The first time I called, I asked how much would it be to remove several moles and skin tags and the receptionist said that I needed to be seen. The visit estimate was close enough, so no complaints here. I saw a dermatologist and we went over the things I needed removed. I asked if they'd charge me per mole/skin tag or if it would be included in the cost of the visit and her exact reply was that they would need to send the moles (not skin tags) to the lab for biopsy and she was not sure how much the lab would charge but it was something like $60 per sample (and I needed three or so). I asked if they charged the same per each and she said there should be a discount after the first one. She said she could do it right away or I could come next week. I asked if it would cost more to come next week (meaning if I would need to pay for another visit) and she said that I would not, so I decided to do it next week. I asked several times about the charges and the only thing the dermatologist and her assistant mentioned was the lab biopsy charge for the mole samples. In my mind, the total would be $175 for the first visit plus $60x3=$180, totaling under $400. Next time they charged me $150 for the visit, which I did not expect, but this could've been my fault, so not complaining here, either. After the procedure, the assistant and I went to the reception desk and she spent a few minutes typing something on a calculator. Then she gave me a $390 bill for the biopsy, which I assumed was for the lab biopsy. It was more than twice more than I had expected, so I asked the receptionist why, and she said that the biopsy was something like $120 per sample, and I was not really sure how many samples they had to send (I had a skin tag that was pretty big, so maybe I needed more than 3 to be sent), so I let it go, even though I was upset. I thought my deal with Berman was over, but a couple of weeks later, I got a $160 bill from the lab and I was totally puzzled since I assumed that my $390 payment covered the lab work. I called the lab and they told me that they never got anything from Berman. I called Berman and they finally told me the truth. The $390 charge was not for the lab biopsy work. It was for the removal procedure, which they also call biopsy. Yes, it cost about $120 to remove a mole (there is a formula that is applied to remove multiple moles/skin tags, so it's less per sample if you need to get a few of them done). In my case, I had three moles that needed to be sent to the lab and three or so skin tags. So, my total was $875: $175 first visit, $150 second visit, $390 procedure, and $160 lab. I do not know if this is how much places charge for the same kind of work, maybe it is, but my problem with Berman is that they tried very hard to not tell me how much the procedure would cost. And every time I asked (and I asked multiple times), I mentioned that I would be paying out of pocket, so it was not a question of how much insurance would cover. It should have been pretty simple. I called the Roseville office and talked to the billing representative, but it went nowhere. She claimed that I was told how much it would cost in advance, which was not true. I could not be told in advance because the assistant calculated the $390 amount in front of me right after the procedure when I was waiting to pay. I asked to escalate the issue and was told that a regional manager would call me, but nobody did. I checked online to see if I can file a complaint, but one of the few articles I found mentioned that the amount should be over $400 and the only amount I would dispute would be $390. I am wondering if the amount was intentional for that sole purpose, but I'd be speculating here. Anyway, if you are planning to get some skin work done and pay out of pocket (at Berman's or anywhere, but especially at Berman's), make sure you get a "good faith estimate" with the charges outlined in advance. I did not know about it and I did not realize I needed one because the responses I got made me think that I would only need to pay for the visit and the lab work. I can't say if this is a standard practice at Berman's, or if I am an unlucky one, but if not criminal, at the very least, it is not ethical, and one would expect medical professionals to be on the right side of ethics. P.S.  One more thing: when using an HSA account for mole removal, you need a letter of medical necessity (LMN) from a doctor. I got a notice from my HSA processor asking for LMN and I could not get one. I sent a message via Berman's web portal, called their billing, and left a voicemail for the dermatologist, but nobody called me back. I was able to carry $390 over the next year, but it showed the attitude.

I am a service professional too, and I can swear to that as can most of us. Here's my deal with this business...I went to this business after being given repeated shoddy product and service with a different hair replacement operator whom I had been with for sixteen years. Finally, enough was enough, so I reached out to this business for help. On very short notice and at no charge Nina cleaned up as best as possible the mess made by the other business. This woman's dedication to her craft and clients is beyond reproach. If there would be any suggestions for change at her studio I would recommend angel wings for the company logo, as that is what this place is all about.

I came into the studio with a cheap wig that would not fit my head, like everything else in my world, Nina fixed it. She tossed the wig aside and instead gifted me with long, beautiful human hair. The bullying stopped, and to this day my biggest insecurity and struggles in life have been hidden by Nina and her amazing work. I would never go anywhere else for my hair. She not only works with alopecia but with cancer patients, alopecia caused from old age, and even people who simply want longer, thicker hair. Nina is very good at her job, and loves it, but something that makes her stand out from the rest is her heart, her ability to care more about the reward of happy faces and fixing broken people she gets from her clients than the money she receives.
