Visited this Goodwill, my how things have changed. The last time I visited was in 2015. I was a dedicated visitor from 2010 -2015. I moved to Florida for the past 10vyrs.I came expecting the same warm friendly experience that I got when I visited during the past times, the music was always fun and the employees was always friendly and inviting the manager there was the most helpful and attentive to her customers and employees. I can remember 2 of the employees Preston and Russell can't remember the manager, but wherever she is maybe you should bring her back. These employees and the manager will never compare to those of days from 2010 to 2015. I will get a general response of thanking me and making an excuse for the employees and store. Oh not to mention how the prices have skyrocketed. Do better Goodwill. I go to slo goodwill expecting to see Candace and she's not there. read more

I shop here often and the employees are usually pretty friendly. Not today. Apparently Casey White is the police of the fitting room. He honestly treated me just short of a criminal, glaring at me and accusing me of having too many items in my dressing room. I asked him if he'd like to look in the fitting room whereby he informed me that I had to play by the rules....what? Between slo,paso and atascadero, this goodwill is my favorite. Always found jems here. I came often when I lived in atown. Prices are great and the store is clean. I went to this Goodwill on Monday to make a donation. The way I was treated by the woman who accepts donations made me decide that I will never donate here again. I pulled up to the donation area and a man and a woman was standing there, whose job obviously was to accept donations. I had not a big bag to donate, so I opened my car window and handed it to her. She in a very rude way told me "I will take it from you this time, but next time, get out of your car, this is not a drive-thru service" I left totally stunned by such a rude attitude when I was doing this business nothing but a favor to donate some very nice items. I found the perfect baking pan for steaming sourdough bread in a 500 degrees oven. The pan must withstand ice thrown in while hot, not many do. Unfortunately, I discovered upon checking out that the pan did not have a price tag. No problem, I thought. Just have the manager create a new tag or find a higher priced baking pan and use that one as reference. I was instructed by the manager that the store does not price anything and all items missing tags must go back to Goodwill's processing center. "Okay, I will come back tomorrow once it is price." Nope. That process takes at least three days. (Accordingly, customers remove tags as a means of getting the item cheaper. Unfortunately, when the store adopts a policy to curb one type of abhorrent behavior, they create another set of problems for honest customers.) I purchased my other items and left with a bad taste in my mouth. I did not remove the tag. I did nothing wrong, yet I felt like I was being penalized. I simply wanted to purchase an item that was on the shelf, and I was denied. Goodwill should finetune their policies and procedures so that (non-crook) customers always leave with a positive experience. To make matters worse, I tried calling Goodwill Central Coast's headquarters at 831-423-8611. I could not get anyone to answer the phone. I then called their office in San Luis Obispo at 805-544-0542. Again, no answer. I now have the distinct impression that Goodwill does not care about their customers, especially those like me who donate AND purchase. Sidenote: I also live in Phoenix, Arizona. No Goodwill store in Maricopa County has this type of policy and those stores are hugely successful. read more

We were on vacation from Los Angeles and doing some local thrifting. We wandered into this store and my daughter saw a few dresses on a rack. An employee asked her not to shop off that rack because it was unsafe and she needed to wait until the employee puts the clothes out on the normal racks. That's fine, it's their safety rule. But the frustrating part is the employee put all the clothes out -except those. We finally gave up and walked outside to leave after waiting 25 min. After we left the employee went to put those clothes out. We noticed and 'y daughter went back in. The employee saw my daughter and put the dresses back on the temporary rack. He honestly wouldn't let her buy them. If it wasn't so very frustrating it would of been funny. We were kind and patient but he had a power trip. read more

The staff here is great! However, the prices have gone up too much. Its been exensive for years but it's now cheaper to buy clothing at Target, TJ Maxx, Ross, or other stores that have return policies. I recently purchased a card game for $1.99 and found the Goodwill price tag was covering a $0.75 price tag from before it was donated. ​I can't justify buying most items here anymore. read more

The pricing is outrageous for donated free items, you can literally buy new for less. Don't tell me it pays for the employees when they are all on minimum wage, over worked and under valued and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Also please don't patronize me with your robot answer of 'thank-you for shopping and supporting Goodwill' At least pretend you're listening to your customer base. My donations will go to support a 'real' cause and not just to fatten some CEO's pocket. read more

It's sad to say that Goodwill has gone so far downhill that it is not worth the visit. I used to enjoy the challenge. I would spend a half a day shopping, trying on clothes and even finding little treasures like the 14k gold ring I still wear around my little finger or the mid century table that I got for half price, $25.00 and is now over $2000.00 on 1stDibbs. These finds couldn't happen today. First, there is no jewelery section, 2nd very limited furniture and 3rd, the clothes cost so much that I can do just as well shopping sales at Macy's. Goodwill is a rip off. The owner seems to have discovered Poshmark and wants to compete with their prices. What he doesn't understand or doesn't care about is that people donate to the Goodwill do so to help people who can't afford Macy's or Amazon or even Target. I am on a fixed income and can't afford their ten dollar a pair jeans. Struggling families sure can't buy enough clothes at the Goodwill to dress their children. Store employees that have been there over 2 years still haven't revieced a raise. And the warehouse that used to be reasonable cost almost as much as their retail. I stopped shopping at the warehouse because it stopped being worth the drive. Gone are the days of Fifty cents a pound clothes. Not to mention the filthy dressing room floors in the retail stores. I don't know why they pay anyone to sweep the dressing room floors at night. The poor Goodwill staff end up doing the work for the janitors. Here's an idea, let go of the night janitors, bump up the retail staff pay and bring down the cost of shopping at the Goodwill. I for one have marked them off my go to list for shopping AND donations. I'd rather give direct to the homeless shelter!!! Maybe if everyone shows the owner that we aren't paying high prices for fonated items intended to go to those in need, the owner might h t down his ridiculous prices. read more

