Two terrible situations. I called for a specialized test ordered by my doctor and gave them the full paperwork. This was around Dec. 23. They said they needed more info from my doctor. They would call him, and I should follow up in the new year. I called right after Jan. 1. They said they did not have my paperwork or any record I had even spoken to them. I went for a different test last month. I called and called for results. I left messages and they never got back to me. I finally got a call back from a patient advocate who was full of attitude and said they had no responsibility to give me the results and to check with my doctor. I asked if someone could've called me back to tell me that? And she said no, that wasn't their problem. Very nice. I'd rather go to a veterinarian than return to Good Sam. read more

This review is only for the trauma unit. After a car accident, a family member was rushed here via ambulance. They were originally going to bring to Valley hospital in Paramus, but decided at the last minute that they did not have a trauma unit so Good Sam would be the place to go. Throughout the 24 hour visit, the nurses were kind and responsive but definitely seemed pretty busy and it was hard to flag them down when we needed an extra blanket, for example. We had 3 to 4 different doctors checking in from various departments including internal medicine, on call Dr and Head of the Trauma unit which was great because we got a wide range of specialists. We appreciated their thoroughness and gentle manner when going through the details from the accident and how it impacted the body, results from xray and such. Not once did we feel rushed or that they genuinely didn't care. Unfortunately, it was a very busy night so although we had a room initially in the unit, they were not able to move us to a quieter place to rest overnight until late into the evening. They were patients laying in the hallways on beds to the lack of rooms. Not sure if it is always like this or it was just one of those days, but it made it pretty loud and I'm sure those patients were uncomfortable. Would 100% come back here if I needed to go to an ER or a trauma unit. read more

Currently admitted here, transferred from my small hometown hospital. If you love your family and friends don't bring them here to be admitted. Honestly so chaotic, never a quiet moment to close your eyes while you're trying to heal, the doctors, nurses, surgeons don't really care about you as a patient at all. You're just another paycheck. Clearly understaffed to the amount of people who are admitted, no one knows what's actually going on with a patient, and unless you're pushy and on their ass you'll most likely rarely get seen. I know once I get home I'm going to collapse because they won't listen to me. Sad to see how fall this place has fell. read more

Went to this hospital to see a doctor (Deborah M. Friedman, MD) in 2019 for a follow up for a heart problem. First I go there, and the nursing staff are taking my height like i am a kid- and to an adult that is just short, it's kind of insulting. Then i met with the doctor- part of my follow up was an echocardiogram, and a heart ultrasound. I was wearing a bralette, one with no wires. I asked the doctor nicely about wearing my bralette, she said no. So off it went. The sticky pads to the exam do kind of hurt when taken off, but it was an easy feat. Next the heart ultrasound in a cold room with machines. Not to mention more sensitive to the cold due to my thyroid problems. Technician was fine, and pleasant. Went well. Then got the follow up words from my doctor and again- not understanding why i couldn't wear a bralette- She got annoyed, but the technician said in a pleasant tone, oh next time you can wear a bralette. The doctor heard this and got all bent out of shape. What if someone wanted a little modesty? Especially given that a person may be cold due to their condition as well? Unfortunately if I am not respected, I have a less of a chance to follow up. read more

Went there last night the registrar Gabriela was very nice so was the triage nurse and doctor. The nurse Briana lacked bed side manners with my granddaughter. I say that not sure if it was because we are Hispanic or what. But there was a Caucasian child on a stretcher that she was extra sweet with. Checked up on him a few times. Mean while we would ask her questions and she seemed annoyed. Or took longer to attend to us. I believe as a nurse if you took on a job to care for the sick and vulnerable you should treat everyone the same. They need to do better. read more

