I have written very few public reviews in my life for businesses, which should tell you something about my needing to share this. I had an absolutely horrible experience here with Dr. Peter Sepp on Sept 24th, 2025. I have never been talked to in such a condescending, belittling way before at a place of business. It is never excusable regardless of situation, but I've had rescue pets my entire life, worked at animal shelters, fostered extensively, my mum in on the board of animal rights foundations (I love animals so much that I've been a vegetarian for 30 years) and the way he questioned my ability to care for an animal was disgraceful. Even if I didn't have that experience and background, it would have been completely unprofessional and unacceptable to be this arrogant and dismissive.
We recently adopted our foster kitten we helped nurse back to health after he tested positive for panleuk at 3 weeks old- per the shelter's vet's recommendation, we were injecting saline fluids into his neck scruff twice daily, a vaccine in his neck scruff and multiple oral meds down his throat daily, probiotics in his food and fully syringe feeding through day and night (including 1am and 4am). The shelter said foster rarely agree to do this due to the commitment level, and they sadly often euthanize because of how contagious it is and that they don't have the staff to handle the care requirements either. It took almost a month of this for our kitty to miraculously overcome this hence we adopted him. Dr. Sepp questioned everything we did in that month- undermining the shelter's vet's recommendations and belittling the amount of effort we put in. He corrected me throughout our appointment on my pronunciation of things (I'm not a vet or in the medical field) and questioned whether we even really did sub q fluids (not sure why I would lie about that, also it's the proper course of actions for this diagnosis globally). It was as if he didn't believe we had done the work we had on our own, when there were records proving it and I had no reason to lie- I was simply giving him the background he asked for. He talked to me like I was a child, at one point telling me he wouldn't expect "someone like [me]" to understand vet records. But then I asked him about deworming from the vet records and he took the papers from me and said "well if you just look at it properly, it's right here, you just have to read it"- it was the medical compound name, which I wasn't familiar with which is why I was asking. I specifically made this appointment to ask a vet some questions about a kitten this age given his panleuk background around feeding, travel, going outdoors, etc. and he responded every time in such disbelief that I didn't already know XYZ. Saying things like "wow I can't believe you've never heard of ..." and "hmm that's surprising you're not familiar with..."
Almost most appalling was that I said I was going back to the shelter for the next round of vaccines, and he told me the shelter gave me wrong information on when it's safe to vaccine kittens and also made me feel like I wasn't a worthy pet owner for wanting to go to the low cost vaccine clinic hosted by the shelter. What he doesn't know is that I'm perfectly capable and willing to spend any amount of money on animals, but that I asked the shelter what would help them most- would it take away from low income pet owners seeking care so I should pay a vet clinic or would it help support these types of outreach initiatives they host in the community? They were the ones who told me to please attend as attendance is how they gain funding and support. Regardless of my financial situation, it was both none of his business and also outrageous that he would discourage someone who already owns a pet to seek proper medical care within their means just because he thinks it's cheap. A comment like that to someone without the same means as me would not result in them magically spending more at his clinic for a vaccine, but rather them not getting their pet vaccinated which is a lose-lose for everyone. I expect better from a vet- I have of course passed this information along to the shelter as they were the ones who recommended this chain of clinics.
Lastly, I'm not sure if he's new but he also said he had never heard of rattlesnake vaccines for dogs, which I'd said we got for our dog and was curious if it's available for cats- when you're a working vet in Colorado, especially in Golden, it's critical you're aware of the common medical practices in that general area. read more