Huge selection. I live in Osos and drive to A-town just to go here (well...and In N Out after). The only drawback is the shoe area. What a massive dung pile it is to comb through. I eventually found some Uggh boots (not the typical pull on ones but fancy AF ones that are $375 in the stores; I paid $30 here) as well as a pair of heels in grear shape. But the shoe area is so cramped and aggressively disorganized that it bummed me out. Other than that, no complaints. And the In N Out is always great. read more

When I asked you if I could see the top you were clearly about to put back on the rack and you told me you had to "put it out on the floor first", I shrugged it off cause sure, whatever, store policy, maybe (even though the attitude you gave me was not needed in stating that). Fast forward to the check out process, of course it had to be you ringing me up. All the other employees I've encountered here at this store have been so nice and so pleasant, but you. Anyway, here's why I'm taking the time to write a bad yelp review about you in particular: for you to incorrectly apply a 10% off student discount to my total (which should be something quite easy to do considering that is something Goodwill offers to students) AND charge me for an additional item I did not get (I had 11 items yet was charged for 12), seems all a little too calculated given our first initial encounter. I want to thank the guy working the door who apologized on her behalf.. seems like I got an apology from everybody else there but the one responsible. As for Casey and the manager who was working yesterday, I really appreciated your guys' efforts to resolve the problem your coworker created. We moved to Atascadero from SoCal about 3 years ago. In the past, we always donated our items to the Salvation Army after having a couple of bad experiences with the folks at Goodwill. Since taking up residence in Atascadero, my wife and I have donated items over a dozen times at this Goodwill store. Friendly, courteous customer service has been hit and miss. However, lately the service has become worse with each trip. On this last visit, the receiving clerk was about as lazy as they come. He clearly did not seem to be interested providing any form of customer service. When asked for help unloading, he just stood there and then made a big deal of getting a receipt when I asked for one. I am going to look for another outfit in the area that truly appreciates my donations. If I strike out, I will simply throw my items in the trash before donating anything else to Goodwill. It is easier and the people at Waste Management are always happy to take my unwanted items and they save me a trip into town. read more

Defective management. After 10-15 minutes of shopping in the store, my son and I were kicked out because my son, an 11-year-old with Autism, is unable to wear a mask or face covering (for COVID). After several email exchanges with regional management including a phone call, they failed to provide their Workplace Specific Plan and policy that exempts their business from the exemption clauses noted in the CDPH and ADA Guidelines for people with disabilities. Goodwill Industries is listed as a Servant Leadership Organization. "A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong." Unfortunately, Goodwill Industries does not train their employees to follow this Leadership Style. Today, a gentleman who has a disability went into the Atascadero Goodwill location to return a board game he purchased because it was missing a crucial piece. The employee was rude to the staff who accompanied and originally would not allow him to exchange nor return the game. After some pleading, the employee relented and allowed him to exchange the game but there wasn't a game that cost the same amount. As a result, the gentleman exhibited behaviors and left the store feeling defeated. This is not how you treat people. Goodwill receives donations from the public. They are not purchasing these items therefore they could've returned his money or given him store credit. This did not happen! read more

I've found some good stuff from this Goodwill and frequent it at least 1-2 times a week in hope of coming across some treasure :-) My only complaint is the prices they mark on used FREE stuff...its mostly pure profit, but seeing furniture, electronics, and power tools priced at almost retail bothers me a great deal. Even though they have their %50 color codes still hinders getting "used" stuff out the door more quickly. I am not sure how they determine prices on a lot of things but pricing needs to change for sure. This goodwill is absolutely trash. I understand it's a thrift store but if you see someone come in with someone who is clearly special needs trying to not even return but exchange a game that didn't even have the piece to play the game and deny them that exchange is so fucked off. And to be snobby and rude. I saw the no exchange no return sign but if something doesnt have all its parts and can't be used that person literally spent their only 3$ at your store on something that can't be used. Not only is that absolutely ridiculous but it's heartbreaking for them. That's the last of their money. They have special needs can't process why they can't get a different game or get their money back. And it creates problems for the caretaker! I bet you store workers were laughing it up when he was walking around the store shouting you just lost a customer. So dissatisfied with this store. Its so dirty!!! The rule of not being able to buy an item due to a tag not being on it,was disappointing. I took my three grandaughters into the Atascadero store this morning. I found some cups I wanted but no price on any of them. The eight year old went to ask the price and the person working came over and pretty much accused me of removing the sticker. I don't appreciate being yelled at and then followed around the store. Both donation centers in A Town suck as far as making donations. Staff are lazy and both locations must be I'll equipped to deal with LARGE donations but the last thing someone wants to do is spend 1 hour while you go through everything. Very unprofessional. Makes it kinda hard to donate when it becomes that much extra work. If all you want is clothes you should make it known. I am very unhappy and will never donate to goodwill again. read more