SOS SOS SOS I could of died here. Left w long term damage from neglect. They lied about everything. From my experience, I have no doubt that the blood on their hands is thick! From people I speak to, this place gets sued right & left. Consider yourself warned! 1st time here, they failed to diagnose an easy diagnosis of pyelonephritis. The 2nd time here they didn't do a physical exam; didn't ask me about my symptoms; no lumbar puncture and no imaging when it was necessary. They didn't consult with who they should have as well. They ignored a lot of severe symptoms. I was crying to them that I had the worst headache in my life. I was falling in front of them and all they did was watch, and made sure someone was there catch me! The staff stood w arms crossed, smiling as if in amusement from the delirium of my infected brain. I could have died! There was severe medical neglect, false imprisonment, lies, improper restraints, & real abuse that went on here, for many people. I was a witness. It's unforgivable. Not only was care not provided for encephalitis, GSH locked me up in pysch. so I couldn't leave to get treatment on my own! There's been long term damage...My life was robbed. There was a reason GSH pysch unit got shut down. When I was locked up in pysch w encephalitis, I was a witness to many people being abused. When people politely told the dr. They didn't feel this med was right for them, they were threatened, told to shut up, told they weren't behaving, and were QUICKLY forced an injection when they were not hurting themselves or others BC THEY ATTEMPTED TO SPEAK! GSH QUICKLY forced inappropriate meds to disable patients, so they can hide THEIR lazy & neglectful care! There is no doubt in my mind that GSH created i.a.t.r.o.g.e.n.i.c p.y.s.c.h issues via meds in order to hide and "justify" neglectful and lazy care, by CREATING imbalances w inappropriate forced meds. This was followed w false diagnoses, nocebo effect, and more meds, topped w lies, projection, neglectful care, no baseline E.E.Gs etc. I needed to call 911 from the "hospital", but watching what was happening to others made it too risky! Anyone who attempted to help themselves was quickly destroyed! Majority of people there couldnt speak clearly, had stiff movements, I am still haunted by the screams of others when meds were forced 4 no reason. Abuse went on here KNOWINGLY & PURPOSELY! GSH, U promised 1st do no harm & enabled severe abuse; while being mandatory reporters! I question if people in pysch r ever able to get out, bc the abuse via wrong meds fuel imbalances & an inability to think clearly; they r no longer consider credible as the false dx & lies pile up, & they r given more meds; & the cycle perpetuates punting pts. to pysch is dangerous, there is potentially no way out when one is put on the wrong meds. GSH, there is no doubt in my mind that you suppressed people's souls; and robbed their minds and lives! Some people can no longer think clearly, express themselves, & act themselves. YOU allowed abuse! it happened PURPOSELY in your "hospital". GSH, what r u doing to free the people who's lives u stole? What r u doing to help the people u tortured, abused, neglected, & imprisoned?!?!? I can't thank the entire trauma staff for the excellent emergency care my husband received on Thanksgiving . After a fall off the roof that resulted in cracked ribs and collapsed lungs, my husband was treated quickly , kindly, professionally and thoroughly . His time on the surgical trauma floor was made bearable by the excellent nursing staff, attentive doctors and caring workers of every kind. My daughter went to emergency last night around 12pm 5/9/20, had a problem breathing. They put her in a room that looked like a jail cell. All it had in it was a bed. They never took her vitals , never checked anything! They wanted to take a chest xray without taking blood. She has a doctor who wants to admit her to the hospital, after last nights experience, shes afraid to admit herself for fear of dying alone! Especially with the lack of care the nurses gave her!! My daughter was born in Good Sam, and now at 27 shes afraid that she is going to die there! And by the way, all the other rooms were empty!! No other patients were in emergency last night. My mother spent the last 5 weeks at this hospital; while the Orthopedic Surgeon was very good and accommodating; much of the rest of the staff was it or miss. Undoubtedly, there are a lot of very good people on staff, there are also many who could not care any less than they did about the service they provide to patients. Granted, they are understaffed, and the whole Hospitalist system, where doctors essentially become hourly employees is a horror show - these doctors do not follow a patient thru their treatment, much less even know who they are, yet are expected to give care and treatment to them. My vet knows my dogs better than any hospitalist at Good Samaritan got to know my mother. She was recently transferred out to a nursing home for rehab, my sister found out this was happening AS IT WAS happening, no advance notice, the surgeon who handled my mother's surgery did not know, AND the place she went to was not even notified that she was coming. The second star is for those staff members who are compassionate and care about the people in the charge - it would be interesting to see some of the other ones endure the 'care' that they give to patients on daily basis, and hear how they like it themselves. read more

