Great grandma and grandpa are laid to rest here at Good Shepherd Cemetery. To begin with, The grounds are always well kept, and it's a great location to have a memorial, funeral, remembrance etc. our family would like to visit Huntington Beach, since Beach Boulevard isn't that far from it? We just drive down there, to continue the activities with quality time, with family and friends. The only suggestion I have is make sure you take a picture of the marker / location, because no matter how many times I've been here, I still can't seem to remember Specific locations. I can't express enough how much this place has changed since the new owners took over. We used to visit our loved ones and decorate and gather as a family. We would have a picnic and clean up after ourselves obviously. I have been placing these flags (see attached pix) at the grave markers of two of my Brother's in Arms for a number of years now. Both on Memorial Day/Week and the Marine Corps Birthday/Veteran's Day/Week. I ran into a problem with the Cemetery Management a year ago on Memorial day when two suits came up to us at Jerry's grave marker as his widow, Annie, and I were placing his flags in the ground. "Just one flag, and only the American Flag." they said. I told them that we do this just twice a year, honoring them on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day as they (I told them about George, also) both have earned these flags, as Viet Nam Combat Vets, one a decorated 101st Airborne Pathfinder and the other a Marine Corps Rescue Bird Door Gunner, and both Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Weapons Team Deputies. George gave his life protecting the people of LA County and earning that Blue Line Flag as he was ambushed and killed on the streets of Willowbrook in 1979. Jerry earned his Blue Line Flag as a Special Weapons Team Leader, rolling with his Team to handle Barricades and Hostage Rescue calls that Station Deputies are not equipped to handle. "We have rules!" was their answer to everything. I found out recently, that the Good Shepherd Cemetery people have been removing the flags I have placed next to George and Jerry's Grave Markers either the night I have placed them or the very next day, so they are not left up for the Memorial Day or Veteran's Day week. I checked back on George and Jerry on Wednesday, the 12th and the flags were gone. George's family had come by and placed flowers on his grave and a tiny American stick flag above his marker. They were denied the knowledge that others, his Team Brothers, still care and honor him every year. I find this unconscionable and disrespectful. the suits rational is they wish to prevent the incidence of elderly visitors from stumbling, falling and impaling themselves on the flags at a grave marker. Although, there are records of the elderly falling, 36 million a year nation wide with 30,000 deaths, there is not one incidence of someone impaling themselves on a stick flag. In multiple occasions they have disrespect my mothers plot. Either leaving lawn trimmings, removing the flower pot and replacing it with no water for the flowers and the most recent leaving the headstone with dead plants on it. There should be a rule not to have dogs at the good shepherd cemetery. It is a place to reflect, pray and visit your loved ones. I find it unnecessary to bring a dog or dogs there if it is on the grass or in a car. It is not the place to bring an animal. It is suppose to be peaceful when you go to the cemetery and not hear a stupid dog barking while you are visiting your loved one. I don't appreciate it and I bet others don't appreciate it either. This place is popular among the Asian community. My in-laws have purchased two ground plots for them for later use. My Husband's grandpa was buried here and his living wife have reserve a plot for her right next to him. Beautiful big place for expired love ones, or a place to put love ones to rest. I have the worst conversation with a rep named Lee. Here's the story, my father's photo marker was damaged by the good shepherd. I ask them to replace it but because my family purchase the gravemarker from elsewhere they say no. Called the company from which the grave marker was purchase and they say bc it was damage inside the cemetery they will not do anything. I am ashamed to called myself catholic after this. You should definitely avoid this place at all costs because they will scam you. PLEASE GO TO ANOTHER SPOT IF YOU WANT TO BURY A LOVED ONE. All my mother wanted was a nice spot to bury her mom and all we did was get scammed, literally a day before my mother's own birthday. She spoke with someone named Gustavo and initially, he was nice and very accomodating. He insisted that he wanted a nice spot for her under a tree away from the road since it is "noisy". However, since my mom is an old lady and does not speak English fluently she was easily taken advantage of. They made an agreement, which ended up being a huge misunderstanding and he switched up the spot that she originally paid for. The day of the service I asked if it was possible to switch the spot back to where we originally wanted, and a man named Chris was very understanding and accomodating. When I asked the question him and another worker who was passing by said "all the spots cost the same". However, an asian guy butted in and said actually it's going to be an extra $1,000 when we already paid said $1,000 and an additional fee to have the service on the weekend. At this point, my mother burst into tears and just wanted to have her mother buried because it's like obviously, you switched up the contract/agreement and now you want more money from us during these rough times? That's completely insane to me, especially coming from a funeral home. Where is the empathy at? Ironic since the name of this place is "Good Sheperd". We can't even do anything since the "binding of the contract" is all messed up and not what she agreed to at all. It just goes to show that you should really read the FINE PRINT and what you "pay for", even if the conversation seems to go well at face value. I'm trying to be optimistic and understanding, and we ended up just residing with that spot because obviously, we're not going to win in this case. But I just can't help but be frustrated for my mom because one more money wasted for no reason but the greed of others, and two it's her birthday tomorrow. Also, I couldn't help but notice a bunch of tire marks on other people's graves. I know that might be inevitable because of the garden work but I mean come on, at least have some respect for the dead and wipe it off? My father rests at this Catholic cemetery since January 2003. He had a heart attack while enjoying his once-daily Tanqueray gin martini. In a manner that all his sons respect & honor, he stood up, handed off his much-loved drink without spilling a drop, and moved on to what we believe is the ultimate destination. I came to check out this place for final preparations. The first thing I saw was a gardener in a heavy 4x vehicle, driving about 40 mph right over the delicate old tombstones in the section near beach Blvd. He showed absolutely no care whatsoever. It looked like he was having his fun. I also noticed that there were a lot of old standing stones that had purposely been knocked over. Many were very beautiful old stones of Civil War veterans and Japanese Americans. I contacted the office and talked to a Ms. Varela. I asked if the stones could ever be set upright again. She very curtly said no, it's a lawn maintenance issue. I told her that I thought it was very disrespectful to veterans and that I noticed that the standing stones of the rich gentry such as the Warners had not been knocked over to make maintenance easier, just common folk and Japanese Americans. I told her that these stones are historic and will deteriorate if left in this condition. She shrugged her shoulders and uttered an OH WELL. It seems that a certain type of person is drawn to this type of career and they appear to be cut from the same pattern of cloth. read more

