I'm a huge fan of resale and thrift stores. You find gently used items for great prices. I stop by this location about once a week so check on clothing and any new houseware items that have come in. Hubby works in the construction industry so he goes through pants very quickly. I pick up pairs here anytime they have them for only $4 each. One amazing day I found him a pair of $100 jeans for... you guessed it $4!!! I'm always looking for good houseware items too - pictures, decorations, seasonal items. Recently found a brand new Pampered Chef deep dish baker (about $80 item), a 4 piece canister set, many new cookbooks, new family games and books all for low prices. I've also had a few baby showers this year. Planned ahead accordingly and was able to get multiple outfits for the gifts that were all new with tags still on. Baby items/clothes sell for only $1.50 each. That is a great deal. The staff is friendly and helpful and it's never too crowded.

I'm a big fan of thrifting and this particular Goodwill location usually has pretty good finds. Vacuum cleaners Cookware Blazers Belts Bed linens Shoes T-Shirts Hats Purses Toys TV's Coats Jeans You can find it all here, in decent condition for small change. The staff is very pleasant and helpful; if you need something plugged in for a test run or carried out to your vehicle they accomodate without hesitation. There are often sales on top of the already marked down merchandise which makes for a really great deal. ~Christy

Answered all questions when I called (and called back and back and back again!). They even called a couple of days before to confirm the reservation. Not only did they provide an affordable room, they treated one adult per room and children under 12 to the buffet breakfast and also gave us, free of charge, one meal (which we had as lunch) and snacks and drinks. To top it off, they allowed us to borrow a microwave and use their freezer! It truly was a saving grace and we wish they were in all states we visit for medical appointments as they made us feel cared for, like we had friends we could ask for help. Cannot thank them or recommend them enough.

The charity provides motorized wheel chairs and therapy to children so they can move towards more independence and happiness. (check website for more accurate description) The most rewarding thing I have done with this group was the bike build that I did not build a bike or even tighten a nut. All I did was help break down boxes for recycling. (check out the pic at the stacks) Volunteers built donated kid's bikes and gave the bikes away for free. A special company volunteered and built the more complex bikes for kids with more needs to become mobile. I felt great after doing this for a few hours. Plus I got a FREE T-shirt. I have also donated during the telethon and worked the phone lines. This was also rewarding. The telethon show is actually interesting because they put pro athletes from the Blues, Rams and Cardinals in wheel chairs and have them race in an obstacle course. Overall this is a great charity and a rewarding experience.

Big Brothers and Sisters of America is an AMAZING organization! Growing up, my dad was a Big…read moreBrother with BBBSA, and I had a friend from school who had a Big Sister. So I guess you could say I've grown up around the organization. For the past few years, I've been moving from one location to the next, but I always knew that when I had settled in one place that I'd like to volunteer. I've loved my experience so far. This month marks my 5th month of being matched with my little sister who is 8. The interview process and matching process are both very thorough and I like that they take your preferences (regarding age, interests, etc.) into consideration when selecting a Little for you. I waited for about three to four weeks before a Little was selected for me. They are very upfront about your Little's background and want to ensure that you have a level of comfort with what experiences your Little has had, what their home life entails, etc. I appreciate this so much about them. I was given information about my Little and was given a few days to think through my decision on whether I felt it was an adequate match. BBBSA does everything in their power to make these matches work, and I have been so impressed by their dedication and integrity regarding my relationship with my Little. Each pair is given a Relationship Specialist who checks in with both you and your Little separately once a month for the first year. Having these monthly phone calls from my Relationship Specialist has helped me to reflect on my relationship with my Little, along with her needs and ways for me to better reach her. They are always armed with lots of activitie ideas if you need them, and even though we've never been able to take advantage of them, they offer events for Bigs and Littles so you can meet other people in the BBBSA community. Free tickets to the Muny, Cards games, etc., are also offered to matches! They really do offer so many opportunities to Littles and it has been a joy to be a part of this organization. I've been incredibly pleased by my relationship with my Little. It has been nothing like I expected it to be, but has added up to being even more (if that makes sense!). Through my relationship with her I've been able to be a part of her life at school, at home, and through other personal challenges her family has encountered. I truly feel that I am making a difference in her life, and would implore anyone considering becoming a Big to do so! (Shameless Plug: There are over 1,000 kids in the St. Louis area waiting for a Big! Couples are also welcome to have a Little together. What a fun way to volunteer your time with your spouse!)
