Advent Calendar: I have to confess that I've had an Advent calendar every Christmas for most of my…read morelife and intend to keep getting one for every Christmas season to come. An Advent calendar is essentially a countdown to Christmas beginning on December 1st and lasting until December 24th. There are 24 numbered "doors" or "windows" to open. Behind each one is a piece of chocolate (usually Christmas themed). Popping the chocolate into my mouth each year instantly brings me back to the best Christmases of my childhood. Typically, I opt for a more Christmas themed image, but being the Star Wars fan that I am, I was gifted with a Grogu stylized one from The Mandalorian. This particular calendar is distributed in the U.S. by Galerie Candy, and I believe the chocolate is made by Jean-Talon Chocolate in Canada. My only minor complaint is it seems like a wasted opportunity to not make the chocolates into various shapes from the Star Wars universe (ships, characters, weapons), they are instead the same shapes found in other Jean-Talon Chocolate Advent calendars. Their carpet is made from 2 liter pop bottles. Their tiles are made from clay and ground glass. The curved wall is made with pop cans. The sun energy that was saved over the summer through the active solar system is what heats the house.

Today I went home with a vintage Fire King piece, someone's cute cat figurine collection they donated, and a handmade cutting board. Only complaint is the price was written directly on the cutting board in Sharpie instead of using tape or a sticker. All thrift stores: please stop doing that! This thrift store is always well organized with holiday sections, a large toy area, lots of picture frames, craft supplies, linens, and always some furniture to dig through. The clothing section is pretty small, and I have not found many nice brand items to make the prices worthwhile, but I did find a bin of handmade crocheted hats for cheap and picked one out. It is not the cleanest store, so plan to wash your finds well when you get home. Still, they do not sell broken junk like some thrift stores, and there is usually nice stuff set out. The staff members I have talked to have been kind, and the prices are fair. Not the absolute cheapest, but thrift store prices everywhere are going up, and this place follows that trend. Overall, this place will always be worth my monthly stop in and I love my treasures I've found here.