I do not like this hospital and hope to never go back. The care they gave my 94 yr old mother was sad and uncaring especially by a couple of the Doctors. We had to take my mother here in an emergency situation for severe pain she was experiencing. They basically told her that shes too old to be a candidate for the normal surgery that was the only option to fix what was wrong with her. They were only interested in pain medication and were ready to send her home. My mother is a tough cookie, and when I got there after driving 7 hours to get to her, she was in the bed shaking and in excruciating pain. She/we thought she was dying and we were scared for her because it took days to get answers as to what was wrong and what Dr was coming and when he could get test results to us. The way they ignore the elderly is disgusting. Not the Nursing staff, but the Doctors. They were the worst. Also, with each shift change came a new nurse or care partner. There was such a difference in care provided by the staff. I have to mention the only 3 that I saw that sincerely cared and treated my mother with absolute care and empathy. JT (James) (care-partner), he was awesome. He took great care of my mother and treated her as if she were his own mother. Also Jo, a very nice lady with an English accent, and Natalka who has the warmest personality and genuinely cares about the patients. The food that they send was just okay, not as good as the cafeteria. They did atleast have a wide selection of hot foods you could choose from. Spent an hour and a dozen phone calls (cut off numerous times) on the last call I was told my relative was not a patient (I personally brought her for surgery the day prior). If this business was based off of terrible customer service they would take the prize. The staff there is incredibly rude and unprofessional whoever hired them need to do a better job. The care for patients not just my wife is subpar. We waited for hours in the waiting room and once we entered the actual medical room, the doctor, the assistant and everyone involved showed little to no care for my wife or anyone else in the adjacent rooms. I'm an active duty service member, I have insurance for both my wife and myself, there is no reason why this place is not able to do their job and put in the work to go to the proper steps in making sure they file a claim properly for the medical bill instead of sending the bill directly to us making it seem that they absolutely want us to be paying out of pocket. This is a very bad hospital. Unless you happen to get a nurse or doctor with a good heart, you will be mistreated!! My husband lied in his bed for hours waiting for water or his pain meds. Staff seem hostile if you need something. Because my husband was in so much pain, he stated he wanted to die and they put him on suicide watch and removed his phone so he could not call me!! Outpatient physical therapy department is inexperienced and treats people with disabilities extremely disrespectfully. There are a few very talented therapist on staff, but it is almost impossible to schedule appointments and be in dialogue with direct therapist. read more

Good Sam has come a long way!!! I'm impressed at the recent improvements made. The ER is more organized and compartmentalized in a way that makes any ER visit more efficient. The staff is friendly too. I was there to visit a friend who just had a baby and of course I was hungry... (I have an appetite similar to someone with a tape worm) and I went into the Lafayette Cafe on the first floor. They have great food! Actually, the hospital food is good too. My friend was eating some gourmet lunch - well deserved after giving birth. The place is up to par and the nurses and doctors have a great bedside manner. Looking forward to lunch there tomorrow. About as HORRIBLE, dangerous and disrespectful to patients as a hospital could possibly be! If that weren't bad enough, patient records are routinely falsified by Good Samaritan personnel to cover up their wrongdoing, or retaliate against patients who rightfully complain! Be sure to avoid Good Samaritan's horribly run "home care" service, which exploits advanced-aged seniors, and treats relatives and family members like dirt. The woman who directs the home care/rehabilitation program, Lorraine, a retread mis-hire from competing Nyack Hospital, is extremely nasty to patients and families, and believes that elderly clients once signed up do not even have the right to make appointments! Instead, she feels that clients should accept drop-in therapists or double same-day bookings on a moment's notice, even if the elderly patient is sleeping at the time and was never even informed the night before of potential therapy session availability! Good Samaritan then perpetrates the fraud scheme of falsifying the record - and slandering the innocent patient - to make it appear to Medicare as though a set appointment for therapy was allegedly declined, when no such appointment even existed! This so-called director has no empathy, and views the elderly as nothing more than garbage. Dogs are given more respect at kennels! Of course, bad leadership leads to abusive and extremely uncaring therapists, aides and nurses, which is what we experienced first-hand. Services and therapy that were supposed to be made available were, in reality, never even offered! Good Samaritan's only concern is getting as much money as possible from Medicare, while creating grief and hardship for both the patient and their family. If I could leave negative stars I would. My mother was sent to the ER in late may by her doctor. That is where the nightmare began. Doctors who won't talk to you as the care giver or daughter. Nurses who have no idea what's going on. Keeping a patient only for a week who needed a blood transfusion and a biopsy. Then sending them to rehab before getting the results back. Only to have patient return and need another transfusion. I wouldn't even send my dogs there. Stay away from here. You have been warned. I am having her transferred to a different hospital. The care and concern for your well-being and comfort was professional and caring. The room I had was clean , spacious and really lovely. However, the food was a complete and total disgrace. I called the kitchen to ask for a MENUE etc. I was told by that department, "ALL PATIENTS in the hospital would be receiving the same MENUE and there would be NO choices what so ever". Yes, diabetics or special diets would be addressed by the dietician. The food was warm to cold, your breakfasts were varied. ALL other meals for three days were some type of chicken. Some trays I had nothing at all to drink or an empty cup and no lid. NO SYRUP FOR PANCAKES, NO salt & Pepper. Canned fruit was dessert. What I did receive was bland and tasteless. I was told, there had been a huge lay off and this was the result. Nutrition is a huge part of recovery. This is a complete disgrace. I was totally dumfounded by this. Recent Visit (Dec 2021) - I am very surprised at the negative reviews I have read. Last 2017, ny husband had a major surgery done here, and all the staff from the Concierge to the medical staff including the cafeteria staff were very pleasant. From that time, the only reason I had gone back was for visiting friends and family then CV hit. My husband had to undergo another surgery a week ago, and everyone was as attentive and helpful. One of the ladies by Admissions who was working at one of the cubicles noticed at one point that I was the only 1 left by the seating area. She approached me to make sure I was alright and even offered to get me some cookies. Eveyone made me feel at ease and was just so nice. read more

