Hi Everyone, I've…read morebeen donating food and clothing items to Second Mile Missions for quite a while. They are such a worthwhile non-profit organization. Second mile has an "Opportunity Shop" which resales those clothing donations, producing funds to help the surrounding communities, which are called "neighbors" who are in need. There is also a grocery department where those "neighbors" can shop to help out on their weekly grocery expenses. I have volunteered there on several occasions as time permitted, especially during the recent flooding in the Richmond/ Rosenberg areas that displaced 1,000 families. The need was great and Second Mile, along with other area churches and associations, stepped up to the task of helping out the flood victims in the interim period until they could be made whole again. Second Mile is always in need of volunteers. So if you have some time on your hands and have been looking to volunteer somewhere for a good cause, I cannot think of a better place to make the effort. Give them a call today. Call Shane Hill (Dir. of Operations and Social Enterprise) (281) 261-9199 1135 Hwy. 90A Missouri City, TX 77489 shill@secondmile.org

I have always enjoyed taking donations to this organization. I see it like "neighbors helping neighbors." Everyone is always looking forward to this Annual Food Drive, hopefully, we are able to do the drive this year. The East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Inc. is one of my favorite places to donate and even shop. Everyone that works or volunteers here is super nice and extremely helpful. Every time I have been here, everyone is always smiling, and they are very happy to be able to help the community. The East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry helps families in the surrounding areas fight hunger, help with finances (especially in these tough times), and their basic human needs. Another thing that this organization does is the 5k run, which all the proceeds go to them to help families. You can have fun, network, and -bonus-Help families. They also let high school students volunteer either at the pantry or the warehouse. I believe this helps teenagers to be more caring and see the reality of what is happening around them, not everyone is so lucky to have food on their table every night. If that's not all, they were able to assist families of Fort Bend County during the pandemic. They helped with food, finances to pay for their monthly bills, and other things. They were able to be open all throughout the pandemic just to help families with was going on right now. If you feel happy to donate some perishables, just treat yourself and purchase something neat at their re-sale shop, which is actually steps away from the pantry. You can find all kinds of things in this shop -from antiques to newer things. You can also purchase unique gifts that you will not find anywhere else. You're not shopping just to shop; this money will also be helping families around the area. This is one of the places that we should be shopping at, instead of bigger stores. These types of places help families in need, schools, kids, etc. Sometimes we are too focused of what new things are going to be on store shelves to be the "cool" kid, but we forget that there are so many families that have lost everything. If you want to donate money, food, clothes, just anything, this is the place to donate. You can even volunteer to help at the pantry or warehouse. I always believe that when you help others, others will help you. From donating to shopping, you will be donating to help others in the community at this place. Another thing that will make you happy, you will see that someone is always smiling when you are there, either donating or shopping at the resale shop. Just visit this place, I promise you will be super happy to donate.

They also include spay/neuter and their first 8 weeks of shots in the adoption fee, plus our cats were on BOGO special. We donate as much as possible to help other animals but I have only great things to say about HPA. One thing I will say is to make sure you have any and all paperwork you need when you're there in person. They don't really answer the phone or their email, but I have gotten responses on Facebook messenger.

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

I I'm sorry, but I paid more in medical bills for myself and my own pets than you paid for Maggie. My cat died from the extra stress. And I did not give Maggie to an unknown person. We met several times so she could meet Maggie, I spoke with her on the phone at length, I spoke to her vet, she has a history of owning dachshunds and she sends me updates. And Maggie loved her on sight. Maggie is where she belongs. She is very loved and well cared for. I'm recovering from the extra medical expenses and stress. I'm done.

I was initially asked to foster two mama dogs and their 13 puppies for just 2-3 weeks, but things quickly went downhill. Stacey, the Owner/Director, did not follow through on her promises. She provided only one bag of food and never reimbursed me for any additional expenses, including food, medications, deworming, or ringworm treatments etc. What was supposed to be a short-term commitment turned into 8+weeks of fostering with no clear plan for rehoming or transferring the dogs to another foster. When I expressed my frustration about the lack of communication and support, Stacey became defensive and told me to find another rescue to take the dogs. SPOT /Stacey Jones ABANDONED all the dogs that she placed in my care. In the end, I was left with 13 puppies, two adult mamas, and a $600 vet bill ( that was approved by Stacey) for exams, vaccines, heartworm tests, and fecals. This experience was incredibly stressful and disappointing.

For our first annual Mother's Day Honor Lunch, we decided to go to Brookwood. I am thrilled with our experience! They had an abbreviated menu that weekend. We both had the Mesibov salad to start. I was wonderful and from what i understand, Brookwood is known for this salad. For our meal, I had the eggplant, and my friend had the pork chop. We also had a choice of delicious desserts. I chose the cheesecake. The serve was wonderful, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was perfect with a piano player, and the dining area was clean. I noticed a faint smell of cafeteria type scent, but it dissipated in a few minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The "Community" is such a wonderful space for people in need. I recommend reservations. Make sure you plan for extra time to visit the store and the garden. Beautiful finds! 5/10/2025: The Gift & Garden Center... What a place! Brookwood was a wonderful experience with the lunch and then we got to shop in the store and the garden. I went back to the register 4 times, and mind you, I am not a shopper by nature. They have so many great items and I was surprised the prices were pretty decent. Clothing, shoes, bags, home decor, candles, gourmet snacks, Brookwood Community handmade items, a whole western hat and boot section, and so much more! They even have a local artist gallery with high end artwork and sculptures. One of a king beautiful piece! I like that the items were rare-ish finds. These are not items you will find at regular stores. They are more boutique type items. We also shopped in the beautiful garden. I purchased a lovely Bougainvillea for only $25.00. A regular store near me would have sold the same plant for at least $35.00. The ladies in the store are super helpful. I am glad they aren't close to my home because living nearby could be dangerous on my wallet. Even though prices are good, I wanted to buy everything in the store!

Haven't been since before COVID, but loved loved loved this community! Great day trip outing!read more
