Let me be clear, this is not against the Amvets building in Knoxville itself. But I called their customer service to schedule a pickup. My poor rating is because of that gentlemen on the phone. I told him that my stuff was not on floor level, that it was on the second floor and he said they were unable to come get it then. Then I said what if I could have it outside on the day I want to schedule it so all you have to do is get it from outside. He said maybe but asked me for my ZIP Code. I gave it to him and he said we do not pick up on that day and then hung up on me. Did not even let me try to figure out something else, did not let me ask about another day. Absolutely ridiculous price increase on all items. They are charging brand new prices for used, donated items. Consider donating elsewhere. I actually said something to the manager and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. A "THRIFT" store is supposed to be affordable. The shoes are literally priced like brand new 9.99 and higher. Furniture is priced as if you stepped into an antique store. The manager asked which location I normally shop at and guess what? Viola! The prices just increased there too! Amvets is pricing itself out of business. Several of my family members are veterans so I enjoy supporting this cause. It's easy for me to shop elsewhere. I will no longer shop at the Knoxville location again. The location where I live I was shopping at 4 days a week. I purchased nothing there last week. I am a top customer. I am collecting items to donate and I am seriously reconsidering where to donate these items. When I left Chicago I donated over $7,000 worth of merchandise to my local thrift stores and charities. The majority of people donating are trying to help their fellow Americans that need it. When companies get greedy and start taking advantage of us I cannot sit silent. I also purchase a lot and donate extra money to Amvets. I hate it when a company gets greedy and stops thinking about the little guys/ladies keeping them in business. Our donations help our veterans but it also helps the whole community that needs it especially in 2024. Great store with much cheaper prices than Karms. As a veteran I support this store. The profits go to Veterans programs.

I am a regular. I come in nearly everyday. There was a new employee there that asked me to take off my back pack and entrust it to her while I shopped. It didn't stop there she asked me if I was ready to check out while I obviously hadn't finished looking around. I used to love this store now I just don't know. read more

I love shopping at AMVETS. The selection is good and I always find something really nice whatever I'm looking for. Last time I found an awesome fall jacket. The store is neat, I'd say one of the cleanest I've been to. The window arrangements are beautiful! And for the items I find there it's not expensive at all! Amvets is a cool little thriftstore located in the plaza right off of seven oaks in Knoxville. While it's store front is a little unassuming the payoff inside is HUGE. Amvets has a lot of clothing items to choose from that is in a quality that sets it a large distance apart from thrift stores that you might normally go to like goodwill. Definitely had a good experience. Would highly recommend. 5/5. While in Knoxville, having a bit of a family reunion I get my grandma to bring me to Pluto Sports which is a cool disc golf store I like in the same plaza. Naturally, grandma is a sucker for anything thrift store because she loves the "getting a bargain" high. While I generally like thrift stores too, this location was unassuming at best and would've easily allowed me to pass it by if grandma didn't already have a foothold on it. My initial impression when I walked in was that this thrift store is set apart from others. I generally judge the thrift stores I frequent by the men's shirt section. If there are a lot of different, unique colors and styles with a matching vibe for sizes, you can bet there isn't a lot of quality control. This is the case with most goodwills. However, aside from being clean and tidy (my initial hook), and that there seemed to be a higher scale clientele here than I'm used to in a goodwill (my second hook), I give looking around the male shirt aisle a shot. Let me tell you, the organization of this thrift store is on fleek. Extra points for having selection too. I ventured over the pants section and found all kinds of jeans and business slacks that actually fit my size (I usually have a very popular male waist size and find nothing notable). I left with a few articles that I was highly satisfied with, not only because the price was thrift store pricing, but also because the quality was almost department store new. 5/5. This store got 5/5 because: 1: the store is clean and tidy. 2: staff is nice and genuinely interested in your purchases. 3: the inventory is catered to quality. I called to inquire about a pickup vs drop off for a medium upholstered chair. I received location info and hours. I made sure the location close to me actually took drop offs. I WASN'T told was there may be no help available to assist with unloading my chair. I was pointed to shopping carts I could use. I was asked if I could get a neighbor to help me. I was asked who I spoke with. I wasn't offered possible options when they would have additional staff to assist. My gripe is not with the young man at the counter. It is with management and the lack of training and customer service orientation. I am worn out by companies and organizations that offer only partial or downright incorrect information when making inquiries. The chair will be going to a different organization. read more

Local thrifting at its best! Location is great, big and open. All the goods are well organized and arranged in an attractive manner. You can tell that they cycle things through, and don't just let items pile up forever. Front featured a really nice sweater display of 5 different racks, each rack had sweaters in a monochromatic theme ie one rack had shades of gray, another had shades of blue. Electronics and bric a brac, normally a very messy area in other stores was beautifully organized. Managed to find one banana republic top for $3 and a nice ball of lion brand cotton yarn for $0.99. Women's clothing was very well organized by categories (long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, skirt, pants) and within those categories by size! Made it very easy to skim for clothes in my size, something that can be a big challenge in less organized thrift stores. Dressing room was clean and the lock worked. After an employee told my family that they will take furniture dirty from a garage and even wet from rain, that they would take our furniture with no problem. THE TRUCK DRIVERS REFUSED TO TAKE THE FURNITURE BECAUSE IT WAS DIRTY. They literally told my disabled father on a fixed income that they only have 2 trucks between 2 stores and that the other truck is broke down, and they do not have time to take our furniture because of it being in the garage and being dirty. It is good expensive furniture and just needed to be cleaned off. Now my dad is out $750+ because of their refusal to take it. We had other boxes of things that were absolutely "clean to take" and they REFUSED TO TAKE THEM AS WELL BECAUSE IT WAS "A WASTE OF THEIR TIME." I work in Healthcare and if I acted like that towards a patient and their family I would be on the corner peddling apples. I AM DISGUSTED WITH THEIR SERVICE!! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN. I use to think they took pride in doing things like this, but now see they are only in it for the money. Their employees also obviously do not know the truth or their policies to be telling people as they are. My family could not afford to have someone come and get it and spend money like that on a fixed income. SHAME ON YOU ALL AND YOUR LAZY WORKERS, who also in the process screwed over an elderly disabled man on a fixed income like that, because you all refused to even clean the furniture off like you all have to do with donations anyways, unless you all are selling the public unwashed or unsanitary items!!! read more
