Located just about a minute or two by foot away from the more touristy places in the pedestrian zone, this American diner is somewhat of a hidden gem in Salzburg. Ask any local for the best burgers in town and you can be sure that Goodmans will be among the names you get. And it doesn't stop there.
Unlike your usual hipster places they don't just sell burgers, but actually have a full diner menu on offer. Starters, Soups, Sandwiches, Steaks, Salads - you name it.
While the place may be a bit hard to spot from the outside, it just screams American Diner on the inside. The owner has been collecting and decorating his store with authentic diner decorations from all over the US and there is even a real, working Wurlitzer music machine.
Speaking of the owner... his name is Marko Gutman (hence the diners name). I first read about his story in a local newspaper article and it was quite impressive. He basically scraped all of his money together and sold his car and bike to fulfill his lifelong dream of owning an American diner. He's very dedicated, a nice and interesting guy to chat with and you will usually meet him when you visit the place. But, enough with the blah blah, let's get to the good part: The food.
Like I mentioned earlier, they very likely serve the best Burgers in all of Salzburg. And I'm not just talking about the Salzburg the city. Their highlight of the (burger) menu - and also what I order most often - is the Goodmans Burger. Black Angus beef with all the works... including bacon, eggs and their great home made barbecue sauce. If you don't fancy that combo you can also "customize" your own beef or chicken burger. All burgers come with nice and crispy home made fries and are served on something that actually deserves to be called a burger bun btw.
Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to give the rest of the main courses a try yet, but I will soon, hopefully (the burgers are just too tempting).
What you must try however is their signature desert: The Donut Burger. It's a Donut served with Nutella, crispy cornflakes and fruits. Tastes as wonderful as it sounds weird when you first hear about it. Have it, just trust me!
Downsides? Well it's the City of Salzburg, so you can expect somewhat higher prices than in rural areas, but if you're used to your usual tourist places, prices are actually on the fair side. Regarding the Black Angus Burger: it's 19.90 Euros including fries. Last time we were there my girlfriend had a Beef Burger with blue cheese, avocado, tomato and onions (+ fries), which was easily as good at about half the price (~11 EUR). So choose wisely!
Bottom line... my experiences with Goodmans so far: A+ read more
