, to only find out that my donations were probably tossed due to being organized, clean and on hangers. I will never donate to them again. read more