I see nothing wrong with this cemetery and have had no problems. Every time I go, it is quiet, very peaceful and nice. The whole cemetery is kept very well manicured and it is always clean. There are certain times of the year and holidays where you are allowed to leave flowers for a loved one longer. That is really a nice touch. I have dealt with Lee in the office many times with my family and he has always been very professional and very nice. read more

A huge cemetery that, though it's near busy streets, is quiet and serene. It's a beautiful place to lay your loved ones. However, it is also a popular cemetary and so the parking along the access roads fills up & turns what should be a 2 lane street into about a 1 1/4 lane street. Because a cemetery is what it is - I can't give 5 stars. My father, mother in law & father in law are buried there, so I guess I can put in my 5 cents worth. I see many complaints about the grass not appearing to be mowed. Since I live very nearby, I can tell you that the grounds are mowed EVERY week. For people complaining about the height of the grass - let me say that grass grows faster or slower - depending on the season. Stands to reason, grass grows faster in the spring & early fall, therefore - the grounds may appear to be " unmown" a day or two before their scheduled mowing. My father rests here and it's a great Catholic cemetery. Simple and plain with no views or anything fancy. The grounds are well kept. They allow full decorations of grave sites on holidays so just imagine how many Xmas trees there are. However, there have been issues with thefts of flowers. WTF! In the saddest time of a love one passing, it is difficult to function 100%. However finding the right location to assist with final steps for a burial can be crucial. I have read so many negative reviews about this place but personally I need to disagree. The Good Shepherd, has been nothing but an amazing experience. The Coordinator Maricela was by far understanding, caring and professional. I believe anyone can help with burial services and last minute preparations but you don't find many people who can still be professional and empathetic to others. Her professionalism was through the roof and made sure we felt comfortable every step of the way. With heavy hearts she made the process easy. As I mentioned we have buried more than one love one at the, Good Shepherd, I would highly recommend them. Definitely request for Maricela. There facilities are maintain and well guarded. Bonus they are next to a Catholic Church. I am just one review, cant always agree with everyone on there comments but I have been through this hard time and I would say they are definitely a 5 STAR! read more

This place is TRASH!!! Do not place your loved ones here to rest...The disrespect and insensitivity from the 'security officer' was unbearable. I arrived to the cemetery with a huge 2 dozen bouquet of roses and balloons on my mothers bday, being that it was New Year's Day it took me longer than expected to find an open location to purchase the flowers. I literally arrived at 4:57pm, mind you there were still many people inside the cemetery. The 'security' already had a gate closed and wasn't letting anyone in, not even 5pm YET. I politely asked if I could just leave the flowers being that I traveled from far and it's my mothers bday!!!!! He obviously could see the huge arrangement. He with a very insensitive tone said, 'NO IS NO'. I explained that it wasn't even 5pm!!!!! He didn't care and said 'NO'. Now I understand that there are scheduled times etc but it wasn't even 5pm!!!! And to just look me in my watery eyes and coldly say NO was too much!!! These places are sacred and special, when we go visit a loved one we expect some empathy for the pain we are already barring. I would have understood if it was 5:01pm but it wasn't and for that i will be looking elsewhere for any future business. Good luck. read more

He was compassionate and professional in helping us choose plots for our parents and even came in on his day off when our Mother Theresa passed. My parents rests here. This place they bury so sloppy, two months ago, they buried someone next to my mom's grave, they don't level the soil surface of the area before add the sod. I complained many times about not level the soil surface before add sod, they keep said they'll level the soil later and redo lay the sod. A week later, I went back to visit my parents graves, nothing happen. The second weeks, they still not level the soil. And the third weeks, before I walk out my car, I saw the women went talked to the worker. She bribe the worker, he excepted the bribe and do her requested. Meanwhile, I look at my mom's grave, still sloppy, I'm so fed up with the office management here. They never do as they promised. read more

Good Shepard is a beautiful and peaceful place. I have several family members who are buried at this cemetery. With all the service my family have been through with the service members, the hospitality is great; I would recommend the cemetery to others. The only negative comment I would have to say about the cemetery is current hours available to members of family who are able to visit their loved ones. Overall, I rate the cemetery high. read more