Really poor experience bringing my 6 month old child here after dealing with a week of unexplained fevers. The ER physician Dr. R refused to do any blood work or further testing despite medical pediatric literature recommending to do so in a child this age with fever greater than 5 days. Instead she told myself and my wife this is completely normal and began to share stories of her parenting woes carrying for her daughter thru fevers. She had no differential diagnosis and had no plan of action. As an ER if you're not comfortable taking in pediatric patients the ER staff physicians should exclaim that and recommend a divert to another hospital. Once discharged and contacting my child's pediatrician we were encouraged to go to another ER (Valley Hospital) due to their experienced ER pediatric team. My son was found to be coinfected with both Adenovirus and Enterovirus which explained the pyrexia & duration of illness. For those unaware there was an Adenovirus outbreak in NJ centered around a rehab facility in the end of 2018. This virus claimed the lives of 11 children in NJ and also killed an 18 year old women at the University of Maryland which also made mainstream news. Given the failed attempt to even pursue a diagnosis and just pump APAP and NSAIDs I will NEVER EVER step foot at Good Sam again. As an Infectious Disease clinician (yep I'm a doc) I'm amazed at the ER's lack of intellectual pursuit for fever of unknown origin in a 6 month old. Overall experience sad. Why 2 stars you may say? If you've managed to read this far the 2 stars are for the wonderful housekeeper staff Mr. Jorge who was working that day. He offered compassion and was more of a caregiver than the presiding ER team. read more

Well things started out well with my husband's open heart surgery. We were hoping he would be discharged yesterday but no. Then Sunday but no. Has to have an ultrasound. Order placed 8:09AM Sunday. Can't eat before ultrasound. Now is 2;00PM. Only one nurse working in CVICU and only one person working in ultrasound So when they tell you they are part of Westchester Medical Center they didn't even come close!!!! I woke up one morning with a extreme pain in my right side and went to good samaritan hospital in Suffern New York. I was treated quickly in the emergency room and after conducting numerous tests they told me I have pancreatitis. I was admitted and had to stay in the hospital for 9 days. Incredible story. This should guide you before you go to Good Sam with anything seriously wrong with you. Last Monday evening, my wife took me to the Emergency Room with a heart attack. We arrived at approximately 11:00PM. I did not see a cardiologist until approximately 5:00AM the next day. I underwent surgery at that time, and a heart artery had been 100% blocked. Good Sam had to call in a cardiologist If we had any idea, we would have driven 40 minutes further to Valley Hoapital. read more
